  1. We were recently in the Haven on the Getaway. We were told that the only person who can eat in the Haven who had not paid to be in the Haven, was the Captain, and only on port days.

To be clear, we were asking if our son could eat with us in the Haven and he is a cast member in one of the shows on the Getaway. So I am still not sure if they said that because he was a cast/crew member or if the same rule applies to paying guests outside the Haven as well. You might ask the concierge when you get on board and see what they say.

(The reason I am not sure who that rule applies to is because the concierge first said it would cost $35 for him to eat in there, then she stopped herself and said she would have to check. The answer came back as noted above.)

We were in the Haven on the Escape, and a solo cabin for my oldest daughter, she was able to est with us for a fee. On a smaller ship when we were in a Suite but not a Haven, our daughter a crew member working during our cruise, was able to get permission to eat with us at any meal. With crew members it is a case by case situation.

  2. Well I hope everyone has a good time. There are about 700 people on the ship not counting the crew. Who ever chartered the ship decided that the crew/cast members that are left could not come out of their area for the entire 10 days (except of course when they are working)! They are not allowed in the passenger areas at all. They are stuck. It is going to be like a ghost ship. I hope the rule is changed for the crew's/cast members sake! They are still very excited to be going to Rio tho regardless!

My daughter also works on the ship, it should be an interesting 10 days. I don't think it will change, but many of the crew members aren't allowed in passengers area anyways. For the ones who can go into passenger areas(both our kids), this will be a huge change. What an amazing experience for our kids.

  3. Just making a [valid] point here, what if the game had gone into three, four, or five OTs? At what point would it have been OK to go ahead and get the planned activities started? There is always another side/point of view to every story.

The crew member who was in charge of the activity most likely did not make the schedule, but it is their job to follow it. I am sure without consent of their boss, they can't just change the schedule. I agree it could have been handled differently, but the crew member, probably could not make that call.

  4. Very long story but was meant to be a cruise with just hubby & me in oceanview on deck 13 on the Breakaway THIS sunday (March 27th).

Now plans changed & last minute we have to bring our twin 10yr old girls along. Told us no cabins left that hold 4 people. So hubby switched to a balcony guarantee.

Balcony guarantee got assigned yesterday & it is a spa balcony on deck 14. So he does get the spa pass & gets UBP. He is happy. I am not!

How the heck do we coordinate getting ready for dinner, sleeping etc when split between 2 cabins on 2 decks? This was meant to be our 15th wedding anniversary cruise & we can't even sleep in the same bed now!

NCL is saying there are no oceanviews on deck 14 and all spa cabins only sleep 3 max? Is this true?

We also have different boarding times. I have 10.30am, hubby & one daughter have 12.30pm and other daughter has 1.30pm. Can we all board at 10.30am do you think?

Such a mess. Not sure how we can get a cabin together though and NCL is only showing haven available. :(

You can all sleep in the same cabin at night, they don't do bed checks. You will both be able to keys to each cabin. Your muster station stays the same, but you can sleep in either cabin.

  5. We just got back from the Dawn on March 6th, we loved Richard! Really enjoyed all the entertainment on the boat. Don't miss the big shows every night. The comedy group 2nd city was excellent! In addition to the nightly show they had a couple of smaller shows that were worth going to as well. We enjoyed the Frank Sinatra tribute singer he has a daytime show on the last sea day. Richard the cruise director's assistants Cristiana, Bama, and Favio did great jobs with the smaller events in the Spinacle lounge. Have fun on your vacation!

We were on the same cruise! Favio and Christiana contracts have both ended, but Borna is still there. We really enjoyed Richard and he is everywhere and always greeted us. I look forward to cruising with him and his staff again in 2 weeks. Jocks and Maria are also on the ship, there show is not to miss.

  6. Tom Hopkins was cruise director on the Jewel last week.

I could never understand why he felt the need to shout

and yell like hell in every presentation he did!!!

I think he would feel more at home on a Carnival ship.

We had him twice on the Jewel as an Asst Cruise Director, I totally agree!

  7. I know someone who worked on cruise ships as a musician in the main band that played on board. He said it was utter hell. You live in a very very small space shared with many other people. You don't get a stateroom, you get 1/4 of a very small inside stateroom way in the bottom of the boat where it is not nice. Bathrooms are locker room style. He said that many of the entertainers abuse drugs and alcohol because it is very, very depressing. And depending on the cruise line you *might* get to eat your meals at the buffet, or you *might* have to eat cold leftovers below deck in the dorm.

He said that the entertainers had to pay for a lot of things you wouldn't think they would have to and as a result often ended up in debt. He said if you lived the most frugal meager life possible, it could work but that it didn't pay well in USA terms so most of the entertainers are not us citizens, but from other countries where the pay is worth more. The general entertainers (you know like the roayl carribean singers and dancers, and the equivalent on the other ships) are not treated well and not paid great. The specialty acts (magicians, comedians, etc... are paid and treated much better although they maybe frequently hopping from ship to ship at port.

Also if you are a member of the general dance or music crew you, like all the other staff, are always expected to be working. So if you aren't performing, and you aren't rehearsing and you aren't prepping for or tearing down a performance (often the perfomers are also the stage crew) you are doing something. You might be spirit crew. You might be in a lounge performing. You might double as youth staff. There is no laying about in the sun, swimming, or having a good time. He said he had to work well into the night and be up early the next morning ready to go on about 5-6 hours of sleep. He gave it a 0 of 10, would not do again.

The only thing it's good for is your resume. That's it. Your soul and pocketbook will suffer.

The person you talked to must have been part of the extreme, while most of what he said had some truth, it is taken completely out of context in the scope of ether job. Since the majority of the Entertainment staff complete several contracts, the majority of them enjoy their job and compensation.

  8. No pics this time, just a recap

“Here,” I yelled, as I pulled my 702 ticket back, and pushed my wife up.

“Are you sure?” she asked as she rose. She dutifully marched down to the dance floor. Tom checked her 701 ticket. After introductions of name and where she’s from, Tom told her to choose one of the cruise staffers to dance with. She finally settled on Christian to be her dance “partner” for the contest.

Things went sexy and grinding quickly. The piece ended up with Christian crab walking across the dance floor, pelvic thrusting into the air, as wife shook her grove thing, back-peddling away. Not having an active dance-partner of a husband, she seemed a bit timid when it came to bumping and grinding with the cruise staff.

But, the rest of us had fun watching her avoid the amorous and exuberant Cruise Staffer, while still trying to keep things shaking.

She was rewarded with her goody bag: T-shirt, water bottle, flying disk, etc… and some jewelry from the Duty Free shop. A pretty good haul for shaking her groove thing with Christian the Crab Dancer.

Yep, that is our Christian:) Loving the review.

  9. Hola, back on the ship from a very full day in Mazatlan. I am so thrilled to have the ships coming back here. Mazatlan gives you the true feeling of Mexico [emoji106]🏻

I also always spend way too much money here. I have always found the prices to be better here. Bought a new ring and earrings and a new money clip our son wanted. Went to Panchos in the Golden Zone for lunch Carne Asada for me and Coconut Shrimp for Tom and of course cerveza and Margaritas.
