I have made a Review video of this cruise with lots of pics and videos from the cruise if anyone is interested 🙂  Feel free to give a look.

Thank you for the video!  I'm excited to cruise again..  I've never cruised the Pacific.  Would you tell me how the sea conditions were?

    Thank you

This is helpful information.  The Cruise Planner Says that Beach Beds on South Beach have an attendant.  Do they get you drinks etc. from the bar?

Also is there a special lunch for Beach Beds?

Yes to the special lunch.  You can order it and choose what time you would like it, at the shore excursions desk once on board.  (Also select which bed you would like.  We had #13 last week and LOVED it).    There were 2 concierges who would call the tram for you, if you wanted to go shopping or for a massage, etc.  We had an attendant bring our lunch and only once the entire day did an attendant stop by and ask us if we'd like a drink.  The bar was very close, so it wasn't a big deal to me, but if I were going again, I'd ask the attendant to check in every 30 minutes or so.  I didn't see attendants stopping by other beach beds either, except for lunch deliveries.

  3. I was on that Mariner cruise.  We tendered over and back.  Once everyone was back on board the captain told us we were the last cruise to tender and he was going to do a test docking to check the pier and equipment.  Our concierge on Coco Cay told us that no ships would be visiting for a week while they finalized the pier and completed (and opened) phase 1 of the new construction areas.

  4. Haven't read through this entire thread, so my apologies if this has already been said.  I was on the Mariner 3/4-3/8.  We

tendered over and back to Coco Cay.  Once everyone was back on board, the captain told us that we were the last cruise to use the tenders and he would be conducting a practice docking to test the pier and equipment used to disembark passengers.

While I was on Coco Cay, the Beach bed concierge told us that no ships were going to be going to Coco Cay for a week while they finished the pier, completed and opened phase 1 of the new construction.  He said ships that were suppose to stop in Coco Cay were most likely going to Miami.

    Hope this helps.

  5. In Boston we did a hop on hop off bus and hit a number of attractions. My favorite was the Maparium So cool and free!

In Portland we took the excursion to Kennebunkport (and loved it) and in the afternoon we did a firetruck tour of the city. It was very good too.

In Bar Harbor, we did a horse drawn buggy tour (I think it seats 24) and we walked around. Planned to do stand up paddleboarding but it was cancelled due to the wind

In Halifax we did a Segway tour around the city. It was awesome! (but not easy until you get the hang of the hills)

St Johns we took a tour around the city and to the reversing rapids. I know some people really like it, but In all honesty, if we went there again, I'd probably stay on the ship.:eek:

    Have a great cruise!!

  6. We were on Anthem when we stopped at Labadee. There were only 3 of us, but we were in no hurry getting off the ship that morning. Took the water taxi from the dock to the dropoff near the water park, a short walk from Columbus Cove.. Had no trouble whatsoever getting loungers in the shade. I know Harmony is a larger ship, but honestly don't think you'd have any trouble doing the same for your group.

Agreed!! If you are going to spend time at the waterpark, definitely take the water taxi over and just get a lounger at Columbus Cove. Plenty of shady spots when I was there in May.

    Dreaming of going back!

  7. If you don't get a reservation, check in at times that are good for you. When my kids and I did this in May, people with reservations were getting turned away for health concerns and not having sneakers on and there were also cancellations and no shows. Others without reservations were able to get in.

If you want to do the escape room, book it as soon as you can get into the app. It fills up really fast. If you don't get into the escape room and want a similar experience, look for "A Royal Mystery" in your planner. It will be held one afternoon. I thought that was more fun than the escape room.

  8. We're on a family cruise on Harmony August 25th and my MIL is freaking out. Of course, she's freaking out about everything; Beryl, civil unrest in Haiti, Southwest after the decompression fatality, Puerto Rico recovering from Maria, people going overboard, sharks, you name it.

Holy Cow!! Who is she rooming with?

  9. Awesome! Thanks! Enjoy your cruise! :)

We went on The Wonders of San Juan excursion and really enjoyed it. We were put on a mini bus (about 30 of us), with a driver and a tour guide. Our tour guide, Hector, was very informative and interesting. We made 4 or 5 stops where we would get out for about 20 minutes each. The first was not far from the pier, at a beautiful seaside park; then we stopped at the capitol building; a seaside cemetary near a fort; and further out of town to an african village, near the spot that Roberto Clemente's plane went down. We stopped at a road side stand for a taste of the local flavor before heading back.

I was traveling with my 2 kids in their early 20's, so they enjoyed learning about the culture and visiting the sites. I'm not sure it would have been so enjoyable with young children. They might not have gotten much out of it.

We arrived back at the pier about 40 minutes late, which didn't allow much time for shopping. We had just enough time to run to a couple of stores that were close to the pier.

I hope you enjoy the excursion and have a great cruise.

  10. Interesting, every one of those was from a cruise May 2018.

I was on the Anthem in May 2018 (Bermuda and Eastern Caribbean) and it was amazing!! I hope to have my full review completed this weekend, but for now, suffice to say, I LOVED pretty much everything about it! (and I, too, worried I'd miss the Promenades and the 3 story beautiful dining room). I cruised on the Indy in Dec and was a bit underwhelmed. Some things were just off (although I'd take an "off" day on a cruise to pretty much any other day on land). I was concerned it was a decline in service and attention to detail issue, fleetwide. But the Anthem exceeded my expectations. Been trying to figure out when I can get back on her, since I returned home.

    Book the Anthem and enjoy!!

  11. Thanks. I downloaded the IQ app. Since I can't do anything with it here, am I to assume that I can only use it on board the ship or at the boarding terminal?

Yes. You can connect to it once you are on board, even if you haven't purchased an internet package. A lot of people complain about the IQ app, but I liked it. You can make (or change) reservations; see the cruise compass; check the menu for the main dining room; view your reservations/activities in one spot, etc.

  12. Any recent Anthem cruisers who can give us an update on the Escape Room on Anthem? When can you sign up? In the cruise planner or once you get on board?

I was on last month and did the escape room. Absolutely download the app and sign up as soon as it lets you. We signed up at 2 pm on embarkation day and there was only one time slot available. We signed up, but minutes later, it was all filled. (and there weren't that many kids on our sailing. I think they said in the 300's).

When we went to check in, there were quite a few people waiting to see if there were any no shows and therefore spots opened up.

I felt bad for the crew member running it. People were very aggressive about trying to get a spot.

It was fun, but not at all like the pictures I have seen of the new escape rooms on some of the other ships.

There is also an event in 270 called A Royal Mystery. They describe it as an escape room without walls. That was a lot of fun also. It was only offered one afternoon, on our 9 night cruise, so look for it, if its something you think you'd like to do.

Have fun & enjoy the Anthem. I fell in love with that ship!!

  13. My daughter and I both have a lot of hair so we use to run into the same issues getting ready. We bring our own blow dryer (its small but really powerful); Except for my side bangs,. I don't use a brush to smooth it as it dries. I flip my head over and dry from the roots. This saves me so much time and gives it extra hold in the humidity. Once its dry, I hit it with a hot curling iron. My curls stay in all night and barely need a touch up in the morning. I can go from towel to styled in 20 minutes this way. Hope it helps.

  14. OACAggie, thanks for the feedback. Good tip about iFly and videos. And great to hear that you can get on more than once. I can see my kids loving this.

In terms of Disney...we're just like you. And even for the March we booked the Anthem, I'm still debating between keeping the cruise or just going to WDW (or even mixing it with shorter Mariner cruise). Our itinerary has us in Orlando form 12pm to 9pm. Not sure the excursion bus time (as we'd just take the bus rather than renting), so our time would be quite short...but how do we not go to Disney when we are right there? Question...were you able to book FastPasses...or does this not work for the one day trip ? When we went before, we pre-booked as we stayed onsite for 6 nights. I'm assumign for a cruise, you buy your ticket at the gate so am guessing FP+ doesn't work.

One thing to keep in mind when planning your stop in Disney is the timing/crowd size. We sailed from NJ to Port Canaveral during Easter week, a few years back and by the time we docked at 11:30 am, Disney was so crowded that they weren't admitting anyone else in the Magic Kingdom. We were planning to go to Epcot, so it didn't affect us, but a number of people were disappointed that they couldn't get into the Magic Kingdom.

  15. We just sailed on a 9 nighter, on the Anthem. My daughter is a vegetarian and pre cruise, I was concerned if there would be enough options that she would eat. She did great and loved everything. Some of the things she chose were:

Baked Polenta and Feta Cheese with Grilled vegetables

    Moroccan couscous vegetable casserole

    Wild mushroom risotto

    Eggplant parmigiana

    Butternut squash risotto

    Tagliatelle

    Vegetable Korma

Our waiter also told her that if she didn't see something she would like, they would make her something else.
