Just returned from sailing on the Millennium May Trans-Pacific Cruise from Tokyo toVancouver. The woman’s sauna was non-operational for the second week of the cruise. As a result, the spa staff opted to convert the men’s sauna to a unisex sauna. This was extremely awkward as they left the men’s dressing area open. Access to the unisex sauna was through the pool door. Some Asian guests didn’tunderstand the process and female guests were washing swimming suits near the men’s showers and sinks as men were using the showers. The staff required bathing attire in the sauna which caused European male guests to get into altercations with female guests who didn’t like the fact that these men were only wearing towel cover-ups. The sauna experience is very different for men and woman. The woman wanted to chat endlessly and cover themselves in Vaseline and cold cream. It was extremely awkward and something I hope Celebrity doesn’t implement as a future direction of unisex saunas. A very unpleasant experience.
