  1. So the Seattle office will forward mail to ANY crew member employed by HAL? Is there a specific way to address the envelope? I would imagine the crew member's name and ship name; anything else?

Over the years I have sent mail to my friend, always through HAL main office. I address it to him and include his title, the department, and the ship. Sometimes it took awhile to catch up with him, especially if the ship was in Europe, Asia, etc.

With today's technology we usually communicate by Facebook messenger.

  2. Occasionally I send mail to a crew member who is a special friend. I am in Arizona, he is on the Nieuw Amsterdam which is presently sailing out of Vancouver for the season.

I recently sent mail to him through the Seattle office as I always have. He hasn't received it in three weeks (just to Vancouver) and I want to send another so I called HAL Seattle to doublecheck on the address I used since they have moved into a new location.

I will not relate here what I went through to get the correct information - typical HAL - but eventually I received it

The new address for all future correspondence with HAL is

    450 Third Avenue West

    Seattle, WA 98119.

I hope this makes sense so you can update your records.

  3. Thank you for your help. I have never encountered this situation before. I received a call from my TA this morning and she had called HAL and had the two bookings linked. They said they would try and get me near the cabin I will be in during the first sailing.

At the end of the first sailing I will achieve four-star status. My TA also informed HAL of this so hopefully I will receive the benefits during the second cruise. I was told to check with the Front Desk to confirm this.

A month today and we will be sailing out of Copenhagen!

  4. I will be sailing on the June 13 Baltic cruise with a friend. We requested a specific cabin so should be okay.

Last week I saw that the Eurodam was not repeating the Baltic at the end of our cruise but doing the Fjords and Highland itinerary. My friend will be going home at the end of the Baltic cruise so I booked the Fjords cruise as a solo.

My question. I booked a VH guarantee. Since I will be aboard ship on the first cruise, how will I find out my stateroom assignment for the second? I assume I can go to the front desk at the end of the first voyage. However, if my TA receives an offer of an upgrade, how would she contact me? I doubt she would make an overseas phone call to the ship.

  5. We recently went to a talk on probiotics. I notice that it hasn't been mentioned in the prior posts. Made me a believer.

We were told to start taking them four days prior to leaving, take them during the entire cruise, and continue for four days after returning home. It was suggested that the powdered form, which will last for a couple years in your medicine chest, is preferable to the capsules that have to be refrigerated.

We had been earlier told by one of our hospital's respiratory therapists to take probiotics when taking anti-biotics.

Something for you to look into and consider. We will be taking them for our sailing on the "O" in September.
