We've made it to GSC three times out of three attempts, all in March or April. Guess we've been lucky?

Why can't they just move people to a different lifeboat location where there is room? If cabins 1-10 were supposed to go to lifeboat station "A" why cant they tell cabin 10 to go station "B" where there is room, which would allow an extra 2 people to be added to a cabin?
Well, each cabin's muster station is posted on a sign permanently mounted on the inside of each cabin door, for one thing.

Two years ago I fell and tore a tendon in my knee, requiring emergency surgery and putting my leg into a straight brace for two months. We had a two week Alaska cruise booked but decided to cancel ... based on the size and layout of the bathrooms, and with my knee locked straight in the brace, there would simply have been no way to physically sit on the toilet in the tiny space provided.

What would your explanation be for a higher bid for the same stateroom category to not be accepted, but a lower bid to be accepted?
I’m, just for fun (because it really doesn’t matter much in the scheme of things), trying to figure why this would happen?
Maybe NCL thinks that they can resell the lower-bidder's original cabin for more than they can resell the higher-bidder's original cabin?

TSA airline NOT APPROVED !
According to the TSA site, hiking poles are allowed in checked baggage.
-
As I recall, in 2012 we had to walk our own luggage through security before we were allowed to drop it off with the porters. Without you, your bags will probably just sit on the curb and not get loaded onto the ship.

Thanks. We're boarding in five days, so am looking forward to seeing the rest of your review before we go :)

We bid on an upgrade for our cruise on the Getaway departing on the 12th of February. For others who have done so on previous cruises, when were you notified of the acceptance of your offer? We are less than 3 weeks out and am just curious as to whether or not we'll get our upgrade!
Thanks in advance... :)
We're on the same sailing as you, and received an email from NCL today that they've accepted our mini suite offer.

Yes, the Jewel does have an "Internet Cafe" (though I'm pretty sure you can't actually get coffee there). It shares the same space as the Art Gallery, on the port side of deck 7 aft.

No, we use a special underwater extension cord that's plugged into our Miami outlet.
I find that very hard to believe!
Wouldn't the cable get cut by the lock doors in the Panama Canal? :D

3) the itinerary shows us in the port of Stockholm and touring through the Archipelago. I have also heard though that this ship is too large to mKe it through this area and would have to dock at port at least one hour outside Stockholm. Does anyone know if Getaway is able to sail through Archipelago to Stockholm?
According to the Port of Stockholm website, you'll be docking at "Statsgarden", which is within walking distance of the old town. You'll definitely be sailing through the archipelago; when we did this cruise in 2013, the journey through the archipelago was absolutely magnificent - don't miss it!

Last week on the Jewel we had no trouble getting pins from the Cruise Next office. He even mentioned that they'd just received several new bags worth of pins!

They'll definitely be open. It might be a tad chilly, but they'll be open :)

When the Dawn came out of drydock with an updated hull art (no more dolphins and lady liberty)...it got me thinking...what other ships could use a modern update?
The Breakaway. That 15-foot high "Peter Max" splashed across the bow looks overpowering!
I know it's the artist's signature; maybe shrink it down to about 10% and move it below the waterline.

We love this excursion p. But take sea sickness meds if you are prone to getting seasick. It can get rough.
Hmmm ... thanks
-
Excellent news! We're thinking of doing this excursion, but my wife is a poor swimmer - she wouldn't be comfortable with wading ashore.

Why not go to Skagway and miss Victoria?
US regulations require that foreign-registered vessels stop at a foreign port if they're carrying passengers from a US port and back again (a "closed loop" cruise). Thus, the need to make a whistle-stop in Victoria; short cruises from LA to Catalina are in the same position, needing to stop in Ensenada Mexico for a few hours.

Very nice - suddenly getting excited about visiting there next February!
So, if one "accidentally" fails to return to the ship on time at HC, do they have to spend a week in this fantastic resort waiting to be picked up on the next sailing? :D
-
As others have explained, what you're planning is fine. Where you would suddenly run into trouble is if you then stayed aboard the ship on its' next sailing, if that terminated in Seattle (whether a 1-night Vancouver-Seattle, or a 7-day Vancouver-Alaska-Seattle).
Doing a repo from LA - Vancouver, immediately followed by a cruise to Seattle would be looked upon as a "LA - Seattle" cruise, which would cause problems.

Do not try this on The Pride of America
We dropped off with the porter and then went to return our rent car ... before we could return to check in we received a call from the porter that they would not check the bags through the scanners without an owner present TSA ???
In fact the fellow was rude about my error.
Never had a problem at any other port and on many other cruise lines.
I seem to remember on the POA in 2012 that we had to haul our own bags off the bus and into a long (very long) security line inside the terminal. Only after we'd escorted the bags through security were we able to hand the luggage off.

However unlike previous poster stated, the difference between a mini-suite and a balcony cabin greatly depends on the ship.
On some older ships (Dawn class and Jewel class) the above applies, but on new megaships all mini-suites do not have bathtubs and the actual cabin is pretty much the same size (only the bathroom is bigger).
Didn't know that about the newest ships. Thanks :)
-
Nope. A "Mini Suite" is actually just a "deluxe balcony" cabin. You get a little more space and a bathtub but it's not considered a "Suite", so no extra perks and booking bonuses.
-
Standard balconies ARE smaller (narrower) on GA and BA than on Escape.
Can you still get a small table and a pair of chairs onto the GA balcony, like you can with the Jewel class ships?

It's clearly one of those Stargate teleportation portals. Passengers should prepare themselves for a world of new explorations!
Or that time-travel vortex that sent the USS Nimitz back to WWII in "The Final Countdown".

"Morderno"? Seriously, NCL doesn't know the name of their own restaurant?
