  1. My comment had more to do with explaining that the daughter did NOT have a wife, as the other poster stated.

It doesn't matter what ORDER the OP said .... wife and daughter went on a cruise or daughter and wife went on a cruise. Not the point. The point is ... the daughter does NOT have a wife.

Thank you. The daughter is 5 years old, so is not married.

In any case, I said "my daughter and wife," in which case "my" modifies both "daughter" and "wife." I did not say "my daughter and her wife."

But, thanks for the advice. I think an actual phone call is in order, as opposed to trying anything online.

  2. My daughter and wife recently returned from an NCL cruise with her sister's family. She never got her final statement on board (when she returned to the room, the statement had already been removed). However, her sister told her that she (the sister) had paid for all of my wife's and daughter's tips and shore excursions, so we weren't expecting much. (My wife doesn't drink and didn't buy much of anything onboard.)

We just got the credit card bill yesterday, to the tune of $1200. So, we suspect that the tips and shore excursions actually went to my wife's account.

How do we get a copy of the final onboard statement? Don't see anyplace on the NCL site to download it.

  3. As a big family gift, my parents are talking us on the Oosterdam to Alaska next week. "Us" is my wife and I, 2 teenagers and a 2-year-old, and my sister's family (with 2 pre-teens).

My understanding from my parents is that they didn't make dinner reservations because the early seating was full, and the late seating was just too late for the smaller kids. As a result, they plan to eat at the buffet restaurant.

    We are packing. Questions:

    (1) Since we are eating upstairs and not in the main dining room, does that mean that we don't have to worry about packing for the 2 formal nights? (THAT would make things a lot easier.)

    (2) Alaska in August means rain, right? So, raincoats for things like the zip-line shore excursion?

    (3) Last cruise I took a few years ago, the tip was $8/pp/day. What is current tip on HAL? For a Sunday-Sunday cruise, do they charge for 7 days, or do they double up on the Sundays and charge for 8?

    (4) Anything else we should know? I know that HAL isn't exactly the ideal cruise line to bring a 2-year-old (we didn't make the decision and we don't look gift horses in the mouth), so any advice would be appreciated.

  4. We are going on a cruise to Alaska this summer with the extended family. We will also have a 2-year-old at the time. I know that cruising with a 2-year-old isn't ideal since kids' programs generally start at age 3.

We do, however, have some input into which cruise line we use. Any suggestions -- is there a line that has a place parents can take their babies?
