1. I cant seem to find their hours of operation. Does anyone know what time they close? Thanks!

I think most of the beach clubs close around 5:00 or 5:30 from what I have read. You can e-mail Eduardo for the exact time.

2. Does anyone know how much it costs just to participate in the clear kayak tour and the snorkel tour? I've seen a lot of packages including lunch and drinks, but my family's just planning to take a taxi there and see what activities happen to interest us on the spot. Thanks!

Uvas usually only takes reservations so you might want to e-mail them and check on that before you make definite plans about it. They have a website. Just google.

3. The SO's mother is a seasoned traveler and we got her these 'twist' rain hats that she actually uses in her 'one bag packing', which says a lot.

I'm thinking about a motion activated LED night night for the bathroom so I don't wake up anyone up at night..or maybe some of those electronic tea-candles just to keep by the bedside and use on the balcony.

And of course the small softside cooler is a must have along with the Ipod dock and speaker.

I bring a small flashlight for emergencies. I brought a cooler once and it was useless. It leaked. If you have a fridge in your cabin just have the room steward unlock it for you.It will keep your stuff cool but not cold. I always bring a mug so I just use ice and pour my drink in it. Alot of people say to bring bungee cord for balcony door, which I have done but never had to use it. Door will stay open on its own, unless you just want it partially opened then use the door stop provided in your room. I see no real need for duct tape either, unless your baggage gets torn, then you can get tape from pursers desk. I do bring sticky pads to leave notes for room steward and DH. Don't forget to bring a power strip for your electronics. I hope you don't plan on using your speaker on deck because they will ask you to put it away. I usually bring a small pharmacy with me:) like pepto, rolaids, bandaids, ointment, wet ones etc. Traveling with my DH is like traveling with a child:D He is always hurting himself somehow.I also bring a foldable clothes hamper for dirty clothes. I do laundry when we do a 7 night cruise, that way when I get home all I have to do is put the clothes away and you don't have to pack as much clothes either. Have a great time!

4. We did the all inclusive. Everybody says you get greeted by name but that didn't happen. I had prior reservations and was on the list. When we got there (one of the first groups) they told us to go stand over there and basically forgot about us. We sat around for for 2 hours with me constantly asking when we were going to get started before we did our first tour. After the kayak and snorkeling we ate lunch around 2 so got a couple of drinks in (good service on the drinks) but by 3 had to leave to catch the boat. Getting the ALL inclusive was a waste of money, I had 7 people in my group and the main concern was for the groups off the boat that were coming in. Next time somewhere else for sure.

Sorry to hear you did not have a good experience there. We were there in Feb. and had a wonderful time. We did not have any problems with the service that day. Uvas really is a nice and friendly place. I know first impressions are hard to change, but you should try to give things a second chance sometimes. :)

5. Were there easy entrances into the ocean to swim from the beach? Was the place over run at anytime by cruise excursions? Were there plenty of spots down on the beach that had shade? Not too crowded? We will be arriving in two weeks and I am still not sure if this is the right place, we have been many times to Cozumel, but never here. Thanks.

They had sand bags to help you enter the water. They also have lounge chairs and umbrellas and it was not crowded at all when we were there last month. The service was great and so was the food. DH really enjoyed the snorkeling there and I really enjoyed the drinks.:D

6. Do you have to book the snorkeling package to snorkel there or can you bring your own snorkel gears and snorkel? Do they require that you have a vest?

No you do not have to book the snorkeling package and yes you can bring your own gear. Not sure about the vest. I would think if you booked with them they would want you to wear it.

7. thanks a lot. we love to snorkel and will have our own goggles and mouth thing. are the vests required? what about fins? my h is a big guy (5x) so i think i should get him his own life vest. is it better to book online prior to cruising or can we just show up at the port as i read on someone else post? which package would you suggest for us? and i do not see kyacking in our future do to h's size.

I booked DH the snorkle, lunch and open bar and for myself just lunch and open bar. They have several packages available. Check out there website for the prices and reservations. A little tip: If you do not won't to pay extra for the snorkeling just get a package without it and you can snorkel on your own. Just watch were the group is going. :)

8. We were there last Friday with 4 ships in port. Uvas was not that crowded. The service there was excellent. We had Keiko as our waiter. He was great. Always coming to check on us. DH did the snorkling tour and enjoyed every minute of it. I had a massage while there. I think that was one of the best I ever had. I was like a wet noodle when done.:D We did not have any problem getting drinks we wanted, although we drank the usual stuff. The only thing that bugged me was that I wanted to use the pool but the water was too cold. We would definetly go back there. It was a very relaxing day.

9.
please help me decide. we are booked in a oceanview room on the riveria deck for 3 people, the room size is 220 square feet. we were thinking of moving up to a balcony but they are only 185 square feet can anyone whos been in both tell me is it really that much smaller in a balcony.
its 2 adults and a 12 yr old i hate feeling crowded. also if you were to book a balcony what deck would you get i was thinking of the empress deck. also is the 430.00 total price difference worth it.
its our 4th cruise but never with 3 in a room or never in a balcony
we have done ov inside and port hole and loved them all.
The price differance to me is a bit steep. The only time all 3 of you will be in there for a long amount of time is when you are going to bed. The balcony room itself has less square feet but when you add the balcony space it really does make a differance. If you don't plan on using balcony much I would stick to OV.Just my opinion.:)
10. Got my reservation and confirmation for Playa Uvas.

Two weeks from today I will be in Cozumel on the beach :D:D:D ( much better than the 15 degrees and 0 wind chill I am experiencing right now:eek: in RI)

I was looking around the Carnival website and I see that Carnival offers the all inclusive package to Playa Uvas for $79  and you only get I think 2 drinks and a fruit plate , but you do get transportation.

Gotta love do it yourself excursions!!!

That must be a new one. I don't recall them having an excursion there before. Had I known that I probably would not have booked there. I was looking forward to having only a few people there. We may get lucky and not have that many do that excursion.

11. For those of you who have been to Playa Uvas what is the best food and drink to try there? I am pretty open to try anything once. DH will probably stick to his usual Fajitas.

12. For those of you who have been to Playa Uvas recently... do you have to wear some sort of shoes when getting into the water? From what I've read they are necessary because of the jagged rocky edge, but just wanted to double check.

You don't have too but it would probably be wise. We wear ours at all the beaches we go to.

13. Greetings, I've been lurking around here for a couple of weeks reading various posts and getting bunches of good information. My wife and I will be going on our first cruise this June and are very excited, but as you can imagine we have a few questions, so here we go...

1. Is there a reason not to book the cruise now (4-5 months in advance) or should we go ahead and get'r done now? I would book now. The prices could change at any time. If your catagory has a price drop between the time you booked and your final payment you could get On Board Credit.

2. Since it's our first cruise we're thinking 'bout an ocean view room instead of a balcony...should we let Carnival select our room and hope for a free upgrade or should we pick our cabin location? If money is not an issue go for the balcony. I prefer to pick my own cabin. Upgrades are few and far between these days so I would not count on that. You do come out cheaper most of the time if you let them pick for you. I am too picky about where I want to be.:)

3. And finally (for now anyway)...My wife may have an issue with seasickness ...from what I've read the back of the ship seems like the most stable...is this accurate? Are there noise issues from the engines or above decks? Opinion on aft-view cabins... For stability I would go mid-ship. I'm sure there would be a certain amount of noise back there just not sure how bad. Bring Bonine or she can try the wrist bands for sickness. I have never stayed in an Aft cabin so could not tell you much about those.

Thanks

Hook'em

Hope this helps.:)

14. My husband and I are considering this cruise for 2009 since we live in Texas. Has anyone stayed in a balcony room on this ship and which deck do you prefer?

We stayed on deck 6 Balcony. Convenient location. Casino is on deck 5 where we spent most of our time. This time we will be on Lido with balcony. Closer to the food.:) Having a balcony is great. I like having a quiet space all to myself to go to.

15. Our group just got back from Playa Uvas on Saturday, January 17th. This was my daughter's wedding cruise, she was married in Tampa right before we sailed. We made a reservation for 70 I think but 81 of us came to Playa Uvas for the day. What a day it was!!! Everyone had a ball, unfortunately the winds were high so there was no snorkeling tour but later in the day some were allowed to go snorkeling. Eduardo, Carmen, and his staff were friendly and attentive. Many of our guests got henna tattoos and massages. Boy did the guests LOVE the massages. I can't thank Eduardo enough for such a wonderful day at the beach. Our friends and family could not have had a better time anywhere else.

If you are unable to go snorkling do they refund your money?

16. We are sailing on Carnival Miracle, Sunday, Feb. 1, which is also Super Bowl Sunday. Will they let us in the dining room if we wear our Steelers' jerseys?

Usually first night is come as you are because luggage probably has not made it to your cabin yet.

17. anyoen know child rates for ages 4 and 6?

I think it would depend on what package you are purchasing. Check out their site for the different package deals. It has the prices.:)

18. After snorkeling, our lunch was served. YUM FAJITAS!! I think they are the best here!!

After eating lunch, we downed a big glass of the Hawaiian coconut (i think that's what it's called), we relaxed and enjoy our view and I remembered our wedding day that took place there a year ago.

PC050245.jpg

We took a couple of pictures and we said goodbye to Playa Uvas and to everyone else. I made sure that we tipped the bartender and our waiter. They always work hard to keep us happy!!

PC050244.jpg

The service, food, and snorkeling was great!! We always enjoy our day while we are there, even if it's just for a couple of hours. Next time we go, I plan on spending the entire day there so that I can snorkel more. Maybe one day I can be brave enough to do the scuba diving class!

I highly recommend Playa Uvas, there service is always superb!! It's always quiet, peaceful and relaxing..... oh, I wish I was there again!!

If anyone has any questions just ask and hopefully I can answer them. :D

DH and I are thinking about going there. What I was wanting to know is since he would be the only one snorkling would it be wiser just to pay as we go or should he purchase a snorkle package just for himself. I just don't see paying for myself for snorkling when I won't be snorkling. In other words can we purchase one package for him and do the entrance only package for me? Any info would help.

Thanks!

19. We live an hour and a half from Russellville' date=' near Fayetteville. Russellville is a great town! I saw pictures online of Gilcrest. It absolutely blew my mind! We've driven through Gilcrest before and it is so hard to believe that practically everything is just gone! I feel so bad for everyone from that town! Thanks for the info on Galveston. I've been checking the web and some hotel websites in Galveston won't open, so I assumed maybe they weren't opened back up yet. I'll keep checking![/quote']

Stayed overnight in Russellville once. Had a great meal at the steakhouse there. That was several years ago.
