  1. Finally...adult supervision! When these types of topics get posted I'm always surprised on the number of Master Mariners we have on Cruise Critic.

    Pot meet kettle.

I'm always surprised at the massive number of people who are so quick to judge others and put words into their mouths about their comments and opinions that was never said. This whole forum is full of peoples comments, opinions and thoughts. Its what its here for.

You know where "the button" is at, use it.

  2. You might consider doing some research on how long and what distance is needed to "shut down" a ocean going vessel.

Using the thrusters to turn the ship would have created a wake even the Sheriff's RIB would struggle in.

it was 40 seconds from the time the video started to the time Magic was ontop of them. as slow as the Magic was traveling out of port and seeing a water rescue in progress ahead of them magic could have slowed down some or even reversed props and slowed it way down giving them more time. I bet that water rescue had been going on a good 30 or more seconds before the video started. "Oh look people in the water ahead and sheriffs boat doing a water rescue, i'll record it" by the time he/she thought this and got his/her video cam or cell phone out and started recording i bet 30 seconds had passed. And what i meant by shut it down was stop accelerating towards the sheriffs boat or exit/entrance to the port.

And no i know Magic cant use thrusters and not because of the wake but because of running aground in the narrow channel of the port entrance/exit.

But again. did the sheriff radio on the harbor channel of a water rescue in progress at the port entrance?

  3. Is the a URL or website for the tracker you speak of? thank you

http://www.marinetraffic.com Blue boats are cruise ships. hover your mouse over the blue ship icon on the map and it will show you the ship name, speed, how long ago that position was recorded and where its heading. Click on the ship icon and a small window will pop up and if you click on past track it will show you its previous track and if you hover your mouse over the little triangles along its path you will see the time it was there and its speed.

  4. Magic had plenty of time to shut it down too.. seeing a water rescue in progress ahead of you and kept going right towards the sheriffs boat was a bad move on the Magics captains part. But also the Sheriff could have gotten on the radio and told Magic to shut it down seeing them heading out of the port and told the captain a water rescue is in progress ahead, do not approach. Sheriffs conducting a water rescue will always have right of way. but its whether the sheriff announced on the radio a water rescue is in progress at the port entrance and magic continued at them then the captain of Magic will be in a lot of hot water.

  5. I'm not sure if this will help as I've never joined AARP but I know there are two different login places, one for the AARP site and another in the Rewards For Good part. Maybe if you don't try logging in to AARP and just go the the Rewards For Good page?

AH HA. found the login site for the rewards for good. Thank you. I did a search for aarp rewards for good login page. got logged in. to my surprise I log in and I have over 92,000 points. I only had 3700 last I remember. I showed my wife and she said "i've been logging in and doing the quizzes and earning points since our last cruise" LOL. ok good to go for next time. got a little over a year to go before our cruise. trying to pay off our balance with gifts cards cause free money is free money. 10% discount on my cruise basically. and also getting gift cards for our sail and sign account when we check in at the terminal.

  6. That strategy really won't do any good as it's the same place they are being sold from. So they are available and sold out at the same time.

I joined AARP. It was $15 A year and then sent a bunch of travel goodies. Plus the discounts overall is worth it to me. But you don't have to join to get the points. You should have been able to skip that screen and still get to the rewards page if you were logged in.

The cards are sold out on both sites now. I got 2 $100 cards around 4:30 This morning, so they were available for hours. Just odd ones.

Theres been numerous times before my last cruise that Verizon was sold out and I logged into AARP and they still had them and many times for a few hours after Verizon sold out.

I didnt see any skip or no thanks after I logged into AARP. It took me to a membership renewal page where it said I need to pay $12 to continue.

  7. SO because Verizon ones keep selling out so damn fast I logged into AARP website, havent logged in in quite a while since last cruise and trying to get the gift cards. but I logged in and they said I need to renew my membership for $12 When did AARP website start charging to be a member? I was logging in to start earning points so I can get cards from AARP when i miss them from Verizon.

  8. Carnival's timing sucks with this one. WHY would you plan a waterworks upgrade during prime "spring break" cruises? People pay a premium not only in cruise fare, but also in airfare to travel this time of year, not to mention it's "kid heavy" on ships during this time ... if they knew they were doing a water slide demo ... they should have done it another time of year. My Mom and my neice will be sailing on the 11th so they get the $200 OBC but it's still a disappointment for my neice.

    This........

There are a limited number of places you can take a 1000 foot ship and get it out of water, so they probably fill up fast and they have to take the slots when they can get them.

    And

Maritime Law states that every 5 years these big passenger cruise ships must go in for dry dock for routine maintenance. Freeport is the nearest dry dock yard thats capable of handling ships this large, They are always busy, the time slot they are offered is it. take it or be in violation of Maritime Laws.

  9. Are these 2 pictures both from Glory or just the first one? They look like the same room to me just the bottom one looks more finished to me. Look at the make shift pallet work bench in each. its the same. Windows just have different coverings on them which is easy with just some carpentry work

I couldn't get the previous photos to load so apologies if any of these are copies, but some really good shots here of the new waterworks area construction and also are they replacing the big screen on lido too??

Is this the same mystery inside room or a similar looking but different room?

    instant photo upload

  10. That looks like the same room as the first photo in the pictures at the top just a little more complete. But what room is it or was it and what room is it looking like it's turning out to be? I've never seen a Club 02 room or red frog pub.

These pictures are coming from someone or some where, ask them what's going on In these pictures, if their on that ship during dry dock then they should know something

  11. If you turn off data and put it airplane mode you'll never see a charge on your phone from verizon. Just turn WiFi back on and only WiFi. data roaming will still remain off and airplane mode will still remain on. Back last April when I was on Splendor, Verizon was testing the WiFi calling and texting option with some plans. I was on this plan and my phone was ALWAYS on airplane mode and data turned off BUT i could send and recieve Verizon text messages as long as my phone was logged into the ships WiFi plan that I purchased which was the value plan. I did not try making a phone call though through WiFi because back then Verizon DID still have a cruise ship plan on the ships towers and we had that plan so we never tested that but some people recently have said it does work through the ships WiFi plan but just like Facebook calling the sound is delayed by a couple seconds. Verizon now has WiFi texting and calling on all plans except the pay as you go plans. As long as you are connected to a WiFi plan and you turn on WiFi calling option on your phone you can make calls and texts on your phone. But if you already have WiFi plan on the ship just use the Facebook messenger if whom ever your wanting to reach has Facebook messenger too. Verizon told us that they no longer have a international plan through ships towers anymore. If you are not connected to a WiFi plan and make a phone call on your cell on the ship it will cost $2.99 a minute basically roaming charge. Last I knew calls from the phone in your stateroom are $1.99 a minute. no brainer. use the cheaper option.

And yes Verizon has that Travelpass international calling option. Bahamas is $10 access fee per device per day and then calls and texts use your domestic calling plan. if you have unlimited text and calling plan then thats what you have while in the bahamas. some have said there is a $20 activation charge for first time users though so check that. If you dont use your phone for texts or calls when at a port then there is no $10 fee for the travel pass for that day. Verizon said there is no need to turn off travel pass once you return home because there is no charge from the US anyway.

For us if the international plans don't change between now and April 2018 when we go on our next cruise we plan on just making use of the TravelPass option if we need. We already know texting works through Verizons WiFi texting option and also we can contact pretty much everyone in our family back home through Facebook. Everyone we know has Facebook and Facebook messenger. If there is an emergency and someone needs to call us they will FB call us or directly call our cell phone and if our phone is connected to ships WiFi then it should go through. or if we need to make a call then we can though our phone in the stateroom.

Probably overload by now on info but basically,,,,, Use that Verizon TravelPass option while in port at $10 access fee and then it uses your domestic plan after that. and if you purchase a WiFi plan on the ship then connect with friends and family back home through Facebook messenger. cheapest and easiest options and you'll be just fine. We had no issues sending and receiving pictures through Facebook messenger.
