  1. We are sailing on Independence Nov.6th,going to Vigo, madeira, etc.Wanting to do a tour on our own(not RCCL).They(local tour guide) take Euros-we have U.S. $.Where do we get Eoros,or how does this work? Thanks much-first time for us with this situation.

We are just back yesterday from Independence, and did a tour (the RCI one) in Maderia.

Our trip was late getting back, - last boarding was 5.30pm, and we didnt get back until 5.50pm, with a sail time of 6pm. We made it, just by the skin of our teeth!

We DID see some people, in other ports, not on tours, coming back late to the ship - Lanzarote where our sail time was 3pm, and these people thought it was 5.30pm as it had been previous ports, and the sauntered up to the ship at 3.15pm!! The Captain DID wait for them, but I wouldnt want to be the person who held up the ship, and I wouldnt want to bank on them waiting again!

In short, although the RCI tours are more expensive, IMHO, its worth the extra money for peace of mind.

    Hope this helps!

  2. I was just having a little reminise, and I was on the ss Himalaya (rhyming with Australia!!!) in 1972!!! I was 3 years old!!!!

I was with my parents and my younger brother, who was just a baby at the time. We didnt go to Australia, I think it might have been departing Southampton, but dont recall the itinerary.

We later sailed on the ss Arcadia - I remember that one - we saw a ship on fire and Arcadia went to its rescue - but wasnt the first one there, as I recall.

In 1986, we went on the ss Canberra - that's what really gave me the cruising bug!!! I was a teenager, and totally blown away by the whole thing!!! We visited Madeira, Lisbon and Vigo on Canberra, and in 7 days time, my husband and I are boarding the RCI Independence of the Seas, and for me at least, re-visiting these places, along with Tenerife, G Canaria, & Lanzarote.

Lovely memories, and great excitement for a return to cruising!!!

I have been trying to download the cruise critic door signs from the first page of this thread, but to no avail.

Its telling my that the file is damaged, and cant be fixed.

Any help out there?? Can someone post a new link please, so I can download and print a doorsign for our 4 October cruise on Indy!

    Thanks!!
