  1. Sounds like a lovely area.  The evening stroll sounds great, we may try that.  To Princeton123211-if we knew anything about Brooklyn we would probably do that, but we are an older couple and not too adventurous  😏.  Thanks though,  I appreciate your responses.

  2. Thanks for all the info.  We really just need a place for the night.  Since we have been to NYC before and did lots of sightseeing I think we would just stay in our hotel.  Our flight doesn't arrive until early evening before our cruise.  Any thoughts on the Marco LaGuardia hotel?  Thank you again!!

  3. Thanks.  I think we are leaving from Red Hook Cruise Terminal in Brooklyn.  What is the other hotel you referred to?  Do not want to deal with much after we land at LGA.  Would like to just get shuttle to hotel, eat dinner.

  4. Silly me, wrong info. We are flying into LHR the day before our cruise. Wanted to stay somewhere close to the airport and take the Princess shuttle the next morning. We want to stay somewhere maybe in Slough where we could walk around (since it will be mid morning when our plane arrives.) Not a lot of time to go into central London and trying to make things easy. Been to London many times so we don't feel the need to go there for one night.

    Thanks!!

  5. I wasn't too impressed on our recent Royal cruise MDR embarkation lunch. The choices were limited: Trout, Fettucine Alfredo or Chateaubriand. One or two dessert choices. Yes it was nice to be waited on but next time I'll go to the Trident Grill. I love their burgers and fries.

  6. We just sailed on the Royal and had R703. It was just down from the elevators and we could take the elevator directly down to deck 6 and the dining room. The Laundromat was just down the hall a few cabins. I didn't use it except for ironing a few items as we had the free laundry elite benefit.

You can't go wrong with this cabin. It was a covered balcony near the back of the ship. Great room steward also.

  7. I forgot to mention that we had to have a passenger airlifted to a hospital in England while we were at sea between the Azores and England. They closed the upper decks and we couldn't go to our cabin for an hour or so in the evening as they were conducting the airlift. We heard the next day that the person made it to the hospital and was scheduled for surgery. We didn't hear anything else. It seemed to go pretty smoothly and was handled efficiently.

  8. We just returned from two wonderful cruises. First was a 7 day Caribbean then we stayed on the ship and did a 14 day trans-Atlantic ending up in Southampton. We had an inside on the first 7 days then we were upgraded to a balcony on Riviera deck.

We loved both cabins-first was C328 (sideways cabin) then R703 for the 14 days. We thought the balcony was just fine. Wonderful room stewards!

The ship is big but once we got used to it we had no problems getting around. It only felt crowded on the 6 sea days and the weather was not to favorable to sit outside. So lots of people were hanging out in the Piazza taking dance lessons, etc. It seemed a little noisy in there when lots of people just wanted to relax. There were other venues that could have held these dance lessons, etc. but they seemed to cram most of them in the small Piazza area.

We enjoyed Princess Cays and St. Thomas and St. Martin. Did a shore excursion on St. Thomas riding around on an open air bus and seeing the sights.

Our first stop on the 14 day trans-Atlantic was the Azores, then Cobh, Ireland; Rotterdam, Netherlands; Zeebrugge, Belguim. We did a private tour in Cobh which was wonderful. Cruise shore excursions in Rotterdam (Keukenhof Gardens) and Zeebrugge (Ghent canal cruise). Didn't really enjoy the canal cruise as it was hard to hear and understand the boat guide. Not his fault but I don't think I'd do that tour again or recommend it. Just not enough time to enjoy the area.

We enjoyed all our meals. I wasn't overly impressed with Alfredo's food. The dining room meals were pretty good and Horizon Court good with lots to choose from. International Café was good also. Enjoyed their salads. We had a coffee card so we would go down every morning and have a pastry and coffee for breakfast. Went to the Crown Grill one night. Awesome!! Of course, we had to have a hamburger or two at the outside grill.

Lots of good movies shown inside and on MUTS. Loved the TV offerings-lots of movies that you can pause and go back and finish later. Also showed the weather for the upcoming ports and ship location. We also enjoyed the enrichment lectures by Ian Black. Production shows were good as well as 3 or 4 comedians and a wonderful instrumentalist-Oli (I forget his last name).

We had some fun in the casino-lots of new machines and won a little bit here and there. The first 7 day cruise was a casino cruise and it was not easy to find a machine to play it was so busy. The last 14 days was much easier to find a fun machine to play.

Disembarkation went smoothly. Off the ship by 8:30 am with our private car driver arriving soon after. Stayed one night by Gatwick airport then one night in Keflavik, Iceland. That was so much fun. What a fascinating place.

If you have any questions please let me know and I'll try to answer. We really don't do too much on the ship. Mainly, sleep in, read books, play games, go to movies and lectures, casino playing. Didn 't do any bingo-did that so many times when we first were cruising that it doesn't really interest us. We've done the galley tours and lots of other offerings so we just like to laze around.
