Taxis are also required to pick up at the same place as Uber/Lyft-- a satellite area right near Terminal 1. No more private pickups at any of the terminals.

Its not as bad as it sounds and I was pleasantly surprised a few weeks ago when I tried it out-- the initial teething problems are gone and it moves reasonably well. I used Uber but Lyft looked just as easy.

There are other shuttle services picking up the slack but frankly I find Uber/Lyft to be just as fast even with the added step. Point to point and no waiting for or dropping off other people on a shared ride shuttle.

Thank you.  I love the ease of Uber/Lyft.  I presume it is still cheaper than a taxi for two people which I was told is $65 to $70.  Is that true?

  2. We purchased it for our upcoming September cruise on the CB. The offer popped up when I logged in to "Manage This Booking." The package is called the "MedallionNet Voyage Package." After paying $69.99 for our 10 day cruise, the purchase showed up under the "Onboard Reservations" button. It was at the very bottom under "Reservations and Purchases."

My 10 day Eastern Carribean cruise leaving September 28th also came up at $69.99 for daily unlimited internet. That is $6.99 a day and I booked it right away.

We sailed to Alaska at the end of June and they changed my prepaid to unlimited daily internet as well. However the system was completely down for 1 whole day even for the onboard free patter app.

Hope that doesn't this time. But so glad they have gone to unlimited daily internet. Just hope they have the bandwidth and it stay up this cruise.....................

  3. My son and I just returned home from the June 3 - June 10 Emerald Princess Cruise. We had a great time! We got all the way into Tracy Arm Fjord. Shelley Gill , the on board Naturalist, said we were the first Cruise ship to get in that far. It was definitely a Wow!! experience. She was very excited about it! She had nothing but kudos for the Captains ability to navigate through Tracy Arm. It was one of the high points of the cruise. Tracy Arm is absolutely beautiful. It was awesome watching the ship turn around in such a small area. I think I heard Shelley say that the ship only had a 40 feet clearance. We chose not to do the small boat excursion through Tracy Arm, instead we did the Mendenhall/ Whale Watching tour in Juneau. On the cruise the week before ours, they could not get in tp Tracy Arm or Endicott Arm.

Reading your post made my day. We are on the Emerald leaving June 24th. We too did not book the small boat and so glad to hear you were able to get in. We are doing a whale watch in Juneau. So excited now that you posted this. Thanks for posting this.

  4. It sounds like there are still rockslide issues at Skagway... for you RCI folks, did they rebook you on the bus?

Where did you read or hear the rick slide issues are continuing? We leave Seattle on June 24th and have the train/bus Chilkoot 3 1/2 hour tour booked for this port. So hoping it is not cancelled as we did not do this excursion when we were there 10 years ago. Was really looking forward to this one.

  5. In 2012 we did the morning train up and bus back - the only foggy (and it was really foggy!) weather we hit was for a portion of the bus ride down. The ride up had some clouds but still spectacular long distance views, especially from the back platform of the Chilkoot car (which was the last car in the train). In less than 5 weeks we are doing the same itinerary again but starting in the early afternoon.

We are doing the 12 noon train up and bus back the last week of June. We plan to wander beforehand where we hope there will be less crowds with everyone off on excursions. When they come back to town we will do the train and then van..... hope that plan works and the weather cooperates.;)

  6. Thank you! Wishing you a wonderful cruise. We leave on June 24th. 1st Alaska Cruise for us.

We are on your same cruise....... hope you have joined our roll call. I can hardly wait. Going to be 108 degrees this week and 110 next Saturday so a break from the summer heat is much anticipated.

  7. We did the helicopter up to the glacier and dog sled up on the glacier in J7neU 10 years ago with our boys. It was amazing.

One of the whale watchings out of Victoria is on an inflatable that goes super fast so it is EXTREMELY bumpy. My husband thought he got injured 9n that ride, so research that. Small boats out of Juneau for whale watching get rave reviews on trip advisor and this board. We are doing Butchart Garden on our Alaska cruise this June.

  8. Our flight into Seattle for our Alaska cruise got changed by the airline. We will land at 9 am now and Princess says we board at 1 pm. I am glad if we show up early we can board early......... we have are transport from airport to pier 91 coming at 10 am. This way it allows for deplaning and getting our luggage. So should be at pier about 11 am. Do they start at 12 noon generally for boarding for a 4 pm sailing?

  9. We did the fastcat turtle snorkel through the ship last year. Really nice catamaran boat, snorkeling with turtles just okay, then beach afterwards for 1+ hours, back to port. Good half day excursion.

when you get off at the beach, you have to walk in chest deep water to shore, same on way back. There was plenty of rum punch flowing though, so most people didn't care. Food was for sale on shore.

I am thinking of booking this exact tour. How many people were on this excursion? We will be in port from 1:30 until 10 pm. It has been super hard to find any non cruise ship afternoon cruises to see turtles. We will be there October 1st. Thanks for your reply.

  10. In Victoria do Buchart Gardens. Even though you are there at night it stays light late plus they illuminate as well.

We are doing whale watching in late June in Juneau. Go with private small boat for better views. We are doing the train up and bus back in Skagway.

On our first Alaska cruise we did a bucket list helicopter to a glacier with dog sledding. That was in Juneau and was AMAZING but very expensive.........

  11. trying to decide if we should do the Princess Cay StingRay snorkel or wait and do the Princess StingRay (at StingRay City), Snorkel, Swim and Scenic Country Drive. Anyone have any experience/recommendation? I see there is also snorkeling that you might see Stingrays on St. Thomas. Any information is welcome.

  12. I will be taking the same trip as you, on the Bliss, August 11th. PLEASE let me know how your trip was, once you take it and if you have any suggestions/pointers for me. We cannot book our excursions yet, but we are planning on booking:

Ketchikan ~ Bering Sea Greatest Catch tour

Juneau ~ Whale watching, either with the trip to Mendahall Glacier or without, havent decided yet

Scagway ~ Train trip, but from what I am reading here, I am thinking of doing the train/bus combo now

Victoria ~ On our own; I want to go the miniature museum, the Fairmount Hotel and fishermans warf.

We are traveling in a group of 10, ages 75 down to 15. My own two sons are 18 and 21. I would love to get your insiders tips once you take your trip!!

I too am doing the train and bus combo in Skagway as all train seems to much...... and you get a different perspective I am told for train then bus. Whale watching on the smaller boats I have seen highly recommended. We are doing Jayleens. Victoria we are doing Buchart Gardens.

  13. L102 and L104 are the two ocean views left. Agree that L104 looks huge. And it looks like it is under the workout class area. L102 is the smaller one as noted. And it might be under the treadmills. There are 4 of us in 2 cabins and we just might give this a go........ it is two moms and we each have 2 special needs young men who get along great. We did a 10 day Mexico cruise on Ruby princess together and had a blast. Being by the pool as mentioned would be great. Plus they are both over 6 foot eating machines. So being by those places would also be great. Thanks to you all for your help.
