You might also consider an Air tag if you have an iPhone.  Just a little round disc that you attach to your chair.  Synch with your phone and you can track where it is.  If you have a different phone there are similar items available but not with as wide coverage.  EM

    Great idea, thanks!

We just use a luggage tag (plus ID in the little storage area behind the back rest).   Many airlines request that you complete a form identifying your wheelchair (make, model, any damage, etc).   It's usually on their website.

When you make your plane reservations, request wheelchair assistance (using your own wheelchair) from the ticket counter all the way to the plane's door.   Those wheelchair pushers know how to get through the lines quickly.  (Tips are appreciated.)

Make sure you take the wheelchair all the way to the plane door (from there it will get put in the plane's storage below).   They will bring it back to you outside the plane's exit door when you get to your next stop.  If it's a connecting stop, a wheelchair pusher will take you to your connecting gate.  You want to be sure the wheelchair is personally with you and in the plane you're on at all times.  If it's your destination stop, a wheelchair pusher can take you to pick up your luggage and outside to your transportation.

PS:   When you get to your boarding area at the airport, let the airline person behind the counter know you have a personal wheelchair that you will be gate checking.   They will probably tag it and will also make sure you have the form mentioned in the first paragraph (if you don't have the form they will fill one out for you).

This is probably more informatoin than you want, but I didn't know if you had any experience with wheelchairs and flying.

Not too much information at all, it’s very much appreciated!

  3. We’ve just purchased a wheelchair for my husband to use for our cruise to Alaska.  We’ll be flying as well as taking trains, buses and a boat before boarding the cruise ship. It’s a push wheelchair.  How do most people label them for ID purposes?  Is a luggage tag sufficient?

  4. We cruised about a year ago, by the time I got home I had pink eye in both eyes, a fever, a double ear infection and an infected throat. We are cruising in December. I'm taking Airborne beforehand and Mucinex is going with us. Weirdly enough I'm the only one in our family who ever gets sick on vacation. And I'm religious about washing my hands & using hand sanitizer.

  5. My husband & I are cruising on the Grandeur of the Seas in December travelling to the Bahamas. He's interested in doing an airboat tour of the Everglades. Problem is he has mobility issues. He had a stroke which left him paralyzed on his left side. He's able to walk using a leg brace but can't walk very far.

So I have just a few questions: anyone who has done this type of tour: is it better to take it out of Port Canaveral or Miami? How much walking is actually involved in getting from the drop off point to the airboat? I know the boats have times when they go pretty fast, would he have any trouble holding on?

    Thank you!

  6. I'm taking notes and trying all of these on our next cruise. For some reason I'm the only one in our family who gets sick and I'm sick after every cruise.

Our last cruise was this past June, by the day after the cruise I had a fever, a double ear infection, a swollen throat and pink eye.

The doctor asked me if I had been around many people, I told him I'd been on 2 international flights, in 5 countries and on a cruise ship!

  7. My daughter and I spent a few days pre cruise there in May and found it was very easy to get around on your own using the tube. We did a Muggles walking tour with a guide but everything else was on our own. Make a list of what you want to see and plan out the most efficient way to see everything. It's a very easy city to navigate.

  8. I suspect you mean Windsor Castle?

There are numerous threads on this subject on the British Isles/Western Europe Ports of Call board ( we cover departures and arrivals, too [emoji846])

The major possibilities have been mentioned in this thread, but you will also find recommendations for other private hire companies, so you can get different quotes.

My bad! Of course you're right, sorry. We did thoroughly enjoy our time there, it's really gorgeous and we learned so much.

  9. We were on the Navigator of the Seas out of Southampton in May and experienced the worst muster drill ever. The staff did a very poor job of informing the passengers that they needed to muster so it was quite a long wait in the sun on a hot day. A woman behind us collapsed which effectively ended the muster drill before they had even gone through the roll call.

  10. Different strokes for different folks... I love ketchup on steak! I will usually only use ketchup at home or casual restaurants though and even I admit a really fantastic steak doesn't need anything.

  11. Besides the option of a tour/transfer thru the cruise line, check out the ones offered by International Friends.

Depending on the time of your flight, they do have tour/transfer service to Heathrow.

We were going to London for a couple of days post-cruise, and used IF. They picked us up at Southampton, took us to Stonehenge, Salisbury, and Windsor Castle, then on to London and dropped us off at the entrance to our hotel. Our driver and our guide were great, and even hauled our luggage from the bus to inside the door of the hotel when we got there!

When we booked, we did it thru the London Toolkit site, and got a discount. Also if you are a senior citizen they give a discount.

  13. We did this just last month after a Royal Caribbean cruise. We loved Windsor castle. It was a fantastic way to end our trip. Our luggage and carry ons were on the same bus as us. The bus was locked while in Windsor so we could leave items on the bus without worries . No problems getting to Heathrow and we were there with plenty of time.

  14. We were on the May 26th sailing and there was a Beatles tribute band, a British female comedian, a British male comedian and a broadway tunes show done by the ships singers and dancers. Being American a lot of the jokes from the comedians went right over our heads but we enjoyed the other shows. BTW-- the ship was sailing out of Southampton England so I'm not complaining about being unable to understand the jokes, just making a statement. Certainly most of the people there seemed to enjoy the shows.
