  1. Deck 3 ... you can't go from front of ship to back because of dining rooms. Set dining at 6 or 8pm is in rear dining. Anytime dining is in front dining room.

All of the production shows are great. Chris the flying scotsman is scheduled to be back as cruise director at that time. He has a one man show in addition to other events. He is the best cruise director we've ever had!

  2. I was on the debarking cruise. My cabin was just above the replacement gangway. We were told the regular gangway broke during some high winds the night before. The ship was notified around 3 in the morning, so all types of rearrangements had to be made. The substitute gangway is only 1 person wide and all of the folks leaving with their luggage and those in wheelchairs needed to have help going down this steep gangway on level 1. Normally debark in New Orleans starts around 6:30. It didn't start til almost 8. We were on Deck 2 and put our luggage out the night before. We weren't called until 10AM, and we were still in our cabin since we couldn't get to a public place to wait. Too many people in the hallways and stairwells for us to even attempt to get an elevator.

What the OP didn't know is that this trip was total full with all of the kids out for mardi gras. There were probably 4000 people who needed to go single file down that ramp.

  3. If you are diamond, you go wait in a specific area. As soon as self debark is done, you are the first group off of the ship. You will then meet with your luggage and go thru customs before any deck is announced.

The last time in July out of New Orleans, we were in our car by 8AM

  4. We were on the Dream last week. We weren't late for any port, nor did we leave early from any port. Our itinerary was Key West, Freeport and Nassau. In Freeport, we were scheduled to leave at 4 or 5, but didn't leave until after 7 or 8 (ship's time). They admitted it was due to some maintenance being performed. Freeport is one of the best places for them to do maintenance or emergency repairs since that is where drydocks usually happen and they have the personnel in this port that normally work on the repairs. Whatever this maintenance was, it didn't affect our cruise at all!

  5. We turned Platinum on the first leg of our B2B cruise in Feb. It was great! We received all of the perks from the first day, including getting on early and being allowed to go to our room right away. You should get all of the perks as well.

When we stayed on the ship for the 2nd leg of our journey, customs came to us, we showed our passports and were treated to a glass of champagne and a photo of those who were doing the 2nd leg. It was nice to have the ship to ourselves for a few minutes.

  6. I don't know where Greg will perform on the Conquest. On the Splendor, he was usually anywhere from 6PM til Midnight (with many breaks), and he could be found at the Atrium stage in front of the elevators. On the Dream, he performed from the Atrium stairs, or in a lounge. On the last sea day for both, he may be found at the Lido Pool area. It all depends on the CD.

I don't think he'll find out days, times and places until he gets on the Conquest.

  7. Will all of the oil rigs in the area of the mouth of the Mississippi River, your normal cell service will work. That means you will have your normal service from the Port of New Orleans until around midnight on the day you go out. Somewhere around midnight or 2AM on the day of return, you will start getting service again. I've never been charged anything by Carnival for using my cell at these times.

  8. It's a shame NCL doesn't upgrade when you are entering the next level on a cruise. Carnival does this - as soon as you are paid up for the cruise (the 90 day point), your boarding pass states the next leve and you get all the perks of that next level on the cruise that you earn it!

With 2 cruises booked next year, we will become platinum, Hubby after the first one, and I will be after the 2nd one!:D

  9. I had that happen a couple of years ago. I lost my card while in port. When I got to the gate, I told the guard what happened. I showed him my driver's license. He escorted me to the ship check-in/x-ray. He told the check-in security. The ship security verified my identify. I was told to go to the pursers desk to get another card. The only slight hang-up was that I had to also get a new card for my hubby. Everyone in the room needed a new card.

Not a big deal. The whole thing took about 10 minutes. Better than trying to retrace my steps in a foreign port!

  10. I've heard lots of people stay at the Drury on Poydras St. It's about a mile from the cruise terminal. I haven't done it, but have read lots of folks do it. They stay at least one night at the Drury and they can leave the car in the Drury parking lot for free during their cruise. I've also heard they have a shuttle to the terminal.

    Good Luck!

I work in One Shell Square (you know, the tallest building in New Orleans).

I look forward to your reviews. They are always great!

We were booked on the Sunshine in April, but then they changed ships on us and we will be on the Dream instead, same week and itenerary. Oh, well. Maybe the financial gods will shine and we can get on the Sunshine before it leaves New Orleans.
