  1. It depends which airline you fly. I registered my trusted traveler number with United for my trip last fall and was rewarded with TSA precheck on my way back from Nashville. Apparently Air Canada is now part of the program too.

Just my luck though...we are flying West Jet in Feb and AFAIK they are not yet part of TSA Precheck.

  2. I was able to use a T-Mobile smartphone in St. Thomas with no roaming charges. But other non-US ports you would be roaming and would incur extra costs. As the alwaysfrantic has said, wifi hotspots in the ports are the way to go.

  3. In response to the poster who wanted to watch the ships sail away...this past Feb we had an ocean view room in the tower of the Bahia Mar and were able to watch all the ships sail out on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. So that may be an option for you too.

  4. We just used hotwire and got the Bahia Mar Ft L Beach--a Doubletree Hotel. We will be there one night precruise--March 25th. Gotten some info from trip advisor but wanted to ask advice. Is it anywhere near a grocery store?? Mainly thinking of wine and breakfast items.

Also, what about restaurants within walking distance?

Nothing in hotel write up about airport shuttle, so do not think there is any, but the price was very good so guess we can spring for a taxi!!!

Thanks so much for any advice. This is a great site.

Dottie, we stayed there in February of this year for several nights. On the property, there is a deli/store called "All About Food". When you drive in the entrance it is on your left. We were able to pick up wine and beer for our room there when we arrived. I also grabbed a made to order croissant breakfast sandwich there one morning and it was good.

No shuttle but taxi's were easy to get.

We are staying there again next year for several nights pre-cruise.

  5. Well I've finally gone through the whole thread. Whew! Thanks to everyone who has contributed. Lots of my questions were answered but I still have one.

We will be staying at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach pre and post cruise in Feb 2012. We are flying into FLL at around 8pm on Sat Feb 4. Once we check in to the hotel we'll probably want a bite to eat and a few drinks at a casual place. From what I've been reading the Bahia Cabana looks like a good possibility.

My question is...is it a safe area to walk around at night. For example if we wanted to walk up to the 7-11 and pick up a bottle of wine for our room?

(We'll be heading to Total Wine Sunday aft for more supplies).

    We are two women.

    Thanks
