  1. Since you’re not getting any feedback...

We will be there next month and several on the boards have advised using the Beat - Ride app, which is supposed to work like Uber. The reviews are good so I downloaded and plan to use during our port day.

    Thank you!

  2. Something similar has been often proposed. Those who prefer formal nights insisted that it would disrupt their dinner tables since some would want to dress casual and some formal. They also protested that the sight of those dressed casually would destroy the 'ambiance' of the evening. Frankly, those who like formal nights do not find compromise a viable option.

I guess for some change is difficult or nearly impossible. Sigh......it's 2018, time is moving forward. I think you should wear what makes you comfortable. I'm not going on a cruise to impress other cruisers. And you never know others background. I really dont care who wears what, formal night or not. It seems cruise lines are feeling that way more and more too

  3. I saw a few people on my cruise enter the main dining room in cut off short shorts. It did not affect my meal with my family one bit. These people were clean and well mannered. They seemed to be enjoying their vacation.

For me, my cruise was about spending quality time with my family and enjoying their company. the conversations we had at dinner were memorable. So much so that I didn't even give a thought to what people were wearing in the MDR.

It was nice to see these families get together for a meal. When I got up to use the restroom, I saw a bunch of happy faces and people enjoying themselves.

With all the ugliness in this world and busy lives we lead everyday, it was nice to see so many families enjoying each other no matter what they were wearing.

To each their own and everyone should wear what they feel appropriate.

Thanks for starting this thread & relaying your observations!

  4. Hi all,

I will be taking my first Mediterranean cruise (and first visit to the Mediterranean ever) in May 2019. Previously I have only cruised the Caribbean from Ft Lauderdale and once from Tampa. We will be leaving from Civitavecchia. The cruise leaves on a Monday Morning and I am flying into Rome on Wednesday afternoon. My question for the experts: Should I spend the whole time exploring Rome and travel to Civitavecchia early on the morning of the cruise (if I did this option I would take a limo for ease of travel) or should I leave for Civitavecchia on Sunday and spend the night in a hotel there?

I have booked a hotel for now in Civitavecchia on Sunday night (refundable of course) but I am sacrificing a day in Rome for doing this. Initially I thought this would make for a less busy morning on the day of the cruise, but now I am wondering if I would be better off spending an extra day in Rome (giving me three full days in Rome in addition to the day that I arrive there) or is Civitavecchia worth spending a day in (and leaving me two days in Rome). If I do travel on the day of the cruise, I’d leave Rome by 9 or 10AM unless you think that is too risky.

I would love to hear your suggestions/ opinions please. The good news is that I have plenty of time to plan!! Thanks.

Rome!! Many more options (things to do and see in city or near by) Enjoy!

  5. We arrive in FCO 3 days before our cruise. We do not wan to go to Rome, so we thought about going straight to Civitavecchia. How do we get there from FCO? Is there enough to do for 3 days? Thank you for your help! :D

What about 2 nights in the Florence/Tuscany area???

  6. There is never a shortage or lack of food to eat at any time. There was a lack of variety/change from day to day at breakfast and lunch with a bit more variety/change at dinner in the Buffet. Which is what I already posted. The quality of the food was very good. Not ever did I ever see Ramen noodles. In the MDR the food and service were excellent. We were a party of 6 for anytime dining on the nights we ate in the MDR.

  7. Just off the 10 day yesterday also. We had a great time. The ship was spotless. The crew was wonderful. In the MDR the food was excellent. In Horizon Court the food was very good but as others have said there was not a huge rotation in the variety for breakfast or lunches. A bit more for dinner. We enjoyed all the production shows, comedy and music talent.

  8. Maybe after a few days, "not the day of", we will have more information about what and why. The fact about anything you purchase is you may not pay the same as someone or everyone else. Passengers on the same cruise, having an identical room may not pay the same amount. Last minute "pack and go" most likely pay significantly less than other passengers. Is that fair? If you are the "pack and go" passenger you most likely think it's not only fair but fabulous.

    Perception is reality.

In a few days perhaps we will have more information. In the mean time maybe give all the cruise lines the benefit of doubt.

  9. Back on board time was 4:30. We got into the tender line at 2:30. Really wished it could have been a longer port time (Who doesn't, huh??). And in addition to passengers they had to tender crew and supplies both ways too. Alot to do. A very "paradise" day, beautiful beach :)

  10. Half Moon Cay beach is really nice. The tender process sucks. It is a short tender ride but we waited over an hour each way. That really cut into beach time. Also the food the serve at the BarBQ was horrible. Wilted slad bar and crappy barbq that had been sitting out. No other food choices due to private island. Again the beach is prestine tho. Glad to hit this stop once but wouldn't book another cruise to see this port. Grand Turk is just as nice beach and you can walk right off the boat and be on the beach in 15 minutes and the same on returning to the boat.

The wait time for the tenders back to ship could be a BIG factor for older passengers, young passengers and those easily effected by sun/heat. The reason being: The line you wait in for the tenders back to ship are/were in the direct Caribbean sun. There was no shade, no misters to wait in. We stood there for about 30 minutes, the day was very hot and humid (duh). Not really a complaint, just something people need to be aware of. I really felt for some passengers. :(

Typhoon1 says make lemonade out of lemons, but this is something passengers need to be aware of, just a fact.
