    Thats too bad.

Nothing has changed since the Royal left the shipyard.    😡

Had the same issue for almost 1 month on the Royal in an aft corner suite.

    It was bad.

It was nasty but I wasn’t going to let it ruin my cruise.  They’re aware of the problem because a met was put by the interior balcony door for me to wipe my feet/shoes. I wasn’t going to walk through the cabin tracking soot through it.

  2. I wandered the ship during the night, when everyone was asleep. It is a beautiful ship. Definitely try the room service. Ask for a plate of potato chips and definitely try the chocolate layer cake. Get to Movies Under The Stars early.  I preferred the buffet over the dining room. I was not impressed with anything I ordered for dinner in the MDR. Have a great time!

  3. I had Cabin D720, premium aft on the Royal Princess during the January 5, 2019 sailing. The balcony is huge.  Larger than the cabins above & below the Dolphin deck.  Definitely larger than Caribe.  There were 2 chairs/foot rest and a round table.  It could have easily held 2 chaise loungers, too. There was partial shade.  I was very excited about having this aft balcony because of the view however I wouldn’t get an aft balcony again.

The soot was present. I brought pool towels down to my cabin and covered the chairs.  I wouldn’t go on the balcony bare footed because the bottom of my feet got dirty.  I would leave the shoes by the balcony door so I wouldn’t track the soot into the cabin.  My room steward, Jose, never wiped down the chairs.  The balcony had no breeze, even when at sea. In port it was hot.  I didn’t let the soot ruin my cruise.  I worked around it. Also, I have a battery operated fan that I used while sitting on the balcony. As a single the cruise cost me way too much- $2800.  As I wrote, I won’t do it again.  Live and learn.

As Tony said ... the International Cafe is ALWAYS open and has good things so don't worry about not being able to get food in the middle of the night!  :classic_wink:

Great. I’m retired law enforcement and worked all shifts for decades, always on-call, too.  My body clock is different than most and retirement hasn’t changed me being wide awake at 4 AM.

Local Media in Aruba report that a “muscular” man was struggling with the woman and suddenly began choking her. After that, he reportedly pushed her over the railing. Ships Security provided the police with the video footage. There are indications that video cameras have captured the moment in which the man had pushed the woman over the railing. Aruba Police (Korps Politie Aruba) have confirmed the tragic event and will perform an autopsy, to determine the cause of death.

Recipe for murder or most likely manslaughter:  Add anger, passion, jealousy and the #1 component:  alcohol.  Reason doesn’t exist when there are  quantities of alcohol involved. Twenty-five years CSI in South Florida. I know of which I speak.

  6. Hi. I don’t know anything about your itinerary however I’d like to say something about the ship. I’ve been on the Sea Princess and her sister ship, the Sun Princess. They are my favorite ships in the Princess fleet because they are smaller ships.  I am 50+ and enjoy a quieter ship and this one has a some nice deck areas away from the pool. That said- I don’t know if there will be much teen activities on board.  Now- the ship may have had renovations and they’ve put in a zip line, climbing wall and an ice skating rink. Check the website.  Happy Sailing!

  7. I apologize in advance if this has been discussed but I don't have good luck with search.

If you have a death in your family and have to cancel what happens to the 2nd person in the cabin? Are they allowed to file insurance as well or do they have to go alone? We are not related.

Thank you in advance for all helpful answers.

I’m wondering what happened with your claim. Were you and your roommate on the same Insurance or did you have separate policies?

  8. We're wanting to book a cruise on the Majestic Princess. We like the aft balconies. We're looking at the Dolphin deck, either D730 or D731, which are the only ones left. There appears to be a large wall between them and we're worried it may be a problem with the view. Does anyone have any advice on these cabins?

I’ve booked D730 on the Royal and I’m thinking it just may block some breeze from the top. The balcony is huge and the wall would maybe give more privacy?

    Did you book it?

  9. There's different types of furniture as some aft balconies are suites, and some deluxe balcony and some regular balcony...

We've had a footstool on all our deluxe balcony cabins on Royal and Regal. Maybe we were lucky, I don't know. Close to 100 days between them, that's a lot of luck.

You can ask the room steward for a footstool, otherwise, bring the small table from inside the cabin outside, or the desk chair or use the other lounge chair to prop your feet. The standard balcony chairs (blue mesh ones) do recline - not flat, bit a decent amount - you're not upright.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

  10. Are you sure you were viewing a Royal Princess video? I don't believe there is an area with live grass that needs mowing. This sounds like it might be a Celebrity Solstice class ship.

I thought it was the Royal but maybe it was a Celebrity YouTube video. I was originally booked on Celebrity snd decided to come back home to Princess. I’ll have to bring my own grass or a picture of a lawn.

  11. All Princess ships have a retractable clothes line in the shower in every cabin, regardless of cabin type.

Only outside speakers on Princess ships are on Lido and Promenade deck. Only the speakers at the main pool or with MUTS have music or entertainment. Promenade deck speakers are used only for Muster or when scenic cruising (Alaska glaciers, Panama Canal, etc.)

    Thank you, Pam.

  12. Quiet outside public areas on the Royal

4 outside seating areas with wooden padded lounge chairs on deck 7, 2 mid ship & 2 aft. The aft starboard area has a smoking area.

Horizon Terrace. Coffee & Hot Chocolate available at no charge.

Two seating areas, one each side at the entrance to the Retreat pool.

    The Retreat pool itself

The Sanctuary, there is a charge to use this area and it always must be booked on boarding day.

No grass areas on the Royal Princess or on any other Princess ship. Different cruise line.

I musta been smokin the grass when I saw them mowing it. LoL. Thank you for the listing of quiet spaces.

  13. I would suggest taking a small foldable camping foot stiil with you to use for your feet. Also mention the need on your personalizer and to your cabin steward as something could be arranged for you. I believe they are available.

I do prefer to travel without bringing furniture. Lol. Thank you for your suggestions about the cruise personalizer. I didn’t see where I could request this need. My cabin steward may be my best bet. Thanks again.

  14. You're looking at videos of two different ships there mate.

Princess ships do not have any live grass areas. Royal itself, no outdoor live grass areas - there's nowhere a gardener will be moving the lawn on a Princess ship.

That is Celebrity, on their Solstice class ships (5 of them).

As for your balcony furniture - the balcony chair does recline - some. It doesn't go flat, but it goes back a decent ways. We've had a foot rest with our chairs (always a balcony cabin, not mini suites, etc), usually tucked underneath when first arriving. If there's not s footrest, you can certainly ask for one. There may not be extras available though, so be prepared to prop your feet on the railing or the other chair..

There are tons of photos and YouTube videos online of Royal balconies and furniture... Quick Google search brings them up .

Yes, there's a clothesline in the bathroom.

I have Googled Royal Aft and there are different types of basic patio furniture. This is why I asked for recent information about the Drlixe balcony Aft. Thank you for your response.

  15. Hi. I’m a solo cruiser and have an upcoming winter cruise with a deluxe Dolphon Aft balcony on the Royal. I’ve seen various videos & photos that show different types of balcony furnishings. Can anyone describe or provide a current photo? Is there a foot rest? I have severe back issues and sitting up isn’t always possible. Can a lounge chair be moved onto the very large Dolphin balcony?

Is there a retractable clothesline in the bathroom?

One cruiser posted to You Tube an early morning video of the pool decks, outside Horizon and the grassy lawn area of the Royal. It was so early that the crew was mowing the lawn! Throughout the entire video there was music blasting though speakers. Are there any outside public areas where one can enjoy quiet??

    Thanks.

  16. I really prefer to not be seated with random strangers for dinner -- have tried on previous sailings with my spouse. I'm sailing solo on Star Princess in Alaska with Anytime Dining. Has anyone with a similar request had success with introducing oneself to the Maitre'd upon embarkation and pressing American currency into his/her hand? Any other strategies to suggest?

I intend to dine in the dining room - not a buffet lover. My preference for my own table is based less on experiences with bad company (there have bee a few!) and more on not having the patience/interest in sitting through an extended dinner as my random tablemates order multiple rounds of drinks and extra courses creating a very, very long event. I'd much rather move on to another activity!

If I'm "stuck" sharing, how rude is it considered to excuse myself after everyone has finished their entree? I really don't need the dessert calories!

At any point during the meal, tell your table mates that it was lovely meeting them. Wish them a wonderful cruise, stand up from the table and say goodbye. It’s polite and that’s all that needs to be said. You owe them nothing except to be polite about your departure. Politeness is what’s expected.
