  1. Just got back. We visited the Cathedral in Florence and the Vatican. In both places they were fairly strict with the ladies. Security came through the lines, insisting that some cover up more, etc. They were focused on having both knees and shoulders covered. The men didn't seem to get any comments even though several were wearing shorts and there were signs posted that clearly said no shorts. There were many vendors selling shawls by the entrances and many of the ladies were buying them and wrapping themselves up.

  2. This post may be a bit late for your question but we just got back from the 12 night Med/Greek Isles cruise on the Vision. My wife and I absolutely loved it. We've done many cruises (mostly on RCCL) and without a doubt this was our favorite, both from the ship standpoint as well as the itinerary. Unlike most of the other cruises we've been on, this itinerary was really all about the ports. We went to Barcelona, Cannes, Florence/Pisa, Rome, Athens, Mykonos, Santorini and Malta. We had four--much needed and appreciated--sea days. We enjoyed all the ports, but found Cannes to be less than we had expected. We would return to any and all of the other ports. Vision is one of the smaller and older ships, which is exactly what we have learned that we prefer. It's all personal preference, but now that the kids aren't traveling with us, we have no need for multiple flow riders, board walks, skating rinks, etc. We enjoyed the smaller number of passengers, and found the crew to be very attentive and most friendly. The Captain was spectacular and very visible/accessible...probably why the crew was also so spectacular. On some of the bigger ships we noticed that the crew weren't necessarily rude, but far less friendly and attentive, perhaps because of all the extra guests they were dealing with. We would gladly return to this ship and/or itinerary. I hope you enjoy your trip, this one will be memorable.

  3. Just got off of a 12 night Med cruise on Vision. It was the best cruise experience we've ever had. My wife and I have been on several of the RCCL ships, small and large and definitely prefer the smaller ships. However I agree with one of the earlier posts that teenagers might prefer the additional activities on the bigger ships. But on Vision there is a rock climbing wall, pools, jogging/walking track, shows, teen club, movies, etc. I also agree with the other posters about the Captain--very visible, engaged and the crew/staff were equally engaged. We would go back on Vision anytime, you won't be disappointed!

  4. We purchased the deluxe beverage package for our upcoming cruise on VOS. For past cruises we've always paid per drink. As I understand the program, the deluxe beverage package does not apply to room service, i.e. if you want a bottle of wine through room service you won't get the beverage package discount. However, it does say you get the discount for bottled wine in the dining rooms and "bars". My question for those that have experience with the packages, am I correct that you don't get the discount on room service, and if so, can you buy bottled wine at one of the bars and bring it back to your room? I've never ordered a bottle of wine at the bars and am not sure you can order by the bottle? (Some of our ports will be day long tours and I'm anticipating room service on those nights.) Thanks in advance for your help.

  5. After many years of talking about it, my wife and I are treating ourselves to a Mediterranean Greek Isles cruise this summer on Vision. We have cruised many times on RCCL, but it has been a few years since our last cruise. In the past if you were in a suite--grand suite or above--you could order room service from the main dining room menu. However, I'm not seeing that mentioned on my documents--only a reference to their new expanded room service menu. I contacted RCCL via email and finally got back a response that talked about their expanded room service menu, but no direct answer to my question of whether the full dining room menu is available for room service or not. Can anyone clarify this for me? I appreciate anyone who may have a clearer understanding of the current policies.

    Thank you

  6. Anyone cruise on both lines? Do you see any difference? We recently cruised on Harmony of the Seas after not going on a cruise for five years and were a little disappointed. We've been on several RCCL cruises (Emerald), and a few on Princess, but hadn't cruised since 2012. We were excited about Harmony being a new ship, but wound up disappointed with a decline in quality of service and quality of food. We were wondering if the ship was simply too large to have consistent quality service and too big to serve the large crowd appropriately (6000+ passengers). Or has RCCL gone down a bit? We love being on the sea and are thinking about other options and Celebrity is one we're looking at. We know that it's associated with RCCL, but it appears to operate as a distinctly different line. Has anyone experienced both and have thoughts on pros/cons between the two options? Thank you advance for your comments!

  7. Question for those who have experienced the port area and beyond exploring on your own--In some ports we've been to (Jamaica comes to mind) we've sometimes felt overwhelmed by the number of people constantly approaching to braid hair, sell items, etc. How is Cuba in this regard?
