  1. I am amazed at how many of the questioners are trying to make a day out Majorca a trial !!

On the bus off the bus a whirlwind day out with temperatures in the 90's!!

This public transport plan will not work unless you are able to hit all your bus timings right on the nail and you know where all the bus stops are.

To see more of the island and get Palma in you need to hire a car or choose one or the other.

Thank you for your input, Roger. I'll forgo the trip to Soller and enjoy Palma at a more leisurely pace. Thanks again!

  2. Hi - I was hoping to run my plan past Roger as well. We have a 9 am - 6:30 port stop at the end of August and was thinking to do the following:

Bus #3 to Placa Espana and grab the 210 bus to Soller, walk or tram to Puerto Soller, revers to Soller, and then 210 bus back to Palma. Once there, just wander some of the sights including the Cathedral and around town. Do you think I'll have time to see Bellver Castle as well? Or should I skip Soller and spend the time more leisurely in Palma? I would love to see the scenery on the way to Soller, but don't want to make the day too hectic. Thanks in advance!

  3. That's precisely why I've never taken Costa or MSC before. I booked this one based upon the overlap of the Labor Day holiday to allow me an extra vacation day with limited vacation days from work. Would probably not have chosen it otherwise. Naples is the one stop I really wish was a full day to allow seeing Capri, but that doesn't seem prudent, given the short stop. I just am flummoxed about how to spend the time, given my previous visits to the area.

  4. Thank you, Cruisemom for your input. I'm just bummed that this port stop is so short, since Capri is one of the things in proximity I'd like to do. Do you have any suggestions for alternatives for a short port stop? I've visited several nearby places and have spent time in Naples a couple of times (not my favorite city). I'm struggling to figure out what I want to do while there that makes sense during the short stop. Thanks in advance!

  5. Hi - A friend and I will be on the Costa Fascinosa which as many Costa sailings includes a ridiculously short port stop in Naples. I am not a big fan of Naples and have been there a few times with visits to Sorrento, Positano, Pompeii, Herculaneum, etc. when I've left the city. One thing I've previously missed that I've really wanted to do, is visit Capri. With the port stop being only 7:30 am - 2 pm, I understand it will be a whirlwind. That being said, I want to do it anyway, since I really don't love Naples. I know the hydrofoil takes about 30 minutes, so presuming I can get off the ship ASAP once they start the debarkation process, we plan to hop a hydrofoil to Capri. I found a boat tour that lasts about 2 hours that has the option to transfer boats to see the Blue Grotto. I know that's not guaranteed due to tides and crowds, but am thinking to give it a try. So if we do that and get on one of the earliest hydrofoils, we could theoretically conclude the tour by 10:30 - 11 am and have just a short time before grabbing a hydrofoil back to Naples (presuming we'd purchase a return ticket for 12 pm as soon as we arrive in Capri). Does the boat tour make sense, or would it be advisable instead to do the funicular and just wander a bit (and not try to see the Blue Grotto). I know this will not be a leisurely port stop, but would like to see some of Capri during this stop in Naples. I do wish I had done Capri the last time I was there since that stop was much longer... Any advice given the less than ideal circumstances would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  6. Hi Cruisemom, Thank you for all of the detailed information you've posted! I would love to receive a copy of your Herculaneum notes. I've visited Pompei with a guide a few years back and also visited Positano, Amalfi and Sorrento. I'm planning to take the train to Herculaneum, but am open for other activities later in the day. Do you have any suggestions of how to fill the rest of an 7a-7p port visit, based upon your favorites during your previous visits? If you could email your notes to me at tfechner2693 at gmail, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  7. I will be in Kotor at the beginning of May and would like to see some of the sights without a tour. I'm considering taking a bus to Perast upon arrival and then taking a boat to see the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks, then taking the bus back to Kotor, where we will climb the wall/fortress and then spend time just roaming the old town. Does this sound like a reasonable way to spend the port stop (8am-5pm)? I read the bus ride should last 20 minutes or so each way. Any suggestions for things that shouldn't be missed and will fit into a short port stay would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  8. I, too, had seen positive and negative posts about DYEA Dave, with the few negatives mainly referring to his lack of response. I had been checking on activities / tours for my sailing in July with my 17 year old son, and emailed Dave to ask about his tours yesterday. I received phone call within 20 minutes of sending my email. He said he'd respond to my email to confirm as well, and he did within the hour.

I was considering renting a car and touring the area on our own, but ended up booking a tour with him, as just from our limited conversation, I am very much looking forward to the insight he will be able to offer.
