  1. I am confused. I have seen different postings referencing premium or specialty coffees being delivered via room service and they used their Beverage Plan. I am trying to decide which plan to get and that is a biggie for me as I plan on getting a latte or whatever from room service several times. Can your or can you not use your beverage plan to order a latte via room service?? Thanks!

  2. Is October too cold for Greece (or even other parts of the Mediterranean) if you want to possible swim, etc.?? Had planned on September but having problems with flights using airmiles.. so now it's October. Worried the weather won't be as nice. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  3. Thanks for all the great info from everyone! REally like the tip to scan the docs back and send as pdf attachment in email. One question though, the only one who had a delay mentioned having a travel agent. I wonder if all the speedy refunds are with RCCL direct? I should have mentioned we used a travel agent. Called him back and he said 10 to 15 business days and we had to cancel via the agency. I'm hoping it's faster. :) Thanks everyone!

  4. I had to cancel our cruise due to my wife's illness. I am supposed to get a refund for 50% from Royal Caribbean and have cruise insurance to cover the other 50% plus fees, etc since it's a medical issue. Does anyone have any experience on the turn around time to get the refund from RCCL? She's not working at the moment due to the illness that caused us to cancel the cruise (on FMLA) and obviously that refund will be of help short term. Thanks.

  5. My wife has been treated this past year for Dementia that is deemed "probable Early Onset Alzheimers". We purchased a cruise Jan 2013 for Feb 2014. During that time she's declined and has just this past week been asked to leave work and go on disability. Her dementia is such now that she is going to join a clinical trial in January. We have insurance thru Travel Insured that we purchased on the 30th day following our deposit so believe we are covered by pre-exisiting even if that is an issue. Question is that while we know she is unable to safely be on the cruise at this point and as of this week has stopped working and applied for disability per her doctor, it's not like surgery, hear failure, etc. Has anyone had any experience cancelling a cruise under these circumstances. I worry we will cancel and it will be declined!! I've searched the boards and can't find anything. Thanks!!!

  6. Wow, Jletsgo... 2 weeks!!! That's really good to hear! The other suggestions to just login early with DL or even old Passport number (we have a copy of the expired one) are great too. Hadn't thought of that. But as others stated, I could wait till the last minute and still be ok. Just getting excited and would like to do as much upfront as possible. Something about printing off the documents will make it seem all that much closer! :) Thanks for the info everyone!

  7. I just realized my passport was expired and sent in the renewal. I was told the expected wait for renewal is 4 weeks. Our cruise isn't for another 70 days so even if it takes 6 weeks, I'll still get it in time. Question is about "online checkin". In the past we do it early and was told by a TA that it is advisable to more than 30 days out for some Homeland Security thing. Is that true?? We have my wife's passport so she could do the checking with hers. Any thoughts? If there is a delay, is it an issue if we can't do the online checkin two weeks before sailing, etc. Thanks!

  8. I want to do the couples massage on a specific day and in a specific time frame within an hour or two. BUT, just learned that to book a reservation in advance requires full payment up front. Our children are giving us an on board credit for these for Christmas (a little birdie told me) so don't want to pay for them upfront. They are pricey ($300) which is why it's a perfect present BUT not sure if I wait until we board to make reservations, if those time slots will be booked. Forgot to mention so edited this post, it's our first At Sea day. Not sure what to do. It's our 40th Anniversary and I'm trying to make it special. Any advice based on experiences would be greatly appreciated.

  9. Thanks for all the info.

Called the TA and got the run around. Essentially I was "invoiced" for Taxes and Port Charges (which are higher than what RCCL said they should be) and my cabin rate was lowered to cover it. Didn't catch it. BUT I did catch the line item added after the fact for "insurance". I called and had that removed. I will do that on my own. Oh well. Live and learn. Thanks everyone.

  10. I used a TA. Reputable company and I'm a novice at cruises so apparently believed stuff I shouldn't have. Liberty out of Port Lauderdale. Was told my cabin was $510pp and the port charges would be $125 pp and the taxes and additional $102.pp ($227 pp). When I was in the process of booking, I asked why the RCL site was lower and was told because the price I was seeing didn't include port charges. I though "oh, makes sense", so booked. Then learned while speaking with a RCCL rep on another potential booking, that my cabin price might have been low but the taxes and port charges I was told were regulated (Ft. Lauderdale), are in fact LOTS lower than the $227 total pp I was told was a government regulated cost. To the tune of over a $130 pp per RCCL. I feel totally defrauded. Yes, I bought the lie from the TA hook, line, and sinker, but when I heard the words "regulated" and "not in our control", I thought all booking regardless of RCCL or TA booked, would have that same fee. Now I realize they lowered the "cabin" price but jacked up the supposedly "regulated" fees. Not sure what to do or even if there is anything I can do. Feel stupid. Anyone have any thoughts.. and please be gentle? :(

  11. I know in the main dining room, you can select two entrees (or actually do one as an appetizer size). The Portofino menu has quite a few entrees I would like to try that I've never eaten before....but would like a backup for lack of better words. Chops will be easy. Steaks are steaks. But I'd to be adventurous at Portofinos. Does anyone know the policy?? Thanks.

  12. Everyone in our family, men and women both, likes the formal (aka Elegant) Night. Wouldn't want more than 1 per 7 day, but we enjoy dressing up one night. One night of being "festive". Something different. Last cruise my grandson LOVED wearing a suit (only 6 yr old) and behaved like a perfect gentleman ...over the top... the entire evening (must have been something about the suit and tie??). But we enjoy it.

To answer some of your good questions. The ship will provide a 4x5 wooden box [this may requre some pre-training sessions with your dog], it's lined with heavy duty plastic and filled with mulch. The ship will provide everything. I always recommend bringing your own potty bags and pick up the waste after each use [they will provide a receptical.] The box could be placed on an outside deck/in a crew working area or in a stairwell which is my preferred place because it's away from the public.

You may be allergic to my dog, I will do everything I can to keep him away from you. He doesn't bark/ bite/lick/sniff or scratch in public and is a complete gentleman. He has saved my life on many occasions and is truly my hero. You may be missing your own furbaby [the crew always is] and I invite you to pat/lay/play or just plain enjoy my miracle-worker if you choose to.

ANYONE who feeds their Service Dog in the dining room [we, who walk with SD's know NEVER to do this] or allows it to bark where it's disturbing others should be told to put the dog in a crate and pitch them off the ship at the next port. I can't tolerate folks who abuse the system and DON'T do the right thing. Service Dogs should be invisible and to train one to "bark" incessantly to "alert" somone is not only unecessary but is also down-right rude!!!!!!

I have a thread on "Disabled Cruising" on Cruise Critic ~ "Cruising with a Service Dog", which will answer all your good questions. Come on over and join us and thank you for caring.

Thank you Wizard-of-OZ for this much needed insight. A co-worker of mine has helped train puppies/dogs for the blind for years. At some point she'll even bring the dog into the office all day, and as was noted here, these dogs are truly trained to be SERVICE dogs. They are quiet, well-behaved and you would hardly know they are even around. It's amazing how well TRAINED they are. These true SDs are true heroes. The problem lies with people who get their family PETS "certified" and get doctors to write them notes and abuse the system. I've heard stories from my co-worker where "pets" posing as SD's do indeed cause problems by snipping at SDs in restaurants, barking constantly, and the biggie and the red flag that these dogs are just pets... is when they are allowed by their owners to do things no true Service Dog would ever be seen doing (such as being held up at a buffet to lick anything, etc.). Shame, Shame, Shame on these people. Shame. I'm sure they convince themselves they aren't hurting anyone, but the day a blind person finds it difficult to take their own SDs to a restaurant..or on a cruise.. because of the bad behavior of someone's pet, it's a sad, sad day!! If anyone I knew ever pulled this type of fake behavior, friend or family, they would hear the same thing from me... Shame, Shame, Shame. But then those are probably the same people who would park in a handicap parking..with no handicap but a "borrowed" plackard. Regardless, as Wizard-of-Oz has noted, his SD is well behaved, well trained.. and you can spot those amazing animals in a split second. Bravo for those dogs and their trainers, and bravo for owner's like Wizard-of-Oz. Your comments were spot on.
