Good day, all.  I ordered two - 2 packs of the test for $139.99.  I only received two tests, not four.  In addition, my lot # on the two tests is 143543.  This number isn't listed on any of the documentation that explains the extended expiration date.  The current expiration date is 10-5-2021 and we sail 11-28-2021.  I have contacted them via email and have received this confirmation:  "Thank you for contacting Optum Store support! We have received your request and a ticket has been created. Your ticket number is (203198). Our staff will review your request and get back to you soon."

So far, we are not having a very good experience with this company.  Anyone else have a test that isn't listed on FDA notice?

Tuttles, Lot number is above in original post:  14353.  Thanks!

It is definitely frustrating that the test kits shipping now have only a few months left before they expire.  Perhaps it helps to understand why, even though, as consumers, it's quite frustrating.  As was reported in the NY Times, the market for test kits took a nosedive in the late spring after vaccines became widely available and the number of Covid cases declined steeply, and Abbott reacted by scaling down production.   Unfortunately, months later, the Delta variant cause the surge in cases in which we are now caught up, and Abbott has had to ramp up operations.  In the meantime, it is clearly shipping the kits it still has on hand.

The test kits originally had a shelf life of about 9 months, but the FDA extended that to 12 months based on data showing longer shelf-life stability.  The FDA's letter, linked below, is on eMed.com's web site.  (eMed are the folks who proctor the tests, and one of the on-line sellers of the tests.  The other is Optum.)

The label on the test kit box shows the original expiration date, but it does not show the actual, extended date.  For that, one needs to consult one of the Abbott letters that can be found on line) (do a Google search for your Lot number, e.g. BinaxNow LOT xxx) such as these linked below, that contain lists of the lot numbers and their actual expiration dates:

The  number 195-100 is not a lot number.  It is Abbott's catalogue/reference number.  It's not the number linked to an expiration date.   Here's a photo of a test kit box.  You can see 195-100 in two places (circled in yellow and at the red arrow): it's the Reference number.   The LOT number is plainly identified by the word "LOT" -- see the lavender arrow.  It is the LOT number that is tied to an expiration date.  In this case, the original expiration date was Oct. 3, 2021 -- the date next to the hourglass icon, the symbol of the expiration date.  (The lot was manufactured on Feb. 2, 2021, the other date on the label.)   Looking up Lot number 142400 on the second Abbott letter linked above, we find that the extended expiration date is Jan. 3, 2022.

The Refund policy on the eMed web site says that:

"We are unable to provide a refund or a replacement kit due to expiration. The FDA granted an additional 3-month shelf life to the printed expiration date on the BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Ag Card Home Test kits. Current test kit expiration dates may be as early as December 2021. Please review the letter issued by the FDA here for more information: https://eMed.com/FDA."

I hope this additional information is helpful.

  3. Good day!  I live on St. Croix and am an avid Celebrity Cruiser.  Our main town is Christiansted town, not Fredericksted.  In the future, I would recommend taking a cab to Christiansted if you do not have a shore excursion or take a cab for an island tour.  Unfortunately, this was the first ship here in almost 2 years and the vendors were at a minimum.  Also, August is our very slow month and many business owners take their vacations in August and lots of businesses are closed.  However, I hope you enjoyed "limin" here.  It is a chill island and we'd love to see you again.

  4. Good day.  Hope everyone is well.  We live on St. Croix, USVI and can see the Norweigan Spirit between us and St. Thomas heading to Port Canaveral, FL according to MarineTraffic.com.  Any ideas why this ship is sailing?  Is there a shipyard in Barbados where ships are getting repairs?  RCI Freedom of the Seas is near Barbados and it appears Serenade of the Seas is heading there now.  Any ideas?

Turtles06 - I respectfully have to disagree.  Nothing personal.  It is an opinion.  I enjoy your posts.  But it is my opinion that it is correct that anybody can be a suite guest if they choose to do so.  Many do for many reasons.  Special occasions or anniversaries.  For whatever reason some choose to pay the extra money and others do not.  It says nothing about whether they can afford it or not.  Just their choice.  Is it a class distinction in your opinion if people choose to pay for Aqua Class and dine in Blu?  Or if people sail Concierge Class and get a lunch on embarkation day?  People pay for what they want.  It is a cruise vacation not an economic class distinction.  We are not in the days of Titanic.  Not sure why this keeps being brought up.  A lot of others compare themselves to being in Steerage.  Again we are all very fortunate people affording Celebrity cruising vacations.  Suite or not.

Bravo!   And...….everyone should not get a "participation" trophy, either!

Great Review!  Will be boarding Summit on Tuesday 1/14/2020 on 11 night Dutch Antilles Caribbean cruise!  Looking forward to the new Summit.

The lunch for Concierge Class is on embarkation day. I believe the time is usually 11:30 to 1, but I could be slightly off. There’s no e-mail invitation. Sometimes the concierge greets people at check-in and invites them, but I don’t think this has happened on all of my cruises in Concierge Class. I think I’ve gotten a small paper invitation at check-in (when we used to get our Seapasses then) or in my room (now that we pick up our Seapasses there).

The menu is limited. You can find it by searching threads on this forum or by Googling it. The lunch isn’t a huge deal, but I like it. I think it’s nice to have a less crowded, more peaceful option than the buffet for lunch on embarkation day. I also liked that the dining room had a place to drop off carry-on bags during the lunch. But now that the Summit has had its “Revolution,” you can drop off carry-on bags in your room as soon as you board.

Thanks for the info.  I did search the threads, but they were REALLY old, and you know how things change.

  8. Good day!  Has anyone attended the concierge lunch recently?  Can you tell me about it?  Is it a set time?  Will we receive an email or invitation prior to sailing?  Typically sail in Aqua Class and this is new to us.  Thanks so much for any information!

  9. Is it just me? I can find muffins, bacon and tomatoes for breakfast but I can never find the lettuce to complete my BLT'S[emoji35] We've asked for lettuce before but have never gotten it.

Is it just us who look for and want a BLT for breakfast?

I, too, love a BLT for breakfast.....and you are right, it is difficult to get the items you need to assemble. Sometimes, there is lettuce as garnish under the meat items and I will snag it from there. You cannot find mayo in the morning either, so I try to remember to get one or two packets from lunch the previous day. Good luck on your quest.

  10. For the life of me I cannot understand WHY they show a movie by the pool mid day on a port day. My friend and I recently looked forward to a relaxing day by the pool on Coco Cay day. Low and behold - at noon they start playing Kung Fu Panda! What? I'm in the Caribbean! Very loud and so annoying. Luckily we had an aft balcony. We left the pool and enjoyed our nice quiet balcony.

 STOP PLAYING MOVIES BY THE POOL DURING THE DAY!!!!!!!!!

  11. So, the Serenity area is actually serene? Doesn't it face the big TV? I've found that the noise pollution from those blaring screens finds it's way forward on Conquest-class ships and the last thing I want in the Serenity area is that sort of noise.

I was on the Sunshine in January. I ABSOLUTELY HATE those big screen TV's. We had a Cloud 9 Spa cabin and when we walked out on the deck, the TV was always blasting in the morning and I was up EARLY. A section of serenity area faces the screen and that area isn't serene. I nice steel drum band would have been great.

I liked the Sunshine. Food was good, service was excellent. However, there is quite a bit of congestion on the Lido, in the serving areas and few sun loungers. And....yes, the decks 3, 4, 5 are from the older designed ship and you have to go up (or down) and around to find the dining room, etc.

All that being said....I don't hate it. I'm doing a Carnival Journeys sailing in February 2016.
