  1. We rented a jeep in Skagway last week. The fog was so thick you could barely see in front of you. Fortunately it did clear up later. We saw the bikers in the morning, and it took me while to realize they were part of an excursion! It looked terrifying to be biking in that fog on the busy road! Later in the day would have been better. It might be better to wait until the day of arrival to book. The mist or light rain wouldn't be bad. But the fog we drove up in would have been pretty scary!

  2. If it's any consolation, you may have had a better time sailing out of Whittier your first night. I took the Major Marine Kenai Fjords tour on June 17 out of Seward. I guess on both the 16th and on my day they shortened it to just a Resurrection Bay tour due to the storm you sailed into. I was fine as long as we were in the Bay, but when we crossed over the Gulf of Alaska to get to the other side of the Bay, I got pretty seasick! Boy, were the seas rough! I would do it again though, just because of the wildlife we saw.

On our second cruise to Alaska, we sailed into a storm on our second day. 25 foot waves all day. Half of the crew got sick. They said it was the worst they had seen in several years. Once we got through the Straights of San Juan de Fuca things calmed down. I have decided that I prefer the one way cruises much better! Not as much time in the open seas!

  3. While I have no problems with Carnival as a cruise line, I would definitely choose the HAL itinerary. We have done two Alaskan cruises ( both round trip out of Seattle) one on Royal Caribbean and one on HAL. We loved them both. Sitka and Ketchikan are both wonderful ports, and in both of these we have found plenty to do without paying for excursions. We're trying a southbound Alaskan cruise on Princess in a couple of weeks, so I will have another cruise line to add to my list.

  4. We have sailed RCI, HAL, and Carnival and the best food we have had was on the Carnival Liberty. From the main dining room, the hand tossed pizza, the Blue Iguana cafe, and the premium steak house, everything was delicious. We were with friends who are very experienced cruisers and they were a little very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Carnival isn't for everyone, but their food, for us, has always been good. We are sailing on Princess in three weeks and I'm looking forward to seeing what the Coral has to offer!

  5. We will be on the Coral in three weeks, on an Alaskan cruise southbound from Whittier. We have a mini-suite on the Dolphin deck (last one port-side) so it is open. I really want to do the UBD, but am not sure. I know we can do it inside, but has anyone had success with having the dinner outside on an Alaskan cruise? I'd love to hear from you!

  6. We are spending a day in Anchorage before starting the land portion (on your own) of our Princess Cruise. My husband is going to do a fishing charter, and I am deciding between the 26 Glacier Cruise out of Whittier and the Kenai Fjords Tour out of Seaward. With either, I will be doing a round trip coach from either our hotel or the convention center (depending on which I choose). This is our third trip to Alaska, the first two being round trip cruises out of Seattle. I have seen glaciers, but what I really want to see is wildlife. The trip to Seaward for the Kenai Fjords trip is a bit farther, but I'm thinking I'll have a better chance at seeing wildlife. I can't decide, and I'm hoping that I can get some advice on this!
