  1. 1 hour ago, let's go cruising said:

I did not keep them. Sorry! Our group consisted of four couples in their 40s - 50s.  Two couples saw several shows and RAVED about them.  The other two (me!) went to other entertainments because we already loved doing those!

I guess we'll be surprised then! I don't have to see all the shows, but if there's one that stands out, I like to go. Thanks!

  2. I sailed on the Elation in January 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been on much bigger ships - Allure, Oasis, Freedom of the Seas, and Carnival Dream - but don't always need all the bells and whistles they offer. If you like the itinerary and the timing and price work for you, book the cruise.

  3. I did that on my last cruise, on the Elation, and swore I'd never do it again. It isn't that big of a deal for me to wait on my luggage since I pack my swimsuit, meds, etc. It wasn't difficult, just a pain to lug it around. I agree with your husband - it's one less thing to think about.

  4. I just found this on Carnival's website:

    • "f you use a CPAP machine, please note you will need to pack your machine with your carry-on luggage. Should you wish to bring your own distilled water with you to use with your CPAP machine, it must be hand carried along with your CPAP machine. For your convenience, Carnival carries distilled water which can be purchased either pre-cruise or once on board. For pre-purchase, you must contact our Fun Shops department at 1-800-522-7648, Extension 70039, Monday-Sunday from 8:00am-10:00pm ET. For purchase on board, you can contact Room Service."

It makes sense if you have a full-size machine, especially if it can't fit inside a suitcase. Have you ever seen how they sling and stack suitcases? I invested in a travel machine and it fits nicely inside my suitcase, so I don't plan on carrying it on. I'll just make sure it's padded and tucked securely. Hope it doesn't set off the naughty police.

  5. Up until last May I was a healthy 47 year old planning a graduation cruise for my 2nd oldest child, which included the rest of the family and my oldest daughter's boyfriend. No worries and no insurance. I ended up in the hospital on Mother's Day, and on an operating table less than 48 hours later having open heart surgery because, basically, my heart sprang a leak and had to be repaired. A month and 2 days later we boarded the Freedom and had a perfectly wonderful cruise. I was lucky (in a LOT of ways).

DH and I just got back from 7 days on the Allure - with insurance. Lesson learned.

You NEVER know what may happen, regardless of how young you may be and healthy you may think you are.

  6. I've been on every class of ship, from the Empress to the Allure, with the exception of the Radiance class. While the Voyager and Freedom are likely to be my first choices as favorites - once on the Mariner and twice on the Freedom hold wonderful memories - I wouldn't turn down a cruise on any of them! When the time and cruise are right, I'll make it to a Radiance class ship - and I tend to like oddballs. :)

  7. You can drink them in your room,

You can drink until you go vroom,

Drink your beer at any pub,

    Party down inside a club,

Have a daiquiri in the pool,

    Drink drambuie until you drool,

    Surf on Flowrider with margaritas,

    Booze at Ritas with senoritas,

I guess what I am trying to say,

Is you can drink your drink any old way,

All we ask is that when you're poured,

You try to not fall overboard.

    Very clever…love it!

  8. I switched to ginger capsules a few years ago. They really seem to help me. I take them 2-3 times a day (especially sea days). I got them at the drug store, they only had one brand but 1 bottle lasts a few years. And they don't have a taste (at least I don't think so). I like ginger but don't like to eat plain ginger.

I've tried the ginger capsules and they worked quite well. However, that "taste" you say you didn't have? I had it - profusely. I was burping up ginger constantly while taking them even though the bottle said there was to be no aftertaste. Maybe the problem was that I don't like ginger in any form and just happened to notice it more than someone who likes it or is even indifferent towards it. The bottle was pretty inexpensive and my daughter was able to take them, so it didn't go to waste, but it's another remedy/prophylactic one may want to try out before boarding - particularly if you don't care for ginger.

  9. Regular Dramamine in dimenhydrinate, which is what will make you sleepy. Both the Less Drowsy Dramamine and Bonine are meclizine, which is far less likely to put you to sleep. I take it before going to bed when sailing and have never had any issues with not being able to stay awake during the day, nor am I queasy.

I buy it in bottles of 100 for our family of 5 (and the cheap factor), but it may be hard to find. When I went to Wal-Mart last summer to buy a fresh batch I was told at the pharmacy that they didn't have any, nor could they get any. That may or may not be true and I didn't push it. I checked Amazon and found a bottle of 100 meclizine tablets for $5.83 and free shipping. Even generic brands in stores will be somewhere around $5 for just 20 25mg tablets.

  10. I was in cabin 8050 (a JS) on the Grandeur back in February. It took us a couple of night to figure out what it was, but finally decided that since we were under the solarium it was chairs being moved - especially since it was too cold to sit out on deck. It may also have been carts rolling by to the cafe which was on the port side as well. It wasn't terribly annoying, but it was definitely noticeable and I wouldn't book that same cabin again because of it. Of course, if it means being on a cruise and that's the only cabin, left - I'll take it!
