  1. Go to tourist office near the Nuestra Senora de los Decampardos befor 10.30 and pick up a walking tour of the old town which is excellent. The walk starts back at the Nuestra . The tourist office phone the guides to say your on your way. Taxis to the tourist office cost 20 euros approx. The guide at the end of the walk will take you to the bus stop to catch the bus to the city of arts and sciences. Opposite the city is a corte engles department store where you can ca abus back to the ship or take another taxi - its still a distance to the ship because you have to go around the railway lines.

  2. Hello Tony,

I have been visiting Madeira for nearly 30 years and was there for 2 weeks in August, so I will try to give you some pointers.

You will have to walk from the port towards town to find a taxi as they do not allow them onto the dock. The buses for Monte normally go from infront of the cable car but as the town is a building site at the moment they may have been moved. It should only cost you around 10 euros by taxi. A small number of taxi drivers will want to convince you to book a half day which is around 80 euros for 4/5 hours, but walk away and use the next one- they are all metered. You will need 2/3 hours at Monte Palace gardens. The toboggan ride is fun but at the end I dont think there is any local buses and be careful about the price of a taxi back to town ; again they should use the meter and again it should be around 8-10 euros. It takes 30 minutes to walk back down steep roads.

    Hope this helps Roger

  3. Hello,

Was in Valencia in Dec. Ship provided a shuttle to old town.At the tourist office(in Plaza de la Reina) we booked a 3 hour walking tour of the old city which was brilliant; the tours leave just round the corner from the office at 10.30 from the Plaza de la Virgen by the Cathedral. The guide then pointed us in the direction for the local bus no95 to all the sights along the former river(the city of Arts & Sciences). It is still a long walk back to the ship but near the sites there is a bus back to the port entrance( bus no 4 from PASEO DE LA ALMEDA near the roundabout I think - again check with the guide or tourist office). The walk back is very windey because you have to get round the train lines-it took around an hour.

    Cheers Roger

  4. Hi Cloogs

Just back from Norway. We did the Trollsgaten by coach with the ship. It took 8 hours with plenty of time at the top and bottom of the trolls staircase. We also had an hour stop for lunch. The tight spot is driving down the stairway road but this was due to the number of buses, so if you can get away quickly from the port you will have an easier journey. I can look up the bus route if you want.

    Cheers Roger

  5. Hi,

Just back from the Infinity. In Olden I took the ships trip to Lake Loen and the glacier- a walk of 300 yards. On returning to Olden I asked a local person in the office next to the berth about trips by minivan to the Briksdale glacier. He can be contacted at:

    frode@briksdalsbne.no

He said he can arrange a minibus trip for a group and the use of the troll cars up to the glacier. He stated that you would have to be off the ship quickly to get up to the cars and glacier before the cruise organised trip. I did not have enough time to ask about price.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers Roger

  6. Hello Sue,

I am on a Celebrity cruise in July. I have found out there is a local bus at 09.45 from Olden but you cannot book seats. The Troll cars take 77 people at 11.00; 11.45;12.15; 13.00 13.45; 14.15 and more times. It takes about 15 minutes up and then a 800 metres easy walk to the glacier. The cars cost 180NOK return. So you need 90 minutes approx..You can book the cars in advance but you do not know your arrival time. The cruise trips have a monopoly on the coaches but there are refs. to minivans running up to the Briksdale lodge from where the cars depart. The vans cost approx 280NOK per person last year. Look at http://www.oldedalen-skysslag.com

    Cheers Roger
