  1. I am a woman in my 60’s who travels alone and had no problems in Barcelona last fall. As with all large cities be aware of your surroundings and your belongings. I recommend Travelon for a purse and backpack. I found them to be less expensive than Pacsafe and more functional. Have a great time. I throughly enjoyed my time there.

  2. My sister and I have a cruise booked for next year that sails out of Barcelona. We've never been to Europe or flew international so it's very much out of our comfort zone! I just read an article about safety in Barcelona that is making me second guess this cruise. Will two women in their 60s be safe? Can we trust the hotel safe to store our passports and extra cash? Appreciate any feedback from those that have been there.

  3. As others have stated bring some cash obtained from the bank and use ATM's. Check with your bank about withdrawal fees and if there are specific banks you can use to avoid the fees. My bank (Scotiabank in Canada) is part of the GLOBAL ATM alliance so this can save me $3.00 in the US OR $5.00 in Europe. These amounts could be out of date as I have not paid them in sometime. 4. Anyone looking for a TA next Spring? Independence of the Seas is coming up at ZERO single supplement for the May 4, 2014 sailing from Miami to Southampton - 14 days. Insides are $688 (plus taxes), balconies are $1153 (plus taxes) - some nice stops in the caribbean as well! I've booked even though I'm not sure I can get the days off work, but I have till February to try and work that out...

Thanks for posting this. I have just booked a D2 balcony for under $100 a night. Great price and I get to add a transatlantic to my bucket list completed. :) Gail

  5. Is there a list to get on in order to get the brochure/pre-sales event info? I am a C&A member but did not get any email or notice on this.

I am also a C&A member but I did not receive this link directly I found in on a Cruise Critic Message board. Have not seen anywhere to sign up for this so just have to check the link as it is updated (weekly I think) with the new sales.

  6. Does Royal Caribbean ever send out emails to C&A members with solo specials? Or any special mailing list to sign up on?

I prefer to cruise out of Galveston or New Orleans so I think that limits me to Navigator and Serenade?

Although not specific to solo specials the weekly RC sales do have some reduced single supplements and can be found here

I have not found any e-mails for this information yet.

  7. I saw this cruise the other day. I'm dithering at the moment. I'm not sure about travelling on MSC, especially with so many sea days. I enjoy sea days, but like to have a range of activities to join in with. Is this likely to be the case with MSC?

I was on the verge of booking RCI Adventure of the Seas on 4 November as this sails out of Southampton (I can get there in just over half an hour) to San Juan. The itinerary isn't quite as good as Divina, but I know that there will be plenty of activities for me to take part in.

I only have one cruise on each line but would go with RCI over MSC for activities and overall experience.
