  1. Thanks all for your opinions.  We were able to change to a later flight,  Unfortunately we don't leave until 3:30 now, so we will have a lot of time on our hands.  I think its better than rushing and not making the fight though.

  2. My daughter made flight reservations for 9:25 a.m. and our ship docks at 7 a.m.  The price has gone up quite a lot in one day.  Will we have enough time to get to the airport for our flight from Miami to Orlando if we take our bags with us in the morning?  Azamara suggest a flight no earlier than 11 a.m.

  3. June will be cool maybe rainy...July a tad warmer. You'll have more tourists in July but the June cruise will be the beginning of tourist season as well.

Another thing to consider flight costs to Amsterdam as opposed to England (and then transport to Southampton).

Do both have the same itinerary? What days are you in St. Petersburg? How long are you port times for each port? Are you planning on Berlin or just staying the area of Warnemunde because the castle at Schwerin is closed on Mondays. These are just a few things to consider.

They have slightly different itineraries. The Silhouette goes to Belgium and has 3 days in SPB

  4. We are looking at the June 19, 2018 Eclipse or the July 21, 2018 SIlhoutte cruise to the Baltics. The Silhoutte is a 14 day cruise and leaves from Southhampton and Eclipse is 12 days and leaves from Amsterdam. Any opinions on which cruise is better? I have been on both ships, so it is the itinerary and the month of the season we were wondering about.

  5. I have researched both areas, but I have not been able to make a decision on what to do when tendered in Akaora. I would like to see The Giant House and walk through the town, but thought I might like to go to Christchurch. My question is, since the earthquake is it still worthwhile taking the 90 minute trip back and forth to see Christchurch or would it be more worthwhile spending my time in Akaora? We are seniors in our 60's going on the Solstice in January.

  6. We are seasoned cruises and have been to almost all of the Caribbean islands. We were in Antigua a very long time ago and did a tour instead of a beach day. My questions is which beach would be best for my wife? We are active seniors, but my wife had a hip replacement several years ago and would not be comfortable at a beach with a steep drop off beach. A slight one would be ok. We love Orient Beach (St. Martin), Magen's Bay and Emerald Bay (St. Thomas), The Palm Resort Beach (Grand Cayman's) which had a slight drop off, but she was ok with it, to name a few. We would rent chairs and an umbrella, eat lunch and need restrooms. We don't want secluded, we enjoy being around others. We will be in port Saturday, September 9 from 8-4.

    Thank you

  7. It depends on how many passengers. We are a family of 5 so for us it makes sense to just rent a van. We usually fly into FLL...stay somewhere between FLL and Miami and then head over to the port. The same is true on the way back. We purposely book a later flight in case there is a delay and we like to spend the day sightseeing in florida. So we rent a van again.

It is just two of us.

  8. Ok it is going to be much cheaper and a much quicker flight if we fly into and out of Fort Lauderdale. We fly in on Sunday the day before Labor Day.

1)We thought we would stay in Fort Lauderdale and then Uber or share a shuttle from The Hyatt Pier 66 to the POM. Our flight home is on a Friday, but does not leave until 8 P.M.

How much will all the Ubers, shuttles or taxis cost us from Ft. Lauderdale airport to hotel, hotel to POM and then returning POM to Fort Lauderdale airport?

2)Would it be easier and cheaper to just go straight from the Fort Lauderdale airport to a hotel in Miami Beach and then taxi to POM the next morning?

3)Should we just fly into and out of Miami?

The difference in flights is about $285.00 and 2 extra hours.

  9. How many days is your cruise?

The current disadvantage to Staten Island is that the Bayonne Bridge is frequently closed, which means any hotel shuttle has to drive back to NJ past the airport to get to Cape Liberty. That's a PITA. In addition you pay up to a $15 Toll eastbound just to get to Staten Island.

The best deal at the airport is Trinityreservations.com - Ramada Plaza - room, parking, and port shuttle for just over $200 including all taxes.

    Our cruise is 14 days.

  10. We are driving in from Pittsburgh and looking to stay at a hotel the night before our cruise. Staten Island seems to have a few hotels that let you park for free if you stay at the hotel. They also have free shuttles to and from the port. There are also hotels near the airport that let you park for free, although they are about $100 more for the rooms. What are the advantages and disadvantages of one area over the other?

    Thank You

  11. There are 6 of us driving from Pittsburgh in a rental van on September 17th. We will probably get in around 2 or 3 p.m. Jersey City looks like a nice area to spend the afternoon and evening hours, but the Newark airport area would do too. We would eat dinner and then have a light breakfast before the cruise. We need 3 rooms with about a $200-250 budget. I know we will be able to drop off the van at the airport, but not sure if we could do it somewhere closer to Jersey City. Not sure they will then drive us that far from the airport. Then we are reserving a van for the trip home. Again I need to research where we would do this near the port or the airport.

Any info for the above statements would be great. We are all seniors and AAA members.

Would it be $35 pp from Newark area or Jersey City area? We thought we would take a minivan cab for 6 people or 2 cabs with 3 people each in them.

  12. Yes, I am sure you can. We actually took ferry to Pointe du Bout walked to Anse Mitan and took ferry back from there.

We are debating on stopping in Pointe du Bout to shop a little or just go straight to Anse Mitan? Was it worth stopping inPointe du Bout? Do you take a ferry from there to Anse Mitan or is it walkable?

  13. I would absolutely do this again. The area we found, the only place to have lunch was at the cute little bar by the beach. (although, I think you could have eaten at the hotel, but that might have been a little pricey). At the bar thingy, the only thing they had were panninis,(?) which were huge and affordable. If you stay at the area where the ferry first docks, there are a few restaurants right on the beach, I think if you walked to the street side, there is probably we more. We ventured off of that beach, to a different area. The area we were at was very calm, crystal clear water, kind of like a marina. If you look to the left when you are headed to the beach on the ferry, you will see a little marina area, that is where we ended up. If I went again, I might stay on the ferry to Anse Mitan, but being the first time, and not much English speaking, Pointe du Bout felt like enough of an adventure! Also, we thought we would go into town when we got back, that was a waste, I would just go right back to the ship. I have no idea how to post a picture, or else I would!

Did you walk around the town in Pointe Du Bout? I was wondering if we should stop there on the way to or back from the beach or was it not worth it?

  14. That's a good rate. I wish we could get something like that, but our cruise is in July and the price of that hotel is $330-$370 then (nearly $400 with tax). Prices double in mid-summer.

Hey, I know you from the Asia 2014 Millennium cruise. You helped me a lot on my Visa. I finally met you at a trivia game. Did you get your things back from the hotel in H.K. that you forgot?

We got a good deal at The Paramount Hotel in Seattle. Going on a Celebrity cruise to Alaska the week before Memorial Day.

  15. I just can't decide between theses two hotels. One is older and on Pine. The other is newly renovated and on 5th. The Motif boasts views of the sound from the room. It is about $50 more a night, but that doesn't concern me if the view is as nice as the hotel describes. Anyone having stayed at these hotels have any opinions or recommendations of one over the other?

  16. We will be in Seattle 2 days pre-cruise and 2 days post-cruise. We are looking for good seafood and Asian restaurants for dinner. We love trying different foods and are somewhat adventurous. We love Chinese, Thai, Korean, but not so much Japanese foods. Don't want to break the bank, but will be glad to do one night with something more expensive up to $100-$150 pp or so. We will not have a car and are staying at the Grand Hyatt pre-cruise and the Sheraton post cruise.

Looking forward to spending time in Seattle.
