  1. We just took a cruise a few weeks ago.

The 'fun" train is located at the end of the main road which is a very short walk from the port. I think tt was 6 euro roundtrip. It makes 2 stops - a winery and the beach. We took it round trip to the beach . This was a fabulous day and very inexpensive:)

  2. Just got back.

Montenegro and Croatia were my favorite ports of all. Are you a Game of Thrones fan? Even if not, the Game of Thrones tour were pretty good.

In Dubrovnik we walked the city walls and saw the Game of Thrones sites. Good for active folks as lots and lots of walking.

In Montenegro we did the Lady of the Rock boat tour and loved it. It also included a walking tour inside the city walls. One of my favorite days.

In Split, we did the Game of Thrones Mareen castle and Dragon's Dungeon. Once again, a fabulous day. I would recommend it.

Thanks for the suggestions. We will be there in less than 2 weeks .

  3. This posted before I hit to post and I can't figure out how to delete it. I was in the middle of writing the title

I received this letter from NCL today

    Just an FYI

  4. Thank you for choosing Norwegian Star for your vacation at sea.

As a company, we continuously aim to offer an enhanced experience for all our guests. As part of this commitment, we strive to provide a world-class product consistent throughout our fleet. Norwegian Star has recently undergone enhancements to better serve our guests.

We have converted the children's pool area to an exclusive adults-only experience with the introduction of Spice H2O in the aft of the ship. This new space adds another relaxation area on board. In addition, the main pool deck has been slightly modified with the removal of the water slides, offering a more open space for guests of all ages to enjoy.

Dedicated children activities will remain available with the Splash Academy and Teen Club.

We feel confident that these guest-facing enhancements will better serve your overall experience with us, and look forward to welcoming you on board very soon.

  5. Hi all

I appreciate all of your advice.

I am going to look into renting a car , I hope I can find a place in Lake Como area to rent (do not want to have to go to Milan if we can avoid it on that day )

marazul thanks for the laugh with your reference to Rte 4 in Paramus ,GWBridge and shore traffic. We deal with all of those frequently.

    thanks again

  6. We will be stopping in Dubrovnik and Split on our cruise in July. In Dubrovnik we are doing a tour of the city walls. My teenage kids would like to do something very different in Split like rafting in Omis.

I did a search on here but there isn't any information. I did see on tripadvisor they offer excursions but prefer to hear from my fellow cruisers on here for any input regarding ideas and who to use.

    Thank you

  7. We are staying in Lake Como a few days before our cruise from Venice.

We are leaving Lake Como the morning of the cruise to board the Star in Venice.

I tentatively booked a private driver who said we can stop in Bergamo or Verona for 1.5 hours on the way.

It all sounds so good but it is very expensive.

Please advise if you have taken a train or rental car from Lake Como to Venice

    My concerns ;

Train - Since we do not speak Italian I am concerned that we may have some issues finding the correct train in Milan.

Rental car - difficult roads for driving and difficulty returning car and then getting to the port with all of our luggage.

thanks for any advice you can offer.

  8. I can't answer re Lake Lucerne, but I love Lake Como. We stopped there before our Venice cruise. It was an easy train trip from Milan to Lake Como, then 3 days later train to Venice. Area is beautiful. Lots of gardens to explore. The lake is surrounded by Italian Alps for awesome natural beauty, and if you like hiking there's a never ending variety of trails. Take ferry from town to town to explore several of the lovely little towns.

herbanrenewal we are staying in Lake Como before our cruise from Venice in July. How did you get to Venice from Lake Como.

I have booked a private driver but it is very expensive.

Thanks for your help. I just saw that you took the train. Was that difficult ?

  9. One of the very best tours we ever did with our kids (late teens at the time) was a day out on Monty B in Kotor. It's a yacht which is the home of a British couple (and their dog). We sailed around the bay exploring different areas, jumped off the side of the boat, had lunch onboard and Tim (the owner) took hundreds of pictures which he copied onto a disc for us. A truly memorable day which our kids still talk about http://www.montenegro4sail.com/

Wow, that sounds great Bobal. I am going to look into it. We are sailing on the Star on July 1st.

    Thank you

  10. I am looking for help from people who have sailed on the Star.

I am making a photo scavenger hunt game for my family to play on our Sea Day while we are on the Star in July.

I have compiled a list but would like to add some specific ideas for the Star. The ages range from 16 - 50+

    Thanks for your help

Here is my current list- take photos of the following. If you are in any photos you earn more points.

    Port hole

    golf club

    lifeboat

    Drink umbrella

A board game and/or the title of a book with a blue cover (in the library)

    Something“bubbly”

    Drink ofthe day sign

    Doormarked "Crew Only"

Photo of your team showing your reflection in something other than a mirror

Something with the name of the ship on it.

    Something“breathtaking”

  11. Can you check out books or do you need to stay in there to read? Do they have a good selection ? Has anyone spent anytime in there? Did you like the room ?

I hope I didn't ask too many questions. Since we have a few avid readers in our group it would be great to let them know what to expect.

    Thank you

  12. My husband is working on this one. You can just about see to the left, the Moby Drea, which is where a lot of contractors are sleeping during the dry dock. He's been away 8 weeks now, hopefully only another 2 and he will be home. CANNOT wait!!

Oh wow - that can't be easy for you ;) Hope the next few weeks go by quickly for you .

Do you have any specifics as to what they are working on ?

  13. Hi everyone - thanks for the additional replies . I wanted to give a little more info -

It is being offered for $109 each.

    this is the description -

    UNLIMITEDDuration

The Thermal Suite is a passage toward ultimate relaxation. Here, heat and water work together to relax and rejuvenate you. Based on the concept of Turkish baths, where friends and family can spend the day relaxing. Relax tight muscles and improve your circulation in the Thalasso Therapy Pool. Water, when moving, stimulates the touch receptors on the skin, increasing blood circulation and releasing tight muscles. Purify your body by sweating it out in the dry heat of the sauna as the temperature elevates to a maximum of 185°F. Head to the steam room to soothe joints, alleviate pains, raise your metabolism and boost your immune system. The bubbling of the hot tub is particularly soothing, helping you relax mentally and physically. Even get a reflexology massage by placing your feet directly in front of the water jets. If you prefer your relaxation lying down, the heated mosaic lounge chairs’ gentle, radiant warmth is ideal.

  14. Any feedback from experienced cruisers on this itinerary on Epic would be very welcome! Roll Call is pretty much all people trying to join or get people to join their off-ship excursions, so not really the nuggets of wisdom I am looking for.

Sailing out of Barcelona on the Epic - first time on the Epic, and first time in the Med! Have a family all-day excursion planned off-ship for Rome to make it theee longessst day, but it is definitely packing it all in. Other than that, I was noting how much pricier the excursions are to book on the ship for seemingly just a cab ride somewhere and back, with a 20 min. ride to a destination but it's still an 8-10 hour day.

So, I am wondering what ports - Naples, Florence, Majorca, Cannes - would it be easy to take a jaunt off the ship and kind of just check things out. Or if there's anything that is a must-see at any of those places. I am all about the Neapolitan pizza, in addition to history, art and literature. I am just amazed to be going.

However, I would like to strike a balance between seeing these beautiful cities but not feeling like I have been jamming in every possible activity in each port to the detriment of having a relaxing vacation - which is also much-needed.

Thanks in advance for anything you have to contribute! :D

We sailed this exact cruise 3 years ago and loved it !!!

Naples -We hired a Private tour to Amalfi Coast

Rome - Private tour of all the sights including the Vatican.

Livorno - (After the longest day in Rome) we rented a car at the port and drove to Leaning Tower of PIsa and then to a beach. We needed a relaxing day and a break.

Majorca- took a bus to a wonderful beach (highlight of our trip)

Cannes - half the family stayed at the beach near port and the other half took a train to Nice. We all enjoyed our day immensely.

You should check out each port on this board for a wealth of information

    Enjoy !
