  1. I was the original poster of this question and just wanted to report our experience. Since we were doing a b2b we brought 4 bottles with the expectation they would keep 2 and deliver 2 at start of second leg. To our surprise they allowed us to carry on all four at first check-in. Pleasant surprise. This was at Port Everglades.

As a side, this was our 13th cruise and first on Celebrity. The Reflection is a  beautiful ship and the entertainment was great. The food was a big disappointment however and the service no better than we had received on NCL or Princess. Would we sail on Celebrity again?  If the price was right and the ports of interest.

  2. Lots of good options. Thanks all.  We were gifted some excellent wines so may bring 4 and hope they will deliver on last day of first leg. I may call and will report back here what I'm told.

You may not know Rome local transit system well enough, nor the neighborhoods outside the usual tourist spots.

For Rome you may just have the "central" termini in mind.

The Trastevere station is on both the local line FL1 from the airport and the local line FL5 to the port.

    Rome Transit Map

If you take the train, you would need to transfer at Trastevere station even if you go straight from FCO to Civi.  FL1 from FCO to Trastevere, then change to FL5 to Civi.  By the way, it is much cheaper to use FL1 than Leonardo Express in case you are not aware.

Unless of course,  you spend big bucks to go from FCO directly to port but we dont want to do that especially we dont care for staying at Civi for the night.

The BnB is 7 min walk from the train station.  We only need to walk at most 10 min from the train station either for the arriving day to the BnB  for the night in Rome,  or on the departing day from the BnB to get on the  train from Rome to Civi.

Trastevere is a very nice neighborhood full of local flavor and very lively at night.  The neighborhood is not well known by Americans or Canadians who only know the usual "Rome" in a tourist's sense.

Weather permitted you can take a 5 min stroll to the Tiber River.  There are lots of eateries in the neighborhood.  Civi is no comparison in that regard.

As someone who spends at least a month a year in Rome, I respectfully disagree with Americans/Canadians not knowing about Trastevere.  The streets are full of them!

For a covid test look for a white tent outside of a pharmacy which is designated by a green cross. Go inside the pharmacy, pay for the test (€25) and have it done inside the tent. Most do not require appointments but a few do.

  4. Yes. We booked the western Caribbean cruise leaving from Tampa on Sunday. We actually went from a BB to a BA with all perks transferred and monies returned for prebooked excursions.  Although the ship isn't as exciting as the Escape, we prefer the new itinerary. It was a very long wait to talk with a rep but they could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Of course the cabins you can get are limited to availability at this late date.  We were surprised and very grateful we were able to get comparable accommodations.  Good luck!

That was Sept 2012...this April I visited Antiqua again and went to Coconut Beach Club. It was $4 each way including tip...and yeah we saw the Statue of the Prime Minister, pretty cool...we saw the "markets" (dingy and not worth it) just on the way to the Beach Club. It was a short ride and the beach club was heaven, all food and drink and lots of drinks, alcohol for $45 total, loungers, pool, towels...wonderful day

I would never do a "tour" of Antiqua again, nothing there to see, I would go to Coconut Beach club again in a heartbeat

We just decided to do a cruise on January 18 and I'm now busy trying to book some excursions. After reading lots of reviews I'm interested in the Coconut Beach Club. How did you arrange this - both the transportation and the day at the club? Thanks for any help you can offer.

  6. I started counting at 1020 days (November 2007) and my target date was September 1, 2010. Early this year I found out that my company was the target of a buy out, so. . . I am still hanging on with the hopes that once the sale goes through a "package" will be offered. I didn't want to retire and find out that if I had just hung on a little while longer I could have gotten an enhanced retirement. Hopefully I will know more by the end of this year.

I am now at D-day minus 39 and let me tell you - it has been really hard to get up in the mornings since the original D-day has passed. In my mind, I quit on September 1!! I have an Outlook task that pops up on my computer every morning when I log on that counts my days (which are now in the negative). I sure hope that I will get something extra to fund my travel plans. DH is several years younger (I was one of the original cougars ;))and we are trying to figure out a way for him to retire a little earlier than he had planned. It's the insurance issue that concerns us at this time.

So happy to read that all those who have taken the plunge are happy with their decisions.
