  1. Side note on the beer. On my last 2 cruises the beer was NEVER COLD. the only way to get cold beer was to order a bucket and let it sit for 15 min. before you had the first one. Sometimes when I didn't want a full bucket I would find someone who was drinking the same beer and offer to split a bucket. Most times that just turned into a buy back session, a new friend, and a pissed off wife.

  2. We were on the Gem in early February and noticed that not all bars carried all beers. Hubby quickly fiigured out which ones had Molson Canadian.

The bar at the Orchid Garden also had Sapparo which they didn't sell anywhere else on the ship. They may have had other Japanese beers but I didn't pay close attention.

    Sapparo....hot sake.....raw fish....I may never leave!

  3. richm20, you're having way too much fun with this.....

Oh, and if I'm your neighbor, I'd be happy to share a cocktail and cigar with you as long as some jerk on the balcony next to us doesn't ruin it by lighting up a nasty smelling cigarette..... :)

    ...stupid cigarettes... LOL

  4. If you are at the bow, the wind will be blowing the stench from your cigars backward and the entire ship will have the dubious pleasure of smelling them.

    DON

Im sure you ore OK with NCL's policy that allows me to smoke a cigarette on my balcony? Obviously that wont affect anyone, only a cigar!

  5. If you are at the bow, the wind will be blowing the stench from your cigars backward and the entire ship will have the dubious pleasure of smelling them.

    DON

Sorry Don, I have to disagree.

My concern is with my neighbors, not people behind me. There is NO WAY smoke from my balcony will reach the sides of the ship.

  6. Honestly people, relax and get a grip. The question was not is it allowed, is it ok, can I get away with it, the question was DO YOU THINK THE NEIGHBORS CAN SMELL IT AND OR BE OFFENDED.

Some have said they think the neighbors can smell it, thank you. Others perhaps have a different opinion. I respect everyone opinion.

Simply saying that it will offend my neighbors and basing that solely on NCL's rules is not an honest opinion.

On the small balconies in balcony rooms I can ABSOLUTELY understand why cigar smoking is a no, no. I'm actually amazed that cigarette smoking is allowed. I would never consider lighting up on that balcony. The reason I asked the question is because the foward SE balconie is HUGE, we had 15 people on it with plenty of room to spare. The way its situated would make it very hard for smoke to make its way to the neighbors although the cabins on deck 10 may be impacted more then I would like. So i asked a question, that's all, just a question. I already know the policy, no need to point that out.

  7. you can smoke cigarettes, pipes and cigars outside on open decks (just not around food venues, sport decks, kids' pool areas and other designated non-smoking areas)

    From the NCL Website.

Also if your Balcony is on an open deck the way it is written you can also smoke a cigar there. There are only a few rooms that have that situation.

Actually the new policy says no cigars or pipes on the balcony.

Just going to have to light up and ask the neighbor, if they come out, if they can smell it. Again, im sure they cant and im kind of sure they will just want to come over for a cocktail and a smoke :D

  8. It doesn't matter whether I've been on that balcony, and I don't give a hoot which way the wind is blowing. It's against NCL's rules and anyone with even an iota of respect for their fellow cruisers won't smoke a cigar out there.

Why bother to ask the question if you have no intention of paying attention to the answer.

You obviously think you're above following the rules.

    Thanks, I value your opinion.

  9. My only advice is that the bow penthouse cabins are waaay too windy for the proper enjoyment of a cigar. I am not certain, but I think NCL has changed their policy for smoking of cigars on balconies.

When in doubt, read the onboard dailies, it is always in the fine print where you can and cannot smoke cigars and cigarettes.

That being said, that kind of question posted here will predictably attract nasty replies from those of very strong opinion and self importance.

Put on you fireproof suit, light up a cigar, sit back and enjoy the ride as you watch this thread develop.

Yes, the policy is no cigar smoking on balconies however cigarette smoking is allowed (Dont understand that one, my wife HATES smokers. I was one for 20yrs, and she hates the smell but a cigar she can put up with)

As far as the wind, we actually dont find it windy at all. We have been at sea where the decks were windy as anything but our balcony was calm. I think its the way the wind blows over the shape of the balcony. If I went up to the railing, it would be blowing but as I went back close to the door there was nothing. We are on deck 9, I think deck 10 SE's are more 'exposed'

Anyway, with the size of the actuall balcony and the design of the ship I really don't think anyone will complain, but I will be sure to ask my neighbors. Im somewhat confident that as soon as I ask, I will have a smoking buddy.

  10. I know that technically the only place to smoke a cigar on the ship is the cigar lounge, correct?

Now, we are in a deck 9 penthouse on the bow. The balcony has a ton of space including a lot of privet seating. Do you think the cabins to either side would even smell my cigar, let alone be offended by it of I were to smoke on the balcony while we are under way?
