  1. Thanks all.  I assumed this was the case, but it's nice to know. Yes, we are aware they are larger ships than on the Douro. I think we will do the eastbound cruise to spend more time in Budapest after the journey.

  2. We are planning for the Danube next summer and there are quite a few options.  We sailed the Osfrid on the Duoro and enjoyed the ship very much. I wondered if there was any difference in the several ships that are sailing the Danube - Egil, Gullveig, Atla, Jarl, Alsvin, Tor, Var

If they are all similar, then will we just look at dates are start/end cities.  TIA

Has anyone here used (or is anyone considering using) the "Inspire Diagnostics" home test? They're working directly with NCL. I would not have known about this option if the NCL rep I spoke to yesterday hadn't mentioned it. I was calling to apply our FCC to a May sailing, and she directed me to the Sail Safe page on the NCL website, which includes a link to info about the Inspire testing:

On the plus side, if someone in your part tests positive before the cruise, there's no need to upload proof of the positive test. I'm hesitant to try something without some reading about some real life experiences, though.

Also curious about the two available proctored tests - the one from Inspire Diagnostics is available in a 3-pack for $80 which would be great for testing two people and having a spare one "just in case". I hate wasting money buying the one from e-med that only comes in a 6-pack if the Inspire Diagnostics is just as good.

We are doing this due to cost and not needing the extra 4 tests.  Inspire works with many cruise lines, so I feel sure the process will be smooth.  I know we could probably get a test locally, but worry that we would not make the turnaround time.

Ships are sailing 100% covid free starting March 1 by requiring testing 2 days prior to cruise.

I am not sure that would be true.  Someone with a recent infection could test negative 48 hours out if they have not developed enough of a viral load.  Other lines have required pre-testing and testing at port and covid still manages to get onto ships.

  5. Since this is our first NCL cruise, I want to be prepared.  We have free drinks package and 2 specialty dinners. I believe the basic gratuities are covered with those in the package price.  We have also prepaid the standard daily gratuities.  If we would like to recognize crew members that go above and beyond, are cash tips appropriate?  Can you add additional to a bar or restaurant tab?

I hope my question is allowed.  I know tipping can be a touchy subject.

  6. New to NCL so am not sure about options.  We do see the weekly thermal spa pass available for pre-purchase and I think we would enjoy the space, but not sure we would use it every day. Are day passes available, and if so what would we expect to see for price?

The would be on the Bliss for a March cruise.  I would guess part of the answer depends on how many guests are on the ship.

  7. We did the Jan 17 sailings.  It was our 3rd MDAS.

The Deck show was excellent and just as good as before.  So was the USO Captain America show.

They used to let kids participate on stage during the Dr. Strange, but that did not happen.

The meet and greets are more distanced.  Lots of photo opportunities, no hugs or autographs.  We saw everyone except Gamora.

Lots of Marvel trivia on MDAS including two super fan events.

On the past two there was a guest artist from Marvel that gave talks, that was gone.

We had a great time and although there were differences, the Marvel experiences were still very well done.  I think the Deck show is the best thing DCL does as far as special events.

  8. Thanks for all the input.  We decided on the Bliss as all the ports are new to us and we have never sailed in that part of the Pacific.  HAL has a similar cruise that week, but it is hard to pass up all the Free at Sea benefits on NCL. If we enjoy NCL then we will look forward to sailing the Breakaway in the future.

  9. I think we have settled on the Bliss and looking at available cabins.  There are still several angled balcony cabins available, which might be nice for the extra space. Both are near the aft elevators.  Deck 9 appears to be above the Dolce Gelato/Los Lobos Waterfront area.  Deck 15 seems to be just below the front end of the gym.  I know it is better to be between decks that just have cabins.  Will Deck 9 be noisy from the waterfront?  Will Deck 15 have a large overhang blocking the view?  Will the gym above be an issue?   Should we forget about the angled balcony and just choose something between cabin decks.  Thanks for any advice.
