  1. Hi all - need advice - we are booked on an Inside Passage cruise from Seattle in Sept. We were planning to go for a whale watching/Mendenhall Glacier excursion in Juneau, but it looks like we're only in port from 2 pm and the glacier part of these excursions looks short. My husband saw that there's whale watching out of Seattle, where we will be for three days pre-cruise. I would really appreciate feedback: Is the excursion out of Seattle a comparable experience? How are they different? How much time would you recommend to explore the glacier? Thanks in advance!

  2. I would recommend the upgrade if you want to explore the various Martinis at the Martini and/or Molecular Bar (Molecular was still there on Silhouette as of a week ago) and if you're set on drinking a particular brand of booze. Wine snob types found the best selection in Cellar Masters and would occasionally walk into the dining room with their glass. I also agree with the advice to try Classic for a day or so if you're unsure. Two members of our group stayed with Classic, and one was able to get the small Cosmos at Martini Bar on Classic.

  3. Thank you for giving us a fun, in-depth look at your cruise, and for writing it up beautifully, with such great photos.

I'll be on the same ship and same itinerary in December and I'll be revisiting your posts lots between now and then.

Also: I keep telling myself I'm going to stick with that Classic Beverage Package they gave us, 'cause really, do I need the frou-frou?......but your martini photos and French Caribbean descriptions have tempted me.

If I do upgrade, you should get a commission!

  4. As one of those who bashed the bar service on the Vision Memorial Day cruise, nothing would make me happier than to know that RCL heard the complaints and responded with better bar service, or more bartenders. It's a great ship for friends and family who want to share good times. It's also a great ship for readers - in addition to the quiet deck with lounge chairs facing the sea, there are comfy indoor sitting areas on every level of the Centrum, my favorite space on the ship. Booked to go back in October and I can't wait.

  5. I am curious -- is there a different line for people to purchase beverages that don't have the drink package? If you are on line for a drink how do they know who has the drink package and who doesn't unless there are different lines. Wouldn't you have to wait regardless?

Soflacruiser - They don't know. Yes - It's all the same line. What I meant was, it was frustrating to me to wait in a line for a drink I had already paid for. I'd rather not pre-pay $55 a day for drinks that were difficult to obtain, and pay for only those drinks that were served to me in a comfortable setting. Which will mean I probably get fewer drinks, but that's ok.

  6. Please don't worry. It's a beautiful ship and you will enjoy your cruise. Keep your patience with the bar and you'll be fine. Same with dining room, where in spite of one or two confused servers, most of the food was very good and served hot. Room stewards reviewed on this board, including ours, seem to be as good as they come.

After our Memorial Day weekend experience, i I wouldn't buy the unlimited drink package again because it annoyed me to wait in line for beverages we had already paid for, but that's just me. Enjoy the Park Cafe, the R bar in the Centrum and all the other nice spots. Can't wait to sail the lovely Vision again this fall.

  7. I was on a one night Oasis preview cruise and it was fun to try to pack in as much as i could. Not relaxing - but fun! If the timing is right and you have the $ and this is what you want to do, have a blast. Walk around the entire ship - it's a marvel. Plenty of good info on the boards to help you plan. Heck - people come to NYC for a weekend and want to "see it all". You can't. You just go back.

  8. Great job on this review. How awful to be pinned by that scooter. You are lovely to be so gracious. So sad that you ran into such obnoxiousness in fellow passengers.

I was on this sailing. I have a feeling that the MDR staff was not as experienced as most, and way overburdened. I saw consistent hustle and some confusion. One night we sat all the way in the back next to a serving station and quite a few members of the staff seemed to need instruction.

We did have some serving stars, however. Jorge of Portugal was one of them. Cares about service and it shows.

  9. I was on that cruise too and agree with much of what's said here. Jon, Mike, KSawyer - sorry we missed you. That pool bar was a mob scene. To others, If you're planning a meetup, try Solarium Cafe (a bar) or R Bar - seemed to be a little easier to see people - or Schooner.

In Cozumel, my husband and son did the 3 site snorkel through RCL. Good deal at $49, not a fancy boat but great crew and guides and cold beer.

I've been on holiday weekend cruises before and never saw anything like the challenge of trying to get a drink from those bars, especially the first day. My husband spoke to someone in the beverage department who said they were overwhelmed by how many people took the unlimited packages, since the cruise was a sellout and Monday was a holiday so folks got their money's worth on Sunday. Poor planning not to have more bartenders or a beer and soda cart or something on the busy spots.

We didnt feel too many vibrations on deck 2 forward except leaving and docking. We had a last minute reserve and got an inside cabin so all we did was sleep and shower there.

No Sorrentos or Promenade Cafe on this ship, but Park Cafe in Solarium was open till 2 am for late night snacking, cookies, sandwiches and pizza.

Overall, good far outweighed the bad - but saying something was off on this cruise is absolutely correct.
