  1. This would have been the ideal way to do it, unfortunately with the itinerary it’s RT from Barcelona, so we will be spending a few days there prior to departure. I’m hoping someday we will be back to Rome.

I greatly appreciate all of the feedback from you all, we will do some digging and see what we come up with!

Ive been to Rome thee times and we always use Rome In Limo for our excursions. My first was very similar to your in and out of Barcelona and a 12 hr stop in Rome. Rome In Limo do a great private tour for 8ea and we focused on the Vatican and Colosseum and a few other main sites. Enjoy your visit to my favorite city in the world.

  2. Got pulled out for screening at Miami. WE were with a large group but the bus waited for us. Customs wouldn't let us use our cell phones. bummer.

WE were also lucky at Barcelona. Seems at least 10 percent of passengers had to go through extensive screening.

Hey Larry and Barbara, This is Larry aka (SOFTAIL) I see you are on the roll call for the Solstice Hawaii on 4-30-18. Are you still taking this cruise? We are on it and would love to see you. Larry

  3. Hi @all,

Here I have found a cruise call list of the French Riviera ports: http://www.riviera-ports.com/nos-services/croisiere/planning-escale

Interestingly, both Millennium and Solstice are listed for the French Riviera, I think it is Cannes.

Just fill in the date range for 2018, and you will see.

Either those are placeholders for other ships, or they are indeed coming back to Europe, and get to be replaced by other ships on their Alaska itineraries.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I agree that they were both listed on this site. But as of now they are both gone from the 2018 dates?

  4. Sure. I'd expect Solstice to be redirected to the northwest out of Sydney at the end of the season if they go ahead with these plans.

Rumor is that at the end of season in Sydney she will sail to Europe through the Suez canal to start cruising there. Hopefully a different S class ship will do the Sydney to Honolulu and Honolulu to Vancouver then Alaska for the summer

  5. I stayed at the Cesari in September and location was most important to me. It's a nice hotel in a great location withs lots of places to eat at close by. Has a very nice roof top bar and dining area. The Bracco is 4 star in a more upscale area. So I'm sure it may be nicer but location always is my number one criteria. Bottom line your in Rome and on vacation. How bad can it be lol.

  6. Does anyone know where the Silhouette will be in June, 2017?

We were looking at an early summer cruise to the Baltic 2017, but when looking at the Celebrity site all I get at that time is a May 19 to June 1 cruise and then the next cruise starts on June 29. So what is the Silhouette doing between June 1 to June 29; dry dock, private booking, or not yet released?

Also we did get an e-mail from Celebrity last night for the 2017 release and we have only gone on one Celebrity cruise.

    6-1-17 6-8-17 6-15-17 6-22-17 6-29-17 All 7 day cruises out of Stockholm RT

  7. I don't think that RCI will do more cruises on the West Coast or the Panama Canal. The cost transiting thru the new Canal will be significant compared using the old one. The Oasis class is too big to pass thru the canal even the new one. There aren't many ports that can handle the Voyager class ships on the West Coast .

Celebrity might bring some more Solstice Class ships . It all depends their long range deployment plans.

The Oasis class is too big to pass thru the canal even the new one. That is incorrect. They could fit through the new canal the problems is that Oasis Class are to tall to pass under the Bridge of the Americas even at low tide.

  8. You can do it yourself at the buffet, there are tea bags of various flavors.

There is an iced tea dispenser at the buffet, but you might not find it to your taste. We find that mixing the iced tea from the dispenser with a little lemonade from the dispenser is ok, but the iced tea alone was lacking.

At Cafe al Bacio they will brew iced tea for you and put it over ice, but they do not keep pitchers of iced tea ready, it's always tea made to order then poured over ice.

If you have a drinks package they have cans of Arizona iced tea all over the ship.

  9. Have you been to Rome since the fire last spring? It's a mess.

Just flew back on September 16th and was no different than two years ago. I fly FCO to Amsterdam so that may be a different terminal than others have flown from. Also i fly out at 615am so i may also be way ahead of the impending madness. Larry

  10. We are in Naples for a day - dock at 7am leave at 8pm. We would dearly love to rent a motorcycle to take us from Naples and down the winding roads along the Amalfi coast.

Not sure where to stop or what to do just heard the coastline was an amazing experience.

So can anyone help us with a hire company? I can't find one online anywhere! Also any suggestions for a DIY day..

If there are no bikes for rent - what is the best way to do this ourselves.

Where should we stop? Happy to go by boat somewhere if that is the best alternative?

    Thank you

Ive been down the Amalfi coast twice and used Romeinlimo both times for a private excursion. 8 people total from our Roll Call. I would not even consider a bike rental. Its much nicer to have someone else do the driving and you just sit back and enjoy.

  11. The Tom's Port site states that most cruise lines provide a private shuttle from the cruise area to St Mark's Square, for a very modest cost, and recommends it highly. Has anyone taken it? We are due into Venice this September, and it is our first visit. I don't see it listed anywhere on the cruise information for Royal Caribbean.

We were there a few years ago on Carnival and they didnt have one.

  12. Hi all.

Going on a cruise departing from Rome (Civitavecchia) and am interested in staying close to the port area, rather than in Rome itself, since the Port is in the opposite direction from FCO than Rome (plus spent several days in Rome recently). I have to think there is a charming seaside town somewhere along the coast...but can't find much info.

Of course, I can still stay in Rome if that really is the best option, but the transportation to the City from FCO then to the port from the city will be expensive (unless there is good train availability).

    Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

We stayed in the Hotel Miramare in Civi and it was quite nice and right on the boardwalk. 5 euro pp taxi to the port

  13. Many thanks to those that responded about the out-of-the-way location for the Marriott Courtyard. Can anyone suggest a 4 star hotel that is relatively in the center of Rome for approximately $150 a night, at the end of Oct.

Not sure about 4 Star or $150.00 a night. But you could look at the Albergo Cesari for a popular hotel and a great location a few blocks from the Pantheon.

  14. All,

Only in Bruges for very short time (port stop) on September 4th - absolutely love Belgium Beer...

Would love to have some recommendations for a brewery tour in that area?

Also, if the brewery tour is not an option any good bars in the area for great selection of Belgium Beers?

    Thanks all...

Welcome to Cruise Critic come over to the Roll Call for the cruise. Lots of great people and info. Larry

  15. Does anyone know if the hotels on Las Rambla are pretty much in the same area? We are booked and paid for Hotel Continental the night before our cruise in June. We want to change the reservation for two nights pre-cruise but they are sold out. If we can find another hotel close by I would book that and change hotels in the morning if they are close enough. Don't want to lose my money on the prepaid room:(

Did you ask if there other Hotel the Palacete is booked? Its only 2-3 blocks due north.
