Buy the one person two device package. It costs less and the only difference is you will share the same login ID and password.

The only advantage to people having their own separate one-device account has to do with technicalities where each person is using more than one device and switching back and forth, it's easier to switch devices without accidentally kicking someone else off if each is on their own account.

    Got it.  Thanks.

  2. We are sailing on the Wonder of the Seas and I have a question.

The Surf + Stream package appears to be sold a couple different ways, per person or per device.  We need to use two devices at once, it's cheaper for one person to have two devices as apposed to two people having one device.  What am I missing?  Why would anyone say two people have one device over one person having two devices which is cheaper?

    Thanks.

  3. I just learned that the price of things on the app is not the same as the website.

I was checking the app every day because it's easier where it's 15% off.

For another reason I went to the website and apparently it's national margherita day and 25% off for today only! (buy one get one 50% off)

So I very quickly locked that in.

Gotta check the website not the app for deals I guess.

  4. My cruise on the Wonder is several months away, I don't prefer to pre-purchase anything this far out.  However, the deluxe beverage package was 20% off and I missed it.  It's 15% off now.

What are the odds the 20% discount is coming back?  Or a discount higher than 20% shows up?  Or do I need to jump on the 15% discount right now?

    Thanks.

  5. If your phone has 4G service that's supported by your plan, along with a hostspot feature then yes, you can create a hotspot. Your phone would need 4G service. I took a Hawaii cruise and my phone did have service most of the time even while cruising. They don't always cruise that far away from land.

That unlimited plan does not work an a ship. You can't hot spot from a phone using WiFI. You can share a one device package across as many devices as you want as long as only one device is logged in at a time.

If you are asking if you can take the 1 device plan and make a hotspot out of that, technically the answer is yes but probably not worth the hassle. 1 device is really 1 device logged in at a time. You can log out of one device and into any other device as long as they are not logged in simultaneously.

  6. I guess I don't understand why this is sad. If someone wants to spend time on a device, why is that sad or not okay?

There have been lots of times where nothing in the compass looks appealing to me, and reading news of all different kinds is relaxing to me. The easiest way for me to do that is looking at a screen, cell phone, laptop etc.

Sometimes I like to do that at one of the bars, I usually buy the alcohol package.

My definition of vacation is someone cooking my food and cleaning up after me. Past that, it might or might not include technology for all kinds of various reasons and situations. I like that.

Sadly...this is the truth. Gone are the days when people would actually put their phones in their safe in the cabin after sail away. Even longer gone are the days when we didn't have cell phones on a cruise. I actually look forward to being completely disconnected on our cruises.

On our Harmony cruise in November, I did get the internet package and posted daily as a live review...mainly because of the newness of the ship. But I felt like I missed out on a lot of things.

  7. The current deal on my cruise is $54/day deluxe package + VOOM streaming 1 device. I'm very happy with the promo.

Watch close RCL ran a special in January for deluxe plus voom for only $12 more than for deluxe drink package only. It only lasted 4 or 5 hours so you had to be on line at the right time to catch it.
  8. I bought the internet streaming package at 30% off for $80-something dollars, then bought the deluxe drink package at $55/day.

The new deal is $54/day for the deluxe drink package and the same streaming internet I bought at 30% off.

    Just saved about $104.

    It pays to keep checking.

  9. $8 gratuity included... if the menu is as legit as they imply, for food cooked for you, this is an improvement.

I'd rather pay $8 for a great product than $4 for a lousy one. (we'd usually tip about $4)

They shouldn't have had a lousy product before, but they did. What's done is done.

The new convenience fee will be charged per order and will include any food items selected at the time of placing the order. Gratuity is included in the service fee.

  10. While I didn't take into account the discounts for multiple visits, with such a limited menu (unless you pay even more) I also didn't count on the upsells. Assuming you are going 8 nights, you aren't going to always be picking from the very limited "free" selection.

Your calculation is off. You would need to factor the additional discounts for multiple visits and possibly the child rate as well. Safe journey
  11. So, if you have a fairly standard family of 4, and we all did what you did, ate at chops 8 times that would come out to $1,248.....

    What a rip.

For goodness sake all you tight wads whining about $35 dollar meals. You are on a holiday, enjoy it. On a 14 night cruise we ate at the restaurants 8 times. Loved it. Enjoyed the change of scenery. Food great. It's nice to get dressed up and have an intimate dinner, rather than with the hoards of people at the Windjammer. Spend your money, you can't take it with you.
  12. This is why I love Southwest and their miles program. With Southwest, you can cancel a flight up to 10 minutes before departure and get all your miles back.

We booked a 9:15am flight out of FLL, also after the Oasis. But, we also booked a 6:15pm flight. We are going to do our best to make the 9:15am, but if that doesn't happen we'll wait for the 6:15pm and incur no penalty by canceling the 9:15am.

I'm not sure what their cash policies are, maybe they just refund for credit and not cash though. They have no change fees, but I'm not rolling the dice and assuming the flight won't be full last minute, we just book both.

This way, we will probably make the 9:15am flight and not have to worry about it the whole time, because our worst case scenario is as good as we could have done anyway.

  13. Nice! Congrats on the anniversary!

We were on the same sailing as OP and I agree with your comments.

I'm from Texas and love Tex-Mex, so I was really surprised at how good the food was at Sabor's. I thought the comedians were the best. I got mixed up on my reservation for the comedy show, but did standby one night and easily got in. Got there about 30 minutes early. I thought some of the healthy lunches and breakfast in the Solarium were really good. I had a Cajun baked fish that I couldn't stop eating one day.

For the most part, I thought the Windjammer was bad and only went there a few times, but did have a couple dishes that were decent. I thought Giovanni's was just ok and Chops was good. Never felt too crowded, except after muster drill when you were trying to get an elevator for sail away.

I really thought it was a great cruise with plenty to do. The wife and I also celebrated our 30th anniversary on Day 3.

Yah, I didn't like Sabor, I LOVED Sabor :-) . Don't make the same mistake I did, don't wait, hit it ASAP. That way you can go as many times as you want.

Don't feel like you have to even blow an entire meal there. You can sit down, and for $3 (or was it $4) split the table side guac (get it spicy), and an order some of the those chicken things wrapped in jalapenos and bacon. Or, the cheese quesadilla. I wanted to try the chicken quesadilla, but the cheese was so good, I couldn't not get it. It's got three cheeses, but combine that with the fresh made tortilla and there is some kind of pepper in there that's just money, and you have an amazing thing.

I think I'm in the same boat as you regarding Cats. I really want to enjoy it, but there's just something about it. I was honestly very surprised when they announced it would be coming to Oasis, as it really doesn't fit.

I 100% agree with you regarding the MDR concept being tired. I know there a lot of hesitant people who are resisting the change, however it's true. There's really no way to put it other than saying its just a tired, outdated concept that needs to go away. I think that once they make the change and get into a nice flow, it will end up working to everyone's favor.

Glad you liked Sabor! I'm hearing great things about it and can't wait to try it next year!

    Thanks for your review!

  14. I was on the Allure about a year and a half ago, and while you can debate good/bad all day, I was surprised to see how many of the dishes were different.

Same dishes and descriptions, but how they were prepared, quality (not saying good or bad), presentation etc.

Maybe they switched food vendors or something, but I was expecting the same, and it wasn't.

Again, not good or bad, just something I noticed.

Yes, agreed on that point as well...

Overall I thought the food quality was very lacking and I remember the food being wonderful on the Allure...

I really hope they can get their act together!

  15. They switch out, not all are available at all times. The three cookies I remember are a chocolate cookie that was soft with chocolate in it. The coconut ranger cookies made appearances. Also, there was a very good one, it had white chocolate and cranberry, highly recommended.

The chocolate cookie was the softest, the cranberry one I would call soft enough, didn't eat the coconut one, I dislike coconut.

There might have been more, but those are the ones I noticed.

Thanks for the review OP. Has Oasis gotten any of the delicious cookies people have been reporting are on Quantum, or are the same hard ones as always at Cafe Promenade?
  16. For me, it was more an issue of you could tell it was sitting for a while. Like how the potatoes gets the skin on them after a while? Or the outside of the food was warmer than the inside, like it was sitting in a warmer or something.

I was on the week after you...

    COMPLETELY AGREE with your review.

Sabor was delicious!! and yes, those waffles in the MDR were a disgrace!

Ok, so I need to ask, was 95% of all your food ice cold like mine was?!?!

  17. I really like informal reviews, so I wanted to take a stab at it. I was on the 11-1-14 Oasis of the Seas sailing. It was the first 7 day cruise to Nassau, St. Martin, and St Thomas after dry dock. While some of these thoughts are positive and some negative, overall the cruise was a very good one, I think the Oasis and the Allure are great ships and an excellent value.

-I hate that I hated Cats, I really wanted to like it. They did such a good job performing, the singing, everything, but what a terrible choice for a ship that spends most of it's time in the Caribbean.

-Room steward did a really good job. I talked to him much less than I did in other cruises, but the room was always clean.

-We had my time dining. The main dining room concept is so tired. We went with another couple, and tables for 4 were fine. Tables for 2 however were right up on other 2 person tables. Not much of a point asking for a 2 person table, you're basically sitting with others. I would say the food is fine overall, but the "formality" of it all just didn't fit with the atmosphere, overall food quality, and the way people were dressed etc. I'm very glad the ship and others are moving toward a more casual atmosphere.

-Sabor was AWESOME. It was actually better than awesome, it was very very awesome. Everything we had was just a home run, except for the empanadas, but I think it was just me, most people at our table loved them. Casual, cheap, delicious, great service, excellent spicy margarita... Guac with habanero was excellent, tortillas excellent.. just excellent.

-Ice show was really good, but I think they could do a bit better by making it more traditional with a story etc. Same with the aqua show. It was good, fun to just watch them flip around and dive, but it felt disjointed.

    -No doughnuts on the boat.

-The windjammer seemed hit and miss. Great when it was a hit, but a couple times I walked around with a plate and literally took nothing. However, when I did find things I cared for, they were generally really good.

-The best part about the Oasis, if you are ever at a meal that isn't clicking, you just leave and go somewhere else. I had to do this 2 or 3 times, but it always worked out.

-The guest services line is really long and annoying. Unfortunately we had some issues with our seapass cards and we got some bad info regarding showtimes. The showtimes were off all week.

-The comedians were very very good. Funny, great venue overall a great time.

-I had the drink package, the way run of the mill drinks were made varied quite a bit from bar to bar. If you are picky or particular, you might want to call exactly what you want so you aren't surprised. Overall bar service was very good.

-Breakfast in the main dining room is particularly awful. Soft spongy waffles, lukewarm eggs, bad pancakes, just terrible. Johnny Rockets makes a decent breakfast sandwich.

-The casino wasn't the smokey mess I've seen reported here. Smelled of smoke, but it wasn't some thick cloud you couldn't see through or anything.

Again, it was a really good time. I wouldn't hesitate to go on or recommend this class of ship to anyone. I think the move the dynamic dining is a great idea and if executed properly will be a huge plus. Tons to do, a lot of fun, Sabor, overall decent food, it was a good time.

  18. As you guys know, we book these cruises months and sometimes years in advance and life has a tenancy to get complicated around cruise time :-)

I have a question about the business center capabilities onboard the Oasis.

Specifically, will I have the capability to access webmail, download a pdf, print the PDF, and then scan it back in?

I'm sure I can hit webmail and download the PDF, I'm pretty sure I can print, and I have no idea if they have scanners available or not.

If it's everything but a scanner, the iPhone 6+ probably has a good enough camera to suffice, but I prefer a scanned PDF.

Anyone take a cruise where they had to sign documents at sea?

    Thanks.

  19. Er. I've only been singing happy birthday once!

I'm afraid I can't help with identifying the song as I've never heard it on a ship's tv but I do know that to wash your hands properly you need to sing the "Happy Birthday" song twice all the way through! 😀 Sorry I wasn't able to help but hopefully someone else will know the song.
  20. Ah, yah. People were talking about a Margaritaville or converting it to Rita's. If they are converting it to anything, my guess is that they would convert it to one of the Dynamic Dining specialties, since Dynamic Dining is being installed at the same time and space is probably an issue since it's being retrofitted.

Yes, I realize that. But it sounded to me as if the reference was for the complimentary dining. All restaurants on the Oasis, whether for a fee or complimentary will be considered Dynamic Dining after the changeover .

I'm sorry I did not make that clear.
