  1. We will be visiting Grand Cayman and will be one of six ships with over 17,000 passengers descending on the island. We have never been there before and would love to see some of the island but with that many people I'm wondering if we should just stay on the ship? Any suggestions on what to do if we do venture off the ship. Our travel companions would like to go to a beach bar but none of us like big crowds.

  2. We did as CHEZMARYLOU posted. We were on an Alaskan cruise and land tour which included an excursion to a gold mine and a river boat ride. We went on the river boat and then called a cab to take us to the University of Alaska Museum. We just let our tour director know what our plans were. However since this was on the land portion of our trip there was no ship to miss.

  3. We're sailing on the Westerdam on Aug 9 2014 . On July 9 2014 we got an email from HAL offering an upgrade from a G ocean view (4091) to a VA balcony (4127) for $149 each and we kept our $50 beverage cards. We even got to choose our stateroom rather than a guaranty. This is the phone number HAL gave us to call 888 628 8107 to make the change. Can't hurt to call them.

  4. Thanks all for your quick responses. I can always count on CC to help me out! I've had the chowder at Tracy's Crab Shack and think I'll get the legs this time. Speaking of Tracy's, I read somewhere that they have a new location. I'll have to look that up and report back on it. Just booked the cruise so didn't get the package with the free PG dinner so don't think I'll be eating them there.

  5. Got a question for anyone just off the Westerdam cruising to Alaska out of Seattle. Was crab served in the MDR? And if so, what night was it served and what kind was it? Would hate to miss it as we don't always eat in the MDR and crab of any kind is my favorite food. I did a search for crab and saw that someone posted that it was served on the O'dam so hopefully it will also be served on the W'dam.

  6. Before booking 4172 (shower only) on the Zuiderdam I did several searches on the CC boards for info on the shower size and never really got a firm answer. Some said it was the size of the bath tub just with out the tub. Not true. It's more like a large RV shower. It was fine for us but may be a little tight for some. On the plus side, the counter space around the sink was very ample. Friends that were staying in a regular bathroom stateroom has a much smaller counter.

A pleasant surprise was the depth of the balcony. It must have been about 6 or 7 feet deep. Looking at the balcony above us, ours seemed to be about 2 feet deeper.

I will post this on the new site being built with room info also.

I have pictures but every time I try to upload them I get an error.

  7. Thanks again jti513 and Linda. Mom does well for 84 but her back does hurt her on long flights so I think it would be the same on a bus. After doing the river cruise and gold mine the day before she may be pretty bagged. A down day may be just the thing she would need on the day of the Tundra Tour. I'll probably go by my self.

One more question. If Mom wanted to skip the gold mine tour (she did it with my niece several years ago) is it possible to go back to the hotel after the river boat tour?

  8. Thanks jtl513 for the quick reply.

We just booked this cruise tour 2 days ago (price to good to pass up) so haven't had a lot of time to reseach things. I'm traveling with my 84 year old Mother and want to be able to tell her what to expect. Did you take the Tundra Wilderness Tour in Denali? If so, would that bus ride be pretty hard on Mom? Any other tips or advice you have would be appreciated.

    Thanks again

    Karen

  9. I've searched the boards until my fingers are numb and my vision blurry. I need the help of you experienced Alaska cruise tour folks. I can't seem to find info on the bus trip from Denali to Seward which is included in our cruise tour (R2T, Statendam, May 21). Does it stop for lunch? How often for rest room break? Photo opportunities? 10 hours seems like a LONG time to be on a bus.

Thanks in advance for any info.

  10. Just got Silver Cloud Inn Lake Union, Seattle for both pre and post cruise for $160 on Hotwire. Cheapest I could find for this hotel on other sites was $199. This includes free parking, breakfast, and a free shuttle to downtown. The shuttle runs twice an hour and has 3 routine stops: the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, and Pioneer Square.
