  1. It was Falmouth. It was very interesting to see the fence around the port, literally a 3 pronged topper. We asked to go through a gate by the water to walk to the end of this peninsula where a catamaran was, but, were stopped by a security guard.

I am sure Jamaica is a beautiful island. It is sad that you don't feel free to wander around.

We have walked Belize, Honduras and Grand Turk, to name a few and never felt unsafe.

I wonder why the cruise ships choose to stop here, if the passengers are so limited to what they can do.

  2. FYI, the exchange between Cayman and US dollars is set on a permanent basis island-wide. That's not just a Calico Jacks up charge. Had you used your credit card, you would have been charged the exact same amount.

I am not sure every restaurant automatically adds the gratuity. But, yes, if we had brought a credit card, we wouldn't have been charged the exchange. We just have gotten into the habit of bringing cash and no credit card on islands

  3. We walked around the port area. We half way thought about walking out the fenced in area, but, met so many people walking right back in. We were told that the aggressive vendors were out in force.

We took pics around Margaritaville and shopped the craft market.

I have to say that craft market was delightful. Normally, although I want to see items and find out about the artists, most of the craft markets are filled with such aggressive vendors; I won't stop to visit. This was not so here. I was able to talk to several shop keepers and they were friendly, of course, wanted to make a sale. But, they were happy to share their art experiences.

Therefore, I bought a painting from a lady that her uncle paints. She told me all about him and the paintings were great. You could tell that they used whatever wood they could find to make the canvases, and the canvas itself was just fabric with gesso on it. Wonderful!

I also bought a wood carving of a fish. The lady in that booth shared how they cut the trees, and even how they make the stain for the carvings. Again, just a great experience.

I would have loved to walk around Falmouth, but, I was happy to be able to learn some of the culture and support the artists.

  4. We went to Mr. Sanchos, $17.00 taxi for 2 or more to get there.

We decided on the pay as you go side, as we aren't interested in a lot of food or drink. We did not pre-book our stay.

It was perfect for us. We walked right up, walked to our chairs/loungers. Met our waiter and that was it. The water was nice and so good for just hanging out. We never went to the swimming pool

The restroom was fine and the showers both inside and outside did the trick.

We ordered chicken nachos and a water. The nachos were wonderful and a big plate fed us both. We moved to a table with chairs for lunch. Again, no problem moving around.

We left right as a storm came in and got back to the port where the sun was shining again

For those that don't want lots of drink and food, it was a very cheap beach day

  5. We exited the port, caught a bus 2 block in. $2.50 pp for the ride, US dollars. Went to the public beach, by Calico Jack's. They immediately offered to rent us chairs and umbrellas. We declined as we had plans to walk to Cemetary Beach.

I noticed that the beach is not very deep, beginning at Calico Jacks. Therefore, it seemed to be crowded. We walked a long time to get to Cemetary Beach. Found 1 piece of sea glass, our purpose. It was so nice to walk a bit, swim a bit and walk more. We did see one stingray, but, not many other fish. There is limited shade, up away from the beach. Unless it is a property, it is allowed to place your towel down.

When we walked back, we showered off at Calico Jack's and had lunch. We had the fish and chips. it was good, although pricey since we paid in cash and were hit with the upcharge. Using a credit card would have changed that.

For every Cayman $1.00, US is $1.25. They also go ahead and add the gratuity to your bill. They do accept US dollars.

We walked a block back to the main street, and caught another public bus (van) back to the port.

This was a very enjoyable day. The beach there is just beautiful

  6. Parked at Lighthouse Parking, lot one. This means you are above street level, and covered. We like that, especially when cruising during hurricane season.

Check in was very quick and the upstairs waiting area nice. On boarding was a bit delayed, due to a huge wedding party. We arrived around 9:30ish, perfect time to beat crowds and lines. Windjammer was crowded, but, we luckily were onboard early enough to beat the crowds and had a relaxing lunch.

Cabin was nice. No room at all to walk around the bed to get in, as we had an inside room, our first choice, deck 8. When the beds are put together, which is comfy with the mattress topper, it leaves absolutely no room to get into the bed other than crawling from the end of the bed. We love inside rooms both for the cost factor and the quietness and dark. Sleep wonderfully.

Food in MDR was good to great. Windjammer just wasn't good. We would find something to eat, but, most items were just not good. Service excellent over the whole ship.

Walked the port only in Jamaica, found the craft market very interesting, and fun to talk to the vendors/craftsmen. Actually bought a small painting and wooden fish carving. We saw lots of folks that walked out the port area and walked right back in. They all stated the aggressive vendors and lots of offers for drugs.

    In Grand Cayman, took

the city bus to public beach, walked to cemetery beach and back. Lunch at Calico Jack's, and it was good. Only $2.50 to ride the bus (van)

Went to Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel, PAYG side and it was perfect for us. Did order nachos and they were super! Nice and relaxing there.

Shows were excellent and we enjoyed them. Lots of people on the ship, but, truly did not feel crowded at all.

We needed more time to take in all we wanted to do.

Agree on the sales and tables in the promenade, too crowded and loud

    for

what could be a nice place to hang out.

Cruisers were pleasant and very, very few children at all. Those that were there were just delightful.

It took us only 8 minutes to leave the ship. We did not choose self debark, as we understood it is the busiest, we have always done self debark before. We did not have them take our luggage, instead spent that last day, Saturday, enjoying ourselves. Had breakfast Sunday, came back to the cabin, packed and just relaxed. Left the cabin with our luggage at 9, followed our instructions to meet. We waited until our number was called, rolled our luggage and out the door. It gave us a very relaxing end to our vacation.

We would like to see better food in the Windjammer, because sometimes it just takes too long to eat at the MDR breakfast and lunch.

We would also like to see more classes offered. We weren't able to make it to the dance classes at all. They have some free exercise classes but are just at

odd times. We did go work out once and the gym is great, along with the showers.

We did go to the cooking class, it was nice, but, seemed to be more about advertising the specialty restaurants.

I did attempt to go to the scrapbooking class, but, they didn't actually have anything there, except stuff to buy. I wish I could have made it to the jewelry making class, but, again, timing prevented that.

We danced at both Star Lounge and Olive and Twist and enjoyed that.

We played shuttleboard and putt putt golf. Both were fun and no crowds

We enjoyed the pool and hot tub in the solarium area.

Overall, it was a wonderful cruise. We had perfect weather which allowed us to do what we planned at the ports. The rains that did come were afternoon rains that didn't disrupt our time.

We brought our 2 bottles of wine onboard, and actually won one bottle at the M&M, which was a nice affair.

Attended the 70's disco party on the promenade and it was great fun. Attended the champagne captains reception and it was nice also.

  7. Where did you find them? Or do you have a link to what they look like? The way you describe them sounds really pretty and practical!

I actually found these at Burke's. It is a smallish store close to my office. I think one of the brands is "Counterparts" ?.

They are just so comfortable, super nice looking and so versatile. I spend most everyday in a dress or skirt. So, these are just a great addition. I even wore the navy one to my office....no one ever knew :) I had on a nice short sleeve jacket, with wedges and nice jewelry.

I would love to find a black pair like these. The other nice thing is they are stretchy, but, keep their shape.

  8. Yes, I have had the cotton type skorts, will be carrying a black one on the cruise, but, probably wouldn't wear that to MDR. But, these new ones, yes, a gabardine fabric is what they are made of, are just wonderful. They are fully a skirt.

With the navy one, I am going to wear a gold and lace top to MDR. During the day, it will be paired with a printed t shirt.

With the bright blue and white, I will wear a navy lace top to the MDR and during the day, a white T.

All of my skorts come to right above my knee, which is a good look for me.

Glad to hear others are finding them a good choice for cruising.:)

  9. I usually pack a nice pencil skirt, dark, to wear nightly, not for elegant night, with multiple tops. I also carry a couple of dresses and my usual 2 cocktail dresses.

However, I found some super nice skorts, nice length, out of a dressy fabric. I am just thrilled with them. I bought a navy one and brighter blue and white flowered one. Super comfortable and with the type of fabric will work with a dressy top for nightly dinners and then, can be use used with a t shirt for day wear. With the navy I have a beige lace top that would look super. With the blue/white flowered, I will have a blue lace top.

This will really help with less to pack!

  10. Yes, I know, just by pass it. But, is there a usual replacement? Another side to the island?

I just want to be able to research other options that could be presented based on docking/tendering ability

    Thanks
