  1. 14 of us prepaid our tips for $82.79 Cdn as opposed to $84 US. In this case it pays to not use the onboard credit and pay those in Cdn if that rate is still available. For everything else on board use your prepaid obc to buy on board in US$.

We have prepaid our tips for the last 7 cruises booked and they have all worked out cheaper to pre pay in CDN than to pay onboard in US$$. - Even when the dollar was colser to par. I don't know why, they just were.

Thanks to the wise advice on this thread, we also recently prepaid our gratuities for our upcoming Oasis cruise and were charged $82.79 CDN per person. I am really grateful to everyone for all of the info on here. We have saved a fair bit on the exchange rate.

  2. I notice there are quite a few commenters from Tampa and the surrounding area (me too, hi!). Is that there anything we can do to help?

Eight phone lines for 2,500 passengers has to be a challenge. I'd be happy to offer my email address if anyone wants contact me and have me make phone calls to hotels, family, etc on their behalf.

Wow, that is incredibly nice of you. I don't need your help, I'm at home just reading along, but want to say how very kind of you.

  3. Yes you can. Also, they are currently offering Canadian dollars at BETTER than par. It is actually cheaper to prepay in Canadian dollars than US dollars. Take advantage of this while you can!

I did this today - gratuities for a week are $84 pp US$, today we paid $82.79 Cdn. It is final payment day for us and we had the gratuities added, no problem. I am very grateful to the op and everyone who has posted on here. I never would have thought to buy obc and prepay gratuities. Saved a nice little bit of cash :)

  4. Interesting - this was not discussed with me when I was on the phone.

All mine said was it had to be booked in CAN funds, or else the dollar is exchanged at the going rate, plus whatever your credit charges for converting -

Our booking is in Cdn funds. Did you call CA or Gifts and Gear? Wonder if you call CA if you would get a different answer.

  5. Hi: I just called CA and purchased obc $400 US for $440 CDN. Thank you so much for the suggestion.

My apologies if this has already been said on here but wanted to pass this along in case -I asked about the exchange rate and the agent said the exchange rate for pre-cruise purchases is based on when the sailing was first available in the system. For example our Oasis sailing was first available for booking a year ago so the exchange rate is based on the rate at that time which is why we only paid 10%. However once on board the exchange will be charged at the going rate.

  6. You are driving to KW just for the afternoon? Long drive!!! Approx. 4 hours in each direction!

Yes we know it will be a long drive, but that does not bother us. We love road trips almost as much as we love cruising :)

  7. Hi: We plan to drive down to Key West after we disembark Oasis in May. We will be there for the day and hope to park somewhere and just stroll the town. Can anyone tell me a good place to park?

Also -We are thinking of starting our walk at the Southernmost point and wandering up Duval and back Whitehead as our main route. Does that sound doable? We will have a 4 year old with us.

    Thanks for your help.

  8. Your choice and we have to respect that. But on Hilton Family MVP you can save SO much money when booking the Hilton brand properties and you're still booking direct.

Thank you so much for this information. I looked up the mvp program, gave Hilton a call and saved $30 off of my existing reservation AAA rate. Awesome.
