  1. My husband Jack and I will be on this cruise with a whole bunch of straight friends from the US and the UK whom we met on Disney TATLs. We will be happy to meet all the LGBT folks aboard! Our first ever NCL. We have done Disney, Princess, Cunard, and Crystal. We love sea days.;p

Welcome aboard guys! We are also traveling with a group of friends, some from a previous cruise on NCL back in '13. Looking forward to 10 sea days as well!!!

  2. Hey guys. Ken here. Yes, there are other LGBT sailors with you on the Getaway TA. Actually there are many of us (and those who like us)! This will be my 6th TA. You will totally enjoy it. I am traveling solo and booked a balcony cabin. The gang usually meets for sail away and nightly at the Friends of Dorothy meetings which we ask the ship to schedule around 6 or 7pm. This allows for gathering and making dinner plans. Cheers and glad to meet you.

Hi Ken! Very excited for our first TA. I've heard they are quite addicting...4th cruise with NCL, been on the Jewel twice and the Epic. Can't wait!

  3. We have one of the last few cruises booked for 2018.

It will be our second Splendor cruise. For the record, I like the pink. I think it's pretty. DH does not. :)

My guess is that we will get a Conquest type ship here. With the strong PCL market and 2 Fantasy classes here, I just don't see a bigger ship.

NCL has totally pulled out for 2018-19. (excluding Alaska, I think RCI has too.)

NCL has not pulled out of LA. They have Mexican Riviera on the Bliss as far out as April 2019.

  4. Hi! I'm Kenny and will be traveling with a couple, David and Justin. Hopefully they'll have a FOD meeting. Look forward to meeting you!

Nice to "meet" you Kenny! Looking forward to meeting you guys as well!

Last time we were on the Jewel, the FOD was held in the Star Bar every night around the same time (9:00PM or so). The Star Bar is gone now, replaced by Moderno Brazilian steakhouse so not sure where they will have it this time. We even met Sally Jesse Rafael at the FOD on that cruise. She was traveling with her husband and two young gay guys from LA. She was fabulous! How many people can say they've had drinks with SJR?

  5. Sounds great! Why are you nervous??? Dubai is amazing. We loved it so much, we booked Celebrity out of there for Xmas/NYE 2016!

More excited/anxious than nervous I guess. First time traveling to the Middle East. I've heard amazing things about Dubai and Muscat! We considered the Celebrity 9-night out of Abu Dhabi as well, but the RCI worked out better for our schedule. Who knows, maybe we'll be back...

  6. I would recommend the NCL Jewel for your Mexican Riviera. We're actually boarding the Jewel on Sunday for the 7-day riviera cruise. This will be our 2nd time on the Jewel and it has been updated within the last year or so.

NCL is all about freestyle aka casual. No formal nights to fuss with, lots of dining options. Less of a "party crowd" compared to Carnival in my experience. The Jewel is a beautiful ship, easy to navigate.

I haven't been on the Carnival Miracle, but I have been on it's sister ship, the Carnival Pride. I found the layout a bit akward. A lot of zig-zag stateroom hallways, having to go through a smoking lounge to get to the dining room (although I think that may have changed with the most recent upgrade). One of my least favorite Carnival ships.

As for Princess, I haven't been yet.

    Happy Sailing! :)

  7. We live 30 miles from the cruise port in Long Beach, and nine of us are taking a six-day Carnival Cruise in December. We're trying to figure out the least expensive way to get to the port. Do we drive two cars and park them for the duration or arrange shuttle transportation for all of us both ways? Have any of you compared these options and can provide suggestions? Thanks.

Parking at the Long Beach Cruise Terminal is $17/day. You might try Super Shuttle.

  8. Husband and I have 2 planned so far in 2016:

    1) Family Cruise with the kids, 4-Day Baja Mexico from Long Beach on the Carnival Inspiration

    2) Just the 2 of us, 7-Night Arabian Gulf from Dubai on the RC Vision of the Seas.

This will be our first cruise out of Dubai and I'm super excited (and somewhat nervous) about it. :)

  9. My husband Kevin is originally from the North Bay, Santa Rosa. He moved down to the valley about 8 years ago. So we go up there quite a bit to visit family and friends.

I've always wanted to cruise out of SF. Something special about the idea of sailing under the Golden Gate! I wish there were more cruise lines that would come to SF. It would give us a few more west coast options.

As for Carnival, we've had good experiences so far. I would definitely recommend the 7-day Mexican Riviera. I've done that one a few times. And we love Puerto Vallarta! Probably my favorite port. I'm hoping they bring a new ship to LA soon. They've had the same 3 for several years now.

Hope you guys a great weekend. Talk to you soon!

    :) Danny

  10. Thanks for the info! One of the reasons we like Carnival is because they don't charge any additional fees to use the fitness center. We always use the gym and sauna/steam room onboard. Makes us feel less guilty about indulging in the dining room...

As for the rain, bring it on! Being from the central valley we've almost forgotten what rain feels like. Although we are getting a slight sprinkling today (AMEN!). I'll bring my French Connection umbrella...it reads: "FCUK RAIN" I love it and hardly ever get the opportunity to use it!

We would love to meet up with you guys in Vancouver for a drink! We don't have any definite plans as of yet. We weren't planning on getting a rental car while in the city, seems fairly compact and easy to get around (from what I can tell).

So you mentioned you were flying in from SFO. Do you live in the City as well?

  11. What are the chances of you two having the same birthday? That's great! :D

I'm glad to hear good things about the Crown Grill, I was curious about that. But from what I've read/heard, Princess does a better job than most in the food department.

A couple questions, if I may... 1) What is the Sanctuary? And is it something you pay extra for? 2) Is there a charge to use the fitness center (like NCL)? 3) Is there a piano bar (the sing-a-long kind) on board the Star?

Ok, that's it for now, promise.

    :) Danny

  12. My husband and I just booked this nice little cruise a week ago. We are flying in from San Francisco and staying 3 nights pre cruise at the Pan Pacific. Going to turn it into a nice one week getaway. Hope we can meet up on the cruise. My name is Gary and my spouse is Brian.

Welcome aboard guys! Nice to meet you!

Would have replied sooner but we've been in South Beach soaking in the humidity...lol

I'm Danny and my husband is Kevin. We are also doing 3 nights in Vancouver pre-cruise. Staying at The Burrard near Davie St. Flying up from LA on 11/5. We bringing another friend (straight girlfriend) Erin, along as well.

Any plans for Vancouver yet? This is actually our first time to Canada. Looking forward to meeting you guys soon!
