  1. I have found that there are very few Canadian style outlets in cabins.  Or they're placed in awkward locations.  Using European to Canadian plug adapters can work but they're often made shoddily.  Now we nsed USB and USB-c plugs as well.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A GOOD MODEL OF EUROPEAN-CANADIAN/USB/USB-C PLUG ADAPTOR SYSTEM THAT CAN ALSO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF AVAILABLE OUTLETS?  SAME COULD BE SAID FOR OUTLETS THAT DO ACCOMMODATE CANADIAN PLUGS... STILL NOT ENOUGH SO ALONG THE SAME LINES, ARE THERE SUGGESTIONS FOR PLUG INSERTS THAT INCREASE PLUG-IN CAPACITY (INCLUDING FOR REGULAR PLUGS, USB AND USB-C?)?

  2. Very balanced and excellently written review.  Glad Luminae is basically maintaining the standards we experienced apart from the steak which was also always great when we sailed (pre-reno on Constellation/Summit).  Sounds like the Solstice Class mad-designers had a go at the M Class refit for the staterooms!  Oh well.  Still love Celebrity.  And the more we think about MSC, despite the gorgeous Yacht Club, the less interested we are to return given the always tendentious food quality (at lieat from our perspective).

  3. Haven't eaten in Blu. But if you ever have a chance and can book a Sky Suite (or higher if you can afford it I guess!), you'll be eating in Luminae. This might be the best restaurant at sea that we've ever used and we've been cruising since 1999. In fact it might even be better than many land-based 'top tier' restaurants. Worth a try!

  4. I didn't finish my post and forgot to mention that between the non-existent orders as well as reductions in service and general satisfaction, Celebrity could be on a downward spiral (i'd mentioned this once before), and perhaps RCI will eventually close them down! It's part of a vicious cycle.... poorer service, reduced satisfaction, fewer bookings, less income, reduce service (costs) some more, leading to reduced satisfaction to the point where bookings eventually fall off to the point where the company is no longer viable.

I do miss the 'old' Celebrity... Zenith, etc

  5. Am I wrong or has Celebrity not ordered new ships up to 2019? I wonder if this is telling us something about its future? I know more and more people who were diehard fans of Celebrity have become increasingly disenchanted with this company. Recent reductions in entertainment staff to 4/ship (less that I've seen in single lounges on other ships... oh, and I used to LOVE Celebrity and cruised this company almost exclusively... since the early 1990's... for years but not for the past couple of years as I have noticed a decline in their level of service).

  6. Ummm... are you aware that Celebrity is owned by Royal Caribbean, which is a multi-billion dollar corporation, and is currently producing massive profits for it's shareholders ? You want to be unhappy with Celebrity's product ? that's your call... but to say they are going bankrupt, is beyond any logic whatsoever.

At any rate, I hope you find a cruise experience that suits your needs.

Thanks for the comment and to a large extent I see your point. But don't forget that GM and the other automakers were too large to fail! They failed. As for a subsidiary being protected by a healthier mother company y again, I remind you about SAAB and GM! In trying to stay afloat (pun intended!), the once might GM dropped SAAB (and Saturn BTW) leading to its ultimate and complete failure that is still trying to revive itself. So a subsidiary like Celebrity can still fail, particularly if and/or when the mother corp decides to end the drainage and suffering! I agree with Dr Cocktail. We are now getting away with murder insofar as fares are concerned. I am turning to the same cruise lines as he, in recognition of the fact that in reality, by going to the better companies, we are paying more or less what we used to and getting the product that so enchanted us when we 1st started cruising!

    All the best!

  7. We started sailing on Celebrity in the 90's when Zenith wasn't even a year old! Celebrity was so luxurious and had such amazing service that when we would enquire of a TA about trying a similar level cruise line (i.e. Not, say, Crystal), we would always have them ask, 'what line have you sailed before?' When we told them we'd used Celebrity, they'd give a shrug and tell us that we'd likely not enjoy the others (e.g. RCI, HAL, NCL, Cunard etc.). So we continued with Celebrity to the point where I started to lose count! Moreover, if we did try other

lines, we inevitably could not wait to get back to Celebrity.

Unfortunately, after Celebrity was bought by RCI, we feared that Celebrity was not going to fare well. Indeed, RCI appropriated some Meyer Werft ships destined for Celebrity, sending Celebrity to Chantier de Atlantique... The Millennium a Class ships. They were superficially lovely but their standards of construction were not even close to the German-builds. But Celebrity still had many distinctive and superior characteristics.

Fast forward to the early 2000s, and then we noticed a slow but sure deterioration in any one of several service, food, music or entertainment aspects. And NOW... we have finally reached a point where Celebrity is no longer our cruise line of choice if at all.

I truly believe that we are witnessing symptoms of the relatively soon demise of Celebrity as it spirals down towards reduced service, reduced income leading to more reduced service and ultimately... Bankruptcy! :(

  8. I'm no naval architect, but you've got to wonder what geniuses decided to put premium balcony cabins under a disco? These same guys also place suites under jogging tracks and gymnasia. And... as far as the forward facing Haven Suites are concerned, has anyone seen the postage stamp balconies? Why bother? Why didn't they just have a sliding glass door that opens to allow in the fresh air and the sound of the ocean. Who are they kidding???

Some day someone will finally talk some sense into the designers so that the ships and the staterooms are as passenger friendly as possible and not merely designed so as to fit as many as possible in the smallest possible space.
