  1. Hi

We have this package for two weeks on Navigator in July. I know the package has been stopped but will be honoured. I've heard conflicting stories regarding upgrades. Some have said that they got upgraded for free, others have said it's $10 a day and I read somewhere it was $25 a day.

Does anyone know for definite? Many thanks.

We had received the beer and wine package for our April 2017 IOS TA which we booked on the Rhapsody in 2016. Prior to the cruise I e mailed RCI and was advised that for $10 per day plus gratuities we could upgrade to Deluxe.

I was happy to do this as the new package included water, all of the coffees and a greater range of alcohol. I printed out the reply and included it with our documentation in case any issues arose when we asked to receive the upgrade.

As we boarded the ship I asked the staff member selling the packages to upgrade me for the $10 and to my pleasant surprise he stuck a small label on our sea pass cards and said it was a complimentary upgrade.

We were able to have all of the drinks from the deluxe package throughout the 15 night TA and had a great time as well as saving over $300.

    Nice touch from RCI.:D

  2. We got home Tuesday after a great holiday on the ship together with a 2 night pre and 1 night post cruise stay.

I would recommend The Plaza Hotel in Mestre, book a deluxe room.

We were on the 8th floor, quiet location. The room was very large, the hotel includes breakfast which is both hot and cold assortments and a restaurant if you want other options.

The restaurant also does food from scratch on a night with a viewing window to see the chefs at work.

The hotel is directly opposite the railway station in Mestre and 100 yards from the bus terminal which has a direct connection to the airport.

Venice is a 1.25 euro train ride away taking 10 minutes.

The taxi the hotel organised to take us back to the airport was 35 euros fixed price. The cost to the port was similar with bags dropped directly at the porters.

When we arrived at 0930 on the day we disembarked they immediately provided us with a room and so we were able to settle in and then spend the whole day in Venice.

Rhapsody is in great shape, crew are really good.

  3. We are booked on the Silhouette for the British Open cruise. Does anybody know if there will be readily available ground transportation at the port to get us to the course? We are planning on buying general admission tickets when we get there.

If you decide on the train, you will have about a mile to walk from the harbour to Ayr station. Ayr station is the start of the line and trains to Troon leave every 20 minutes, cost is about £5 return. Troon is 4 stops and 10 minutes up the coast where you will have the option of a 1 mile walk to the course or access the special coaches provided by Scot Rail to the golf (you can purchase these at Ayr station).

Both walks are pleasant, no hills and on good surfaces.

  4. It is all depends on what is important to you:

    1. Same cabin/ location

    2. Least expensive price for 1A or you are flexible with location.

    3. pay full deposit and current price.

There will be compromise in one of the aspects of your booking.

I would book on board Med/ Israel cruise, getting best perks and low deposit and book TA after final payment, getting best price and compromise cabin location. Celebrity do not give much incentives for TA. We did TA on Silhouette last year in AQ - was one of the best cruises. AQ was sold out but there were plenty balcony cabins available after final payment. 2017 TA pricing are about 20-25% more than last year.

Thank you Isabella, same cabin for both cruises is probably high up our list.

  5. Hi fellow critics,

With the endless array of incentives at this time I thought I would ask yourselves about any recent experiences of the best option for our 2017 cruise.

We plan to reserve the Silhouette for a b2b in a 1A cabin next October; first cruise the Med and Israel followed by the Atlantic closing. Availability is good at this time and we can get the same cabin for both trips on deck 9 hump near the card room lift area. We have already used this cabin on the Eclipse and like the location.

Our options we think are as follows:

    1. Book on line this month with Celebrity, they are currently showing the first cruise as a drinks inclusive (even though the front page of the web site states that this only applies to 2016 bookings)

    2. Wait until our cruise on the Rhapsody in June and book via a future cruise option (we did this several years ago and got a great deal, even though it was for a sister company)

    3. Wait until our Eclipse cruise in October this year and book via future cruise bookings.

Has anyone recently used the future cruise option on either a RCI or Celebrity ship and what were the benefits?

Has anyone any other suggestions to obtain best value?

Looking forward to reading your replies

    David

  6. Hi

We spent 21 nights on the Equinox November/December in a C2 room; the bed was very comfortable and whilst the bottom of the bed curves to make easy access to the room I found it great to sleep in as it is very wide. I am 6 foot tall. The mattress was clean and enhanced by a topper.

Great storage under the bed for our 4 hard suitcases

  7. We had booked a Junior Suite on the Splendour this May; 3 days before we embarked we received an e mail from RCI with a new invoice stating our cabin was now an Owners Suite for the same price.

We had a great time in the cabin which was massive, we visited the concierge lounge each day for drinks and were invited to eat dinner with the Chief Engineer which was a truly memorable experience.

We are Platinum and have no idea why we were so lucky but really enjoyed the whole thing.
