Come on.. I think they were being humorous.

I agree. I felt like it lightened the mood, showed they could have a sense of humor about it, and showed that theyd own their mistake.  Besides, the customers were saying and posting themselves that 'it was likely an intern' and 'that intern no longer has a job' etc etc. However, I am sure others don't agree about the way the email was written, and I can respect that.

No matter what they wrote or how they wrote it, people would complain. And that is ok as everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. We don't all have to agree, just respect one another 😃

  2. I am holding a wheelchair accessible room on deck 3 3170- it is also the only four person room currently available for the sailing date we need- and, in the past we have brought the folding wheelchair so it would be nice to have the extra space to store it.  However, it is right near the music hall.  I am wondering how loud that will be and if it is a bad idea.....anyone?

  3. I thought it was the start of hurricane season(?)

I just don't want everyone seasick.... I've done a handful of cruises and one where we had really rough waters and I was fine, but most of the ship was not. My daughter and husband spent the first two days in bed. But, that was a really rough storm and even a lot of the staff members were sick.

The Anthem and Breakaway came off the same assembly line and probably have very similar performance out on the water. Given the same weather, you will probably feel the same amount of movement on both ships. You'll be out of hurricane season and should have good weather. Movement of the ship should be way down the priority list.
  4. We are searching for a cruise out of NY or NJ for next year (end of June) to go on with our friends. Between the two families we will have kids ages 10,8,5 1/2, and just about 2 (depending on the week, he may be 2).

We are considering the Anthem, but one person told our friends that they thought the Anthem felt unstable because of its height/size. They felt it was narrow and tall. I hate going off of one person's review.

I was on the breakaway and didn't feel that was unsteady, but the breakaway is smaller.

The two year old limits us as we want a ship with a nursery/services for him so our friends can enjoy a child-free dinner. Our neighbor said Anthem had services for the baby.

Thoughts? I dont' want to end up spending the trip sea sick. We'd prefer not to fly with the kids so we have a long sail coming from NJ/NY.....

Has anyone traveled on Anthem that felt it was rocky or unsteady when the waters were calm? Or is it just one poor review which I should treat as just one review.....? Any experience on kids programs with Anthem?

  5. We leave 3/22 on gem.....just want to know if they have an egg hunt or kids Easter activities... Kids keep asking and i don't know...

And yes, pics of dailies would be great...

Want to know if ANY port is walking distance to a beach .... That's all.... Have fun!!!

So, a few quick points arising from things I've read here before I boarded:

Both DH & I are Platinum Latitudes Members. We received two Dinners for 2 and two coupons for Free Laundry automatically. No issue with both of us getting our perk.

We had a great turn out of Members at the CC M&G - thanks to the organizers!! There was also a large turn-out of senior Officers, including the Captain.

Any questions... ask and I will try to answer or find answers...

  6. The auto-gratuity is not mandatory, it's "added for your convinience" or something similar marketing talk. ;)

my plan was to adjust the dsc to reflect an appropriate ratio of what i wasnt using.

If I knew all of who was included in getting that DSC- including behind the scenes people. i would feel better- heck id walk around with cash in envelopes and tip as i went along - and wouold likely tip more than what the dsc would be getting out of me. but i dont know - do the cooks get a share? how about the people that load the dishwashers? 'wash the sheets' (if u call it that as its automated and they dont even fold them)... but seriously... why cant we get a full list of what jobs are part of the dsc? ((rant over))

  7. As you should. I was never a proponent of removing the DSC. However, things have certainly changed. We won't, but we definitely will not give them one dime extra by dining in any of the specialty restaurants. If I didn't have such a large group booked on this cruise, I would seriously consider cancelling ... but, we have have the free beverage package, and the MDRs are fine for us. If anything, NCL will lose money on us LOL

i would cancel the dining but it was a promotional price and we are traveling with family who is all doing it... soooo we dont want to eat alone. I , for one, will not be using specialty restaurants on my next cruise.

  8. If this report that NCL's phone reps are now confirming that the specialty staff are no longer in the DSC a pool, and thus the 18% takes the place of all or some of that.

The DSC pool includes other waitstaff, room stewards and behind the scenes people. I assume you will have breakfast and lunch in the buffet or MDR as the specialties are not open for breakfast or lunch.

only on sea days, and we usually eat two meals a day on board not three. port days we will be off first thing in morning and not back until dinner. im not saying im not going to make sure the rest of the people such as stewards and behind scenes staff are not taken care of, but i will be deducting a portion for what i feel is appropriate ratio for each meal not eaten in MDR each night.

  9. Well after reading this thread we will definitely be adjusting our DSC . Each time we eat in a speciality restaurant we will deduct that portion of the gratuity. In fact if they keep this up I will remove the DSC and pay cash as I want to whomever. Fed up with this .

haha. im doing the same. i will deduct that from my dsc as well and will go to cash if i need to.

  10. I see your point, however, you won't ever eat in the MDR for breakfast or lunch, the buffet maybe, any other free eating place? The DSC not only covers waitstaff but also room stewards, back end people, etc.

    Harriet

im not going to not pay anything, ,but will just be adjusting to compensate for the meals out of those areas, if that makes senses. probably shouldve specified that =) and that is what i will be letting them know.

  11. gunnar hammerlin or hannilin (sp? im not sure of his last name)

i was just on spirit 4/27.
