  1. We just returned from a cruise on the Anthem of the Seas. We had to go through customs in Miami because it was our first port back in the US. All passengers were required to leave the ship. Thirty three passengers felt they didn’t have to follow this rule. Because of this small group over 4,000 people had to stand on the pier for up to five hours. Royal Caribbean paid out over $200,000 as compensation for having to stand hours in the heat without even water. I’d like to know if anything was done to these few people who showed so little regard for all the passengers on this ship.  We’re they removed from the ship?  Banned from further sailing? To me it seems they should be punished in some way.

  2. I tried to add free at sea to the same category I have and got four different prices to do it. I wasn’t able to get anyone to explain the pricing of the cabins. This is the third cruise rescheduled on my original purchase. There is no order to how the prices are quoted. One shows advertised discount as a credit,  one shows only my FCC and 25 credit plus 20% discount credits and one shows a dollar amount discount. Does anyone know the secret to the pricing shown on an invoice?I don’t understand why it would cost $600 to add free at sea to the same cabin level.

  3. I read about this new health form earlier today. I wanted to show it to my husband and it is no longer in the travel alert. Have they changed their mind?  I don’t think too many doctors want to sign a form that guarantees people are fit to travel on a cruise. Wouldn’t that leave them open to a suit if the person gets ill?  Does Norwegian want a ship of  70 year olds who were fit to travel when they got on but became ill while onboard?

  4. Thanks so much for your reply. I can have at least one week not worrying if I’ve done the right thing going on my own. How long did it take for you to disembark as an independent traveler?

We just returned from a HAL cruise to Cuba and had no problem at all in getting off ship and doing our own thing both days. You purchase your visa at embarcation ($75) and submit your travel document before getting on the ship. Just check the first box and complete the last page. We were never questioned again. When passengers started getting off the ship, we just joined in.

I know it seems HAL is forcing people to purchase their excursions but I think this is what they have to say to be legal. They are allowed to sail there because they meet U.S. regulations and have to be compliant. If one chooses to be illegal, which we did, that is our decision. Cuba has no issue with this and nothing is stamped on your passport.

Havana was a fascinating port and we really enjoyed our ride in a '57 Chevy convertible.

  5. Can someone who purchased their tour after July last year please tell me how Holland America is handling people who booked independent tours under the Support for the Cuban People category? When I called to cancel a tour I was told once again that I wouldn’t be allowed off the ship. I’m looking for help from someone who has gone through this please.

  6. I would post this on HAL too, I have read as many returning rollcalls/posts/and reviews as I can find and found 2 comments about HAL not doing any policing about getting off the ship or how you fill out the affidavit. I am going at the end of Feb on HAL and plan on using " Support for the Cuban people" and doing private tours.

We are going on the 28th and are using the same category. Hope everything works out for us.

  7. :eek:ICan someone who has booked their cruise after June last year please tell me how Holland America is handling people who booked independent tours under the Support for the Cuban People category. The tour salespeople are saying if you don’t have one of their tours you can’t get off the ship. A woman in documentation said it’s ok. Please help me get a straight answer.

  8. I booked what was the last available room on Infiinity Rio Carnival cruise. Last week I noticed they were selling rooms again and I upgrade to oceanview guaranty. Yesterday I see the cruise selling balconies for $800 less than my ocean view guaranty. My TA says they will do nothing. is this typical?
