Last night was the 3rd Chic Night --- With so many Chic Nights the formality is starting to be relaxed.    David and Robert did tart it up a bit.

Robert shot this terrible picture of me hard at work.    I couldn't find the email for our car rental.   We know I had it because I showed it to Robert and he thought I sent him a copy of it but couldn't find it either.    Finally went back to the room and used my PC.   Must have gotten deleted as it was in Achieves.

I love the shirt you’re wearing, Jim.  Fabulous!

While not a mystery I really got hooked on Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City.

It began in 1976 as a daily column in the San Francisco Chronicle and was so popular that it eventually progressed to 4 books and a couple movies.   It was fun as many of the action were based on real life streets and alley ways on Nob Hill.

I read the whole series and absolutely loved it!

  3. Hi Paul,  I LOVE your review.  So much detail and so much fun!  Quick question.  I will be sailing in a Sky Suite.  I was wondering how the set-up is before you board.  I know there is a suite waiting area, but I have heard that Royal Suite, Penthouse, and possibly other suites have a separate check-in area and/or they get escorted onboard first.  Did you happen to notice if that occurred when you boarded?  Thanks.

  4. CS and above have silver folders and SS has blue. If you arrive before general boarding then the silver folder people will board first and may have a different waiting area. That's the way it was done on Eclipse in January.

This was my main concern. We will all arrive together at the port, but it looks like we will be boarding at different times. Our reservations are linked, but I doubt that will matter. Guess we will all catch up later on the ship.

  5. On returning early to our cabin one evening we told our butler we were tired and going to watch a film....minutes later he rang the bell and presented us with a large bowl of popcorn!

On another occasion we had mentioned to our butler we enjoyed Indian food....next sea day he arranged a lunchtime banquet for us.

Favourite story, we were returning to the ship after a walk....We had taken under our wing an elderly couple we had come across who had become quite distressed when a ‘local guide’ would not accept that they did not want to pay him to go on a guided tour....We were chatting to them and they were cheering up now they were with us and feeling safe again...As we neared the ship they pointed out the PH deck to us (M class moored stern in). They said they had heard what an amazing room it was....On boarding we invited them back to our veranda for drinks. Their faces, after a scary morning, when we led them into the PH were a picture! The butler appeared like a Genie out of a lamp, sorted drinks, snacks....and treated our guests like royalty! They stayed with us until after sail away with our butler fussing around them, clearing savoury snacks and returning with chocolate strawberries, dramatically popping chilled champagne as the ship left port....We had quietly let our butler know that our ‘new friends’ had been distressed when we met up with them and (like us) he was determined to give them a special afternoon....We have invited other friends and cruise acquaintances back to our various suites since and our butlers have always appeared with snacks etc but I will never forget this one who really gave our guests an afternoon to remember....As they left our suite to dress for dinner our butler insisted on walking them back to their room complete with another plate of chocolate strawberries ‘to eat later’!

What a wonderful treat you gave to that couple. That was as thoughtful as it was generous.:)

  6. I’m not laughing. Italian pronunciation of the “ci” sound isn’t intuitive, especially to those of us who grew up surrounded by English and Spanish. I agree with GerScot, with the caveat not to make it a drawn out vowel sound as some of us in the US do when speaking English.

    Pronounced like Cafe al BAH-chee-oh

  7. Celebrity and its web team have lost their way once again.

Imagine my surprise when I tripped across this page advertising cruises to Vancouver, British Columbia, but showing a photo of Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia. Sure, they're both in Canada, but some 6,000km apart and on two different oceans. Hopefully the IT crew never gets the opportunity to get close to any ship's bridge!

This is unacceptable. Doesn't anyone check for accuracy?

  8. Just checked my itinerary and the time had changed ggrrrr. Less times in my favourite island. Was Jan 26 at 2:00 and depart the 27 at 5:00. Now the 26 at 3:00 and the 27 at 4:00. 🙁

We are on the same cruise and have a shore excursion at 2:30. This will definitely change things. Thanks for posting the update.

  9. Hello,

Sail away was wonderful. So many people on shore and in boats waving to us. Scrap Nana and fm6175, thanks for the lovely send-off!

ger_77, I promise to take very good care of the ship for you. She is in great shape.

Himself, I can't remember who the Captain is off the top of my head, but will let you know.

Dinner on the first night was good. We went to listen to the B. B. King group afterwards. They played a lot of R&B from the '70's, which I thoroughly enjoyed. People were dancing. Great group!

The seas have been choppy. We woke up to the sound of one of our glasses flying off the shelf and onto the desk below. Glass went everywhere. Housekeeping was awesome. They came right away and vacuumed. Needless to say, we were awake for the day.

Half Moon Cay was beautiful, as always. Weather was perfect. Maasdam was also there for the day. The beach started to get very crowded after 10:00 or so. People kept arriving until well after.noontime.

Today is an at sea day and our first Formal night. Checked out the dinner menu. They are serving Surf and Turf, but the surf is prawns. Hoping for lobster tails on the last formal night.

Take care everyone. Wish you were here...
