  1. Not experienced any misfortunes on board but on a visit to St Kitts on Britannia, we visited a resort for the day, only to have the misfortune in that numerous staff from the ship found their way there. Unsavoury behaviour apart, we left some of our belongings to take some lunch. My partner went back to gather our towels, which had been thrown off our loungers by said staff. I enquired where my hat was to be told she hadn't seen it. I went to look and one of the entertainment team was wearing it. How I kept my cool was admirable for me. !!

  2. I've no intention of being drawn into the debate on the new regulations due to be implemented Feb 2019. That has been dealt with in numerous threads already.

However, whilst some passengers certainly need to look at their anti social attitude and demeanour, surely, crew need to do likewise ?

Two years ago I visited a private garden resort in St Kitts hoping to spend an idyllic day using the facilities there. However, the day was soured somewhat when a group of the Britannia entertainment staff arrived and displayed the most appalling behaviour. Their foul language, disregard of the poolside rules, anti-social attitude, overly loud screeching and total oblivion to the fact they were preventing the small amount of guests enjoying the pool area was akin to hooliganism. I even witnessed one throwing an empty bottle into the manicured gardens below.

I will be at this resort next Tuesday. I am hoping that if the entertainment staff from the Azura are there, their behaviour will be more in keeping with what P&O expect of their staff.

I made a complaint on returning to the Ship but am unaware if any action was taken. I'm all for young adults enjoying themselves but this was way beyond that.

So, P&O, you are quite right to request that passengers comply with standards. Here's hoping your staff do likewise. Paul Farrow

  3. Interesting topic. I've used Cruise Critic Roll Calls and similar ever since my first cruise and found them so very useful for arranging excursions and, indeed, making acquaintances, even meeting on occasions pre-cruise in the city of embarkation. However, on my first P&O cruise I didn't speak to one British person who was even aware such a group existed. I can only guess why but other posters have made valid points why this might be the case.

I have to add that some of the contributors to Roll Calls do like to make it a talking shop and seem to delight in telling all and sundry that they've just pegged their washing out:confused:.... I'm sure you get my drift.

  4. Ah, now I know who Cheryl Baker is. Bucks Fizz do remember. Kathryn Jenkins, I feel the same, she swallows her notes. Awful warble. Friend of mine who was a singer thinks the same.

That would explain why she's made approximately £16 million. Because your friend is a singer, it doesn't make him or her an expert of any sort.

Back to the theme and personal opinions on artists aside. Shows in the theatres normally have a 45 minute duration. For how long do these paid for acts perform ?? Surely not a mere hour or so ?

  5. Browsed previous threads on this but those were equally confusing. I'm cruising from Southampton and my e-ticket states 'Maximum weight 20kg per bag'. Below is the information from P&O's website.

''When sailing roundtrip from Southampton, you can bring as many pieces of luggage as you can comfortably fit into your cabin, as long as each item weighs no more than 23 kilograms for safety and handling purposes.

If an individual piece of luggage exceeds 23kg at embarkation you will be recalled to the terminal and asked to remove items or repack your bags. Your baggage may also be delayed at disembarkation if you exceed this limit.''

Has anyone experienced this dilemma ? I realise that Health & Safety rears it's head here but surely it's a bit silly having two suitcases for the sake of a couple of kgs ?

  6. Would be interested to know if any of the contributors on this thread to date have been to Island Margarita (Venezuela). I've been on seven cruises and only used the ship's excursion once. However, this port of call is troublesome as there appears to be only one main operator, namely Magic Tours, and they require 50% of the fee in advance , payable to a bank in New York.

Add to the mix that reviews imply that the vast majority of taxi drivers offering tours speak little or no English. Please advise . Thanks Paul

  7. Totally agree with shallwe. I've been on seven cruises and this was the only ship's excursion I've used (albeit with RCI ). The distance from port is too risky to chance making your own arrangements in my opinion and, as mentioned, the traffic there and back was a nightmare.

  8. Yes it is and you order the night before. The waiter gives you a menu for the following evening. It is normally an excellent service.

Totally agree with the above. My partner has an allergy to wine, which is a nightmare with chefs invariably adding it to sauces and similar. Contact the maitre d' at your allotted restaurant before your first sitting and they will ensure you do not have any food you are allergic to in your chosen meal for the remainder of the cruise. As dgs1956 mentions, you will have the following night's menu during your dining and your dish will be prepared by a chef especially set aside for this purpose.

We have had this situation on Celebrity, P&O and RCI and the attention has always been fantastic, even with freedom dining, where you may have a different head waiter each evening.

    Paul

  9. Totally agree with previous poster. The only Ship's excursion I've ever taken was to Pisa/Florence as the latter is some distance from Livorno and I felt more comfortable knowing any traffic problems etc would not be an issue if on Ship organised tour.

As for the roll call. Been on other Cruise lines and arranged many excursions with fellow passengers but the P&O forums are poorly subscribed to for the most part. I'm on the Britannia in Nov and there are approximately a dozen people on the roll call, so there's less chance of sharing a taxi or tour operator than I've found previously.

    Paul.

  10. I've just a relevant question over on the Princess forum and been told that Royal and Regal Princesses (sisters to Britannia) don't have this functionality either. However, I was also told that Crown, Emerald and Ruby Princesses - the sisters to Ventura and Azura - also don't have it, so it looks as if it was P&O-only enhancement feature on Ventura and Azura.

I was on the Emerald Princess in Jan 2008 and they had the account details on the cabin TV's then.

  11. Is 'back to back' or 'B2B' merely 'consecutive' in a different language ?? I would have thought that if something was following immediately after another it would be front to back. Ah well..... just a thought.:)

  12. Seems there are numerous folk on this thread advising allsorts. Not everyone has limitless budgets. One very considerable point is that recommending self booked scheduled flights with BA or Virgin means an additional cost. P&O will allow you to do this but the price of your package cruise remains the same. In effect, you are paying for two flights.

I have enquired about flying schedule, as we wanted to stay with friends for a few days in Barbados pre-cruise but the web site distinctly asks you do you want to book with flights included. Tick the NO THANKS box and the price remains the same.

  13. Glad your question was answered and you’re up to speed. Before you know it you’ll be speaking good old USA lingo.

 Heaven forbid !!! lol Sadly the only descriptive adjective people seem to know these days is 'amazing'. I counted it eleven times in 20 minutes on a breakfast programme this week.

  14. Thanks for that...especially the side to side bit !! :) Ridiculous term whoever started it. If you are in a line and next in succession you'd surely be front to back ??? Ah well.

''Back-to-back houses are a form of terraced house in which two houses share a rear wall (or in which the rear wall of a house directly abuts a factory or other building).''
