Thank you. How long did it take for your application to be approved?

Not long, less than a couple of days I think. I wonder if the 651 visa is only available to UK or othe European nationals? Rules may be different for US citizens- but certainly worth trying!

It actually states in the above link, which Apple888888 above has screenshot  that there may be a $20AU service fee which is around $11AU cheaper than Australians have to pay for an ESTA to enter the USA.

I got the evisitor visa subclass 651 through the Australian gov website, link below. That one's free, visa 601 is not.

  3. No, a tour of Parliament is not included. We booked a visit from home (advised) and it is definitely worth while. At the end there is a very interesting exhibition.

Thanks for the info! Will definitely book!!:D

  4. Hi,

We would like to book a tour of the Parliament Building during our 2 days pre-cruise stay. I'm assuming the Avalon included tour of Budapest does not include this. Can anyone confirm? And is it worth it?

    Thanks! :)

  5. The optional excursions won't show for purchase until you are 90 days from your trip (at least on the US site). If you put in your itinerary number and get your invoice. You should see a red colored link to get an Overview. Click on that. You should go to the page that shows your cruise and if you scroll down a bit you will see "Highlights, Day-by-Day, and then Excursions." Click on Excursions. It should show you what will be available. It was spot on for what was available for me to purchase.

I have registered on MyAvalon but it will not recognise my UK booking number. It must be in a different format than the US invoice numbers. I did manage to see the list of possible excursions though. Are they worth the extra money?

  6. We are booked on our first river cruise with Avalon - Danube Discovery, on Impression- in early September. I have tried to get on the "MyAvalon" part of their website to look at excursions etc- but it looks as if UK pax don't have access to it via the Avalon UK site. :( Any Brits out there who have managed it?

  7. True, I have not been on every ship every sailing every week, but the company policy is that children/young adults are allowed in the Concierge Lounge at all times, if accompanied by an adult, as noted above.

The confusion develops because the policy on the Diamond Lounge is:

6 Diamond Lounge is an exclusive benefit for only Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle Club members and cannot be extended to include friends and family. Complimentary specialty coffees are only available in the dining room on days when breakfast is being served. On ships where a Diamond Lounge is available there will be no Nightly Special Diamond Event or complimentary Specialty coffees available in the dining room. Open to guests 21 years of age and older. We respectfully request that guests observe a Smart Casual dress code when visiting the Lounge (no swim or pool attire is allowed, footwear is required at all times).

So the CL (and Suites Lounges) are always open to those under 21, while the DL is off limits to those under 21 during the cocktail hours, unless, or course, the DL concierge decides to make an exception to the rule. Most won't.

Is that right? Can D and D+ get speciality coffee at MDR breakfast? That would be great - DH never wants to go to MDR breakfast as he's in love with the Diamond Lounge coffee machine!

  8. On our last two cruises we booked the speciality restaurants in advance and then got 40% back as OBC on our ship account. Do we have to wait til we embark now to book to get the discount? We like to dine at Giovanni's table on our first night- but it now seems like you can't choose the first restaurant yourself. Is this correct?

  9. We had JS 8044 on Legend for our Panama Canal Cruise last year. The window cleaning gantry was visible just above our balcony but was not obtrusive at all. It's a lovely spot- near the centrum, but noise was not an issue at all- on party nights they closed the doors at the start of the corridor. Don't remember hearing any noise from above :)

Here's a photo of the ship. 8044 is the balcony cabin just below the gantry.

  10. I'm not sure if these are the kinds of tours u may be looking for but six people on my July cruise did

Alessandro's Off the Beaten Path tour and the Bar/Tapas tour in Venice. It is on TA. They really enjoyed both tours. The bar one was in the evening though.

We're doing the Urban Adventures Wine & Cicchetti tour on the Saturday evening 2nd July after we arrive for the 2 days prior to cruising- it looks good fun and a good way to get our bearings in the city - if we don't drink TOO much wine! ;)

  11. We are looking for a family friendly cooking class the day we are in Civitavecchia.

We are looking for something relaxing and fun to break up the days of touring. Anyone have any recommendations? Everything I have found goes into Rome, which defeats the purpose of relaxing. :)

A few years ago we did a ship's tour to a farm local to Civitavecchia which included a pasta and gnocchi making class then lunch with our own handmade pasta, lovely sauces and wine. We took our kids, they had a great time!

  12. Wife & I are booked on Royal Caribbean's 12 Night South Caribbean Holidays Cruise on board Serenade of the Seas departing Ft Lauderdale 12/23/15, returning 1/4/2016 visiting Labadee, St.Thomas, St.Kitts, Dominica, Antigua, St. Maraten and Tortola...

(I'm sure they have another in December 2016, although that schedule has not come out yet.)

    Dennis & Sue

We're also on this cruise! DH and I, and our 3 kids (not kids now, really ) Couldn't bear to leave them behind at Christmas! Hoping for sun- not endless rain as we have at the moment here in the UK...

  13. Day 8, Halifax

Today we decided to get room service so we could get an early start. It was very easy getting off the ship. We had no wait at all and they had two gangways which helped.

We rented from the Hertz car rental that was right at the port on Marginal Road. It was a 2 minute walk once you were outside. I was ecstatic it was so close. Then it happened. We got there and they had no cars there! Two families were ahead of us. That morning, Hertz only had one car at the site. We all had reservations too. In addition, there are 4000 passengers getting off the ship and some may want a car. It was very strange. We had to wait about 20 minutes before they brought our car from the Marriott in town.

Anyway, we then headed out of town. We wanted to beat all the ship excursion groups to Peggy’s Cove!!! We got there and some of the groups were already there but it did not affect the beauty of this place! We did not stay long because we had other stops to make in our final destination.

Well, I will admit it. I am a huge Haven fan, a show on Syfy and they filmed a number of scenes there! So because of it, I was determined to get to Lunenburg and of course it is also a UNESCO site (really more for Haven!)

So on our way to Lunenburg we drove along the coast and stopped at Mahone Bay which was a cute picturesque town. My DH had to of course get some donuts at Tim Horton’s on our trip as well.

We got to Lunenburg. I hated that our time was limited because it was a beautiful little city. We drove around and did stop in a few shops. This is another place I would like to come back and spend more time. We grabbed a quick lunch at The Savvy Sailor. My husband had haddock chowder and salt cod cakes and I ate whole bowl of fresh steamed mussels with garlic and white wine! The restaurant is right on the water. I highly recommend it if you make the trip!

On the way back, we drove through Chester. It was okay but I would not recommend stopping given the limited time.

    It was another great day!

We are big Haven fans too. Did you manage to find any of the locations in Lunenburg and Chester? We are there on a taxi tour in October. :D

  14. I've been trying to purchase drinks packages for my upcoming cruise.

I have tried my Credit Cards and my debit card (all well funded!) but I keep getting a payment error.

Has anyone else had that problem?

Is there a certain way details have to be entered?

I have been very careful and double-checked the numbers, spellings etc and can't see what I'm doing wrong - unless of course it's just another problem with their IT.

I thought I would check here before spending money calling RCI (there is no free Phone number for the UK)

Try 0800 0182020- I got through to RCI via this number- won't know if it was definitely free 'til I get the next bill! ;)

  15. It looks from your profile that you're from the UK. Tablets containing meclizine (US- Bonine/ Dramamine) are no longer available over the counter in the UK- I tried recently! If you have time, they are cheap to buy from a pharmacy or supermarket in the US- I got some before our recent cruise. Never had to take them, but better to have some with you. The patches are great- my husband uses them, but they do give him a very dry mouth and he sleeps a lot for the first 24 hours!!
