  1. One tip I use that saves me internet fees is texting. With my provider (Verizon) I can send a text for 50 cents and it only costs a nickle to receive one. This is while on the ship, prices are different in port. That way my family members and I can have emergency contact without worrying about checking email. From what I understand the prices are similar for a lot of the US cell companies.

  2. Carnival assigned us to a cabin on Deck 12 of the Sunshine. The notation says that we are not entitled to the Spa amenities because we didn't book a "spa cabin".

How much are the spa passes for the day or week?

Also, is it worth it on the Sunshine since they don't have a Thalassotherapy Pool?

What areas of of the spa are available to the public and which are reserved for those who actually booked a spa cabin?

  3. In Roatan we did the dune buggy excursion with Sandblasters. The ride up the mountain and back down is beautiful. You can opt out of the mud pit if you don't want to get real muddy. It was a nice tour of the island with a little extra excitement.

  4. We just came back from Roatan where we had a wonderful time with the Sandblasters Dune Buggy people. I would recommend this excursion to everyone! The starting point is in their compound about a 10 minute ride from the port. After the paperwork, instructions, etc. was done they loaned us goggles to wear and gave us our choice of bandannas. They also have changing rooms so you can change into clothes that you don't mind getting wet and muddy. We piled into our dune buggies for our trip. I rode in a buggy with my husband. Other people rode by themselves.

We drove up the mountains through the rain forest experiencing spectacular views as we got higher and higher. It was drizzling so we got pretty muddy just on the way up the mountain. That was nothing compared to the fun we had once we reached the mud pit! My husband hit the mud pit at full speed which resulted in a 50 ft tidal wave of mud coming down on us! We made several passes through the mud and when we were done I had mud in places that I didn't know that I had places.

After the mud pit our guide lead us to a private beach where we could clean off in the beautiful clear water. The air temp was a little chilly, but the water was nice and warm. When my husband dove into the water the cloud of mud that billowed off him was hilarious.

We drove to a beautiful resort for the optional lunch. They had outdoor showers where we could rinse off. The food was delicious. There were some who opted out of the lunch and they just had a drink or just relaxed for a bit.

The ride back down the mountain was just as beautiful. Although we got pretty muddy again. That was fine. The Sandblasters compound had a hose that we could rinse off again at the end of the ride before we changed into our clean, dry clothes.

This trip was the highlight of our cruise!

  5. We just did this on Thanksgiving! We had an absolute blast and as many cruises as we've done fun things on, this excursion ranked top 3 for my family! It was truly fun.

We commented to our guide that we would have probably paid extra just to go by ourselves with the guide next time, and he said they'd do that, you just have to ask in advance.

    Hope this helps someone else!

Do you have any contact info for Shark Tours? We had a similar conversation with our tour guide the last time we were in Costa Maya. Unfortunately I lost his business card. We are heading back there soon and I would like to set up a tour with them.

  6. Trying to decide on a cabin. I usually like to have a starboard cabin so we see the port/restaurants/jetties on the way out of Port Canaveral. The PVP mentioned that this puts us on the wrong side of the ship for all the other ports. Is there any way to find out which side of the ship faces the port in Cozumel, Roatan & Costa Maya? Also, Belize City even though I realize that it is a tender port.
