  1. HAL menus are the same for all cruises of the same length and season. That means that all 7-day cruise menus for the Caribbean are the same but minor tweaks are possible if a provision is not received. The Caribbean season starts in October so your MDR and Lido Market menus will not be available until then.

Here is a sample of the menus from last year in the Caribbean:

Was wondering if you may know where I may find menus for the Canada New England Discovery cruise? Was wondering if Lobster would be served in the Lido or if we need to go to main Dining for that . I haven't had any luck at finding them .

  2. Travelers,

When I cruised on the Amsterdam in 2004 I was dining in the Lido for lunch one day. I got up to get something more to drink and when I came back to my table it was cleared and everything was gone. ( I wasn't gone but a minute ):')....Anyway what do some of you do if you are dining alone in the Lido and need to leave you table for any reason ? I have carried my HAL bag and put it on the table but do not always carry it so I am wondering what do others do to let the waitstaff know that you are not finished and are coming right back to the table if you happen to be dining alone.

This is what has worked for me :

I will tilt my chair forward resting on the table and put my napkin over the chair back . Hope it also will works for you .

  3. We cruised there last week and after asking a store owner there about her pick for a good lunch she named "Side Street Café". Had the chowder, lobster roll, and a great cheeseburger to break with tradition! All good. Got there at opening 11:00am and avoided the crowd.

Do you use Canadian Money or American Money ? Do they do the conversion or do we ? would it be best to get Canadian Money before leaving on the Cruise . Can ya help me out on this ? For in the Canadian Ports that is .

  4. A solid steel wall across the deck. The farthest window is 300. I doubt that you'll be able to see water even by looking hard left.

You will need to scroll about halfway down the page to see HH377. Not a great view but I think a little better than 300,

Thank you so much for posting this info .

I have the same question about our room . We have room HH 377 aft area , any thoughts on the obstruction there . Were hoping for some sliver of a view .

  6. With the newer dress code, nobody has to dress up on Gala, or any other, night.

It is still described as dressy, but the code doesn't call for that.

However, you are right that the Lido is a casual alternative for those who don't want to dress to the smart casual level.

A question about Gala Night . Was wondering if " Gala Night " is the same as "Formal Night " or are they two different events ? Thanks in advance .

  7. That's been the format for a couple of years now. Each cruise is listed ONCE (there may be 2 listings for a collectors for the single and combined cruise) and then all of the people on that cruise are listed under it but the cruise details do not get listed for each person. It makes the list cleaner.

OH Sorry , I caused so much confussion . I thought you thought I was " next one " .

  8. Here's your post from the old thread:

I'm having trouble seeing what's wrong also. Jacqui, don't worry about this. I've already set up my skeleton list so I can make any needed changes.

Perhaps Razorback Cruiser was thrown off by the July 2 entry preceding it where BowieMeMe is leaving home June 21 for a July 2 cruise. Actually, should BowieMeMe's entry be right after Razorback Cruiser's June 20 cruise?

    Roy

Yes this is our sailing ." Next one " is also sailing on this cruise . It looks to me as though you put in their info and then as you started to do mine , on mine you only put in my user name , but no info . as for the future cruise . I think I am now starting to get confussed . HA HA !! Sorry

  9. My partner and I will be going on our first-ever cruise to Pacific Islands for 14 nights on ms Oosterdam departing Sydney 30 March.

We’ve read a lot about the 'O' and how it desperately needs a makeover. We’re not fussed about worn carpets and the like through normal wear and care. But is the service, food, entertainment and amenities up to scratch? We’ve read so many polarising views, some excellent and others, never to sail with HA again.

Our cabin VA8xxx is at the back on Navigation Deck 8, under the SeaView Pool decking. People who have previously occupied cabins in the same vicinity say they didn’t hear a thing but others wanted cabin transfers. Will being at the back be more likely in get seasick through the greater motion? Would like to hear from people who have stayed in similar cabins on this ship or other HA ships.

We cant work out the electricity situation. We know its both 110 & 240V but are there separate powerpoints for each? And how many are in the cabin itself apart from the bathroom. And if they are separate, will US-Aus adapters be required for the 240v?

    Thanks

I just got off the ship last Sunday . Please don't worry . Every thing was in fine shape .You'll have a fantastic trip .Go and enjoy it .

  10. I tried a search, but could not find a previous question on this. I'm considering an excursion (on Celebrity) that is the Oolala day cruise to Savala Island. It seems a bit long to me, over 6 hrs. What's intrigued me is the last sentence which states, "The out board motor boat will be ferrying guests to and from the island."

What I'm wondering is does this mean you can go to Oolaloa, do your snorkeling or whatever you want and then take the boat back to Savala and shop or walk around until it's time to go back to the cruise ship? Has anyone done this in order to answer?

    Thank you in advance.

    Felicia

I just returned this week from my Holland America Cruise . I took the Oolala Savala Island Day Cruise while in Lautoka , Fiji . We boarded a 60 foot motor vessel ( very nice ) and headed to a uninhabited 1 1/2 acre island .Once there we anchored and we had the option to snorkel in or ride the glass bottom boat in .I believe we were there for 6 hours or so .You will stay untill it is time to come back . I think it was about a 45 min . trip there and then back .If you google Oolala you will see the Island . Hope this helps .

  11. Our first cruise on the Oosterdam we had a VF triple room, still had the mirror behind the bed and the third person had a convertible sofa bed. In the quad rooms it is the same configuration but the mirror is replaced by a pull down bed over the main bed. The pull out sofa did not look comfortable but I must admit I did not try it. It was not the most comfortable to sit on.

Elise, do you remember if in the triple the sofa was a love seat size or the larger sofa size ?

  12. You just need the ETA for Australia. Essentially an electronic visa.

Other than that what you will notice is that both countries are very strict about not taking any food off the ship. So, in some ports you will just get off or in other ports they will have personnel on the ship by the exit area. In both cases they will likely ask you if you have any food items with you and in some of these cases there will be dogs present who can sniff the food. It's no big deal and the process goes well.

    Keith

I was wondering if you can take bottled water off the ship that has had the seal broken .Can bottled water be taken off at all ?

  13. The laundry package is per cabin and the person to whom's account it is charged will get the 'Mariner Day spending credit'.

I would suggest the two of you make an agreement and share the cost and both share use of the package. The one who will get the spending credit could purchase wine perhaps or soft drinks or something to balance out so you both get approximately equal Mariner days. Maybe there is something in the gift shop one of you wants and the other could purchase it to make the spending about equal.

Thanks Sail . I was afraid we may not get to share it because of our seperate accounts . We had planned on splitting the cost . We had no thoughts to the points . Now we will see what we may come up with on that accord .I'm sure it won't be hard to figure out .

  14. If the room mates have separate accounts (meaning separate charge cards), they will each have to earn their own $300 to get a point.

So I am guessing one of us will purchase the package and we can both partake or will we each have to purchase the package ? I thought the package was per cabin , but we will have two seperate accounts .I am confussed on this mater , any thoughts .

  15. Any purchases for excursions or dinner reservations etc you make in advance of boarding all count toward your total spending. If you receive a gift through HAL from your TA or anyone, the value of that gift is added to your spending amount.

I will also be traveling with a roommate. We plan to purchase the unlimited laundry package as we are doing 28 days on the Oosderdam. I'm not sure how that will work . I think that the laundry package is per cabin and not per person. Am I correct on that ? Will only one of us get credit for that purchase or will it be divided ?Just wondering .Has anyone had any experience with this ?
