  1. I have always taken extra RX medications and some OTC meds "just in case." It seems to me that some of the mentioned items may not be necessary. My husband and brother-in-law both tested positive during our Panama Canal cruise in Oct 2021. We were on the Nieuw Amsterdam and the treatment and support was exemplary. They were both given IV monoclonal antibodies the morning after the positive tests.  Any meds needed to cope with symptoms were provided and the support team did everything possible to make the isolation as pleasant as possible. At the end of the cruise we were transported to a 4 star hotel until the isolation period was completed. The liaison group continued to check on our needs and also arranged transportation to the airport. We were not charged for any of the above.  They were willing to cover any costs for changing flights, etc that were not covered by travel insurance. We were given future cruise credit for each day in isolation onboard. They went above and beyond any expectations and we felt safe coping with Covid under their direction.

I am concerned that passengers who test and treat themselves without the medical center may not properly isolate, thus exposing other passengers. I understand wanting to have anything you may need, but our experience with the medical center leads to confidence that they can and will handle anything that is needed.

I did the test at walgreens last week just to see how it goes before our Jan cruise and the results were on my pc in 45 minutes.  I was at Quest today and they said there was NO Quest in the county doing rapid testing.🤕

My DH also had a test done at Walgreens last week to see how prompt the results were. They had quoted 24 hours, but his results were emailed in 45 minutes also. The only problem I see with Walgreens is they only book appointments two days in advance.

Any suggestions for disposal of the underwear?  Those trash cans in the bathrooms are pretty small and not airtight.  I'd like to make things as easy as possible for the room steward.

I have used Heaven Scent hygiene bags that are made for incontinence products. They are scented like baby powder mildly, but enough to mask any smells. They have 2 sizes and I find the small one holds 2 adult pull-up briefs. I purchase them on Amazon but they may be available elsewhere also. They are thick enough to conceal the contents and no smell escapes, thus avoiding embarrassment.

  4. I'm booking an Alaska cruise out of San Francisco sailing late August. I think the larger balcony on Caribe deck 10 would be great for scenic cruising days and we enjoy breakfast on our balcony. However, I've seen comments about wind and posts from years earlier about balcony doors this far forward being locked while cruising, which would defeat my purpose. Does anyone have any experience with cabins this far forward?

  5. Does anyone have any experience with Airport Transfers Direct in Barcelona?

We are a group of 7, with 13 pieces of luggage and do not want to split up into taxis when we go from BCN to our hotel. Any recommendations for a reasonable, reliable transfer company with vans would be welcome. We will also use them from the hotel to the port a couple of days later so an airport only company would not work for us. Thanks.

  6. I usually request wheelchair assistance as I can't stand for a long time or walk long distances. When I get to the terminal I ask for wheelchair assistance. Sometimes there is a waiting area for wheelchair assistance and they take people on a first come basis. I have had to wait up to 15 -20 minutes at times, but that time is more than made up when I am wheeled to a special handicap line for embarkation paperwork and then directly to the ship. Of course anyone in my party stays with me and doesn't have to wait in the long lines. I always tip the wheelchair pusher.

  7. Does anyone know if it is possible to request that a larger wheelchair be available for embarkation and disembarkation? The only ship I have cruised that had larger wheelchairs available was the Carnival Miracle. I will be cruising with Celebrity soon and the wheelchairs they had available when I last cruised with them were basically built for 150 lb people max., which I am not.

I don't need a wheelchair often enough to bring one or rent one. I get around the ship fine with a cane and do also have a rollator if need be. It is just that I have found that there is more standing and walking than I can tolerate when getting on and off the ship, including some ports. I am happy to tip the pusher generously, but hate to have to cram myself into a small wheelchair and then worry that it will break in an embarrassing incident.

Has anyone called special needs with a request like this or will I be laughed at?

  8. Afternoon tea was served in one of the lounges on sea days with piano music for entertainment and the sweet and savory food offerings were exceptional and differed from day to day. IMO this is one of the two things Carnival does better than HAL - afternoon tea and 24 hour made to order pizza!

  9. Hi, Does anyone have any information on the Fairfield Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port on Griffin Rd, Dania Beach, Fl? Understand it's a new hotel. Any information about the area would be helpful.

    Thanks

    thanks

  10. We had no choice on the Eurodam last Feb, but ended up loving it. We identified a table and servers we liked after the first night and then called for that table every night thereafter. Basically, we had the same great service one expects for fixed dining and had a little flexibility as well.

We liked it so well that we are going with anytime dining on our upcoming cruise this month.

  11. I have nothing but the best to say of your island, and the people that live there. We stopped in Funchal in 2005, rented a car, and had a most enjoyable day driving around, up over and through your island.

The island of Maderia is one of the few places I've been to where I immediately looked into how much it costs to live there.

How easy is it to rent a car and then drive around? My DH loves to do DIY tours. Is it complicated to get around? Can you advise a rental car company, please? I prefer one who will bring the car to the dock and pick up from there. Thanks.

  12. I got 3.5 star Sheraton Suites Plantation for $66 2-21 post-cruise and am very happy with this hotel based on the reviews.

We had actually tried for this hotel pre-cruise 2-13 on Priceline and bid from $60 to $90 before we won 4 star Hyatt Regency Bonaventure which has some great reviews and some not-so-great. Wish I had used Hotwire then.

I also got some help from betterbidding to identify hotel probability on the post-cruise bid.
