I forgot I had this picture on this computer. This was taken by my son on the first night of their honeymoon, as they were leaving Galveston, in August 2003.

 

Judy, you need to have a talk with your son. First night of his honeymoon and he's out taking pictures?:eek:

Another shot from our whale excursion in Lahaina. We were more than 100 yards away and the boat close to the whales is a research boat.

Thank you. I really lucked out on the excursion, they said the young calf was just learning how to breach and it just kept doing it over and over - it was great fun.

We were very lucky in taking a Pacific Whale Foundation excursion while tendered in Lahaina. The season had typically ended but there was a pod of a female, very young calf and two adult males that gave some great viewing opportunities. That is a research boat and is allowed close proximity to the whales.
