  1. Obviously we are not seeing every free available on the royal site but I found something interesting. Lower decks have fewer balconies available. For the decks that say ‘only X left’ I’m assuming agents still could hold some of these.

    These are the balconies that remain (deluxe and superior mixed): deck 7 (10), deck 8 (9) ,deck 9 (11), deck 10 (4) , deck 11 (15), deck 12, (15), deck 13 (14).

So is this skewed because I’m not seeing all available cabins or do people really prefer the lower decks since more upper are available. I also realize dispersion of other categories may have skewed this but I didn’t take the time to analyze.

does royal have PCCs like NCL does. So you can call and ask for all available cabins in whatever section you want?

i also see some angled balconies and assume thats a universal 'jackpot' if you score one for the same price as a balcony.

Interestingly, when I look at the website of a large online travel agency there are a lot more cabins available than on RCI's website, so they must not show everything. You may want to see what a travel agent has available.

  2. Just booked a 5 night Bermuda cruise in October 2017 with Traditional Late Dining. Here's what the reservation shows.

"Dinner Seating: Dynamic Dining Classic lets you enjoy reserved seating and choose between two dining times in a preset lineup of restaurants. 08:15 PM"

  3. We were on the LOS September 19 sailing (prior to opening of the new garage). Parking was a breeze. Drove up the day before and stayed at the Marriott Courtyard in Newark (took the NJ Transit train into NY that evening and saw a show; $5.00 each way). Drove to the port in the morning arriving around 11:20; no traffic issues (it was a Saturday). Everything was well-organized. Dropped off luggage and proceeded to parking. Maybe a 2-3 minute walk back to the terminal, but there are also shuttles. We were on the ship at noon. Disembarkation was just as easy. We were off the ship and on the road in no time.

  4. Which Celebrity ship?

We were on the Summit from NJ twice and was very surprised with the quality and quantity of live music all over the ship. Every lounge you passed through in the evenings had someone performing. The entertainment was outstanding. It was far from boring, and in fact, it was more fun than we've experienced on many RCI ships. The onboard atmosphere was NOT sedate at all, and the demographics were not old. Dining room service and food were about the same as RCI, but the buffet on Summit was not as good as the WJ.

We were on LOS last month and Celebrity Summit a couple years ago. Both were very enjoyable, but the lack of live music on LOS was a big disappointment. We enjoyed having a drink and relaxing before and after dinner in various venues with live music on Summit. Was nonexistent on LOS other than an awful pianist/vocalist in the Schooner bar. Most live music didn't start until 10 pm. Also, there was a lack of live music in the pool area. Mostly a DJ, which really wasn't our cup of tea.

We were on Summit during spring break time, so it may have been a younger than usual crowd. There was always a lot going on. Not sedate at all.

  5. Has the Dockyard opened up for cruise ships, or did it sustain too much damage from Joaquim?

The port webcam is down, and only showing storm videos.

    Norwegian Breakaway is there now.

  6. We went to 2 performances of In The Air, 2 of Sat Night Fever, and the Ice Show, the last day of our Sept 19th 5 night to Bermuda and just walked into every performance. Don't know if it was different for other performances or shows, but that's what we found.

Also on Sept. 19 sailing. We went to the late showing on the first day of the ice show and there were plenty of seats. Got there maybe 15 minutes beforehand. In fact, there were plenty of seats at all the shows we went to. The most crowded seemed to be the late night comic. We had traditional dining late seating and went to shows accordingly. Not sure how crowded the early seating time shows were.

  7. Thanks so much! I'll do that. I'm mainly using it to communicate via text on board w/ another family traveling with us.

I plan to turn Cellular Data completely off. I was just looking in settings for the background refresh you mentioned, but I don't see that anywhere. Under the App & iTune Store (in General Settings), I see where I can opt to "use cellular data". Is that what you're talking about? If not, where can I turn off the background refresh?

    Settings:General:Background App Refresh

  8. This is odd. I have Verizon as well, and just went to their website to learn more. Under the "cruise ship" plan description, there's a link view the list of cruise lines where this plan is available. Royal isn't listed at all. ??

Search by ship name, e.g., "Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas." Just used it on 9/19 LOS sailing to Bermuda. Worked great, but data gets used up quickly, so keep it turned off unless needed. Also, if you have an iPhone, turn off Background Refresh for your apps.

  9. We don't use the mini bar either but was wondering if by accident, the mini bar was shorted an item and the person for the next cruise gets charged. I might do an inventory of the items then see what the count is at the end of the cruise.

We were still there when the minibar person came through for the final check. I told him we hadn't used it and he didn't say anything to the contrary at the time. However, we were then charged $9.75 extra. Maybe the wrong room number got entered someplace.

  10. We were on the 9/19 sailing. No tickets were needed. We showed up about 15 minutes before the 4:00pm show on the first sea day and there were plenty of seats. In fact, every show we went to during the cruise had plenty of seating (the upper tier of the Platinum Theater on Deck 4 was rarely needed). The largest crowd was for the late night comic, who was very good.

  11. Just off LOS (9/19/15) yesterday. Embarkation was surprisingly quick and easy. Arrived at Cape Liberty about 11:20am. Dropped luggage and DW at terminal, parked the car, and walked back to terminal. After going through security was greeted and directed to Gold 9 line. Maybe a 10 minute wait in line. After completing check-in, proceeded up the escalator and directly onto the ship at exactly 12 Noon, a mere 40 minutes after arrival. Did not see any numbers being given out.

Disembarkation at Cape Liberty was equally quick and easy. Very well organized.
