Within the thermal suite there's two steam rooms, an infrared sauna salt room, showers, heated tile loungers, a small whirlpool, and regular chairs (water fountains too). The setup is exactly the same as the Mardi Gras. There's a traditional sauna that's co-ed and available to everyone, even without a thermal suite pass, since it's located just beyond the locker rooms and not INSIDE the thermal suite. FYI, the locker rooms are available for all passengers to use, regardless if you have a thermal suite pass or not. The design of the Fitness Center and Spa on Excel Class ships have them separated and the locker rooms are even further removed from the gym so it's not immediately apparent that they are available to everyone.

Do the locker rooms by the sauna have showers?

  2. We're cruising out of Miami next month and not having any luck finding water shoes right now in MN.  We're staying at the Comfort Inn Downtown/Brickell hotel. Does anyone know where we can find some reasonably priced mens water shoes in that area?  Does CVS around there carry them???  TIA!

We are going to be in 2415, which is 5 rooms down the other way.  I read lots of reviews before booking because I was concerned about being under the gallery. Most did not have noise complaints, but some did.  Hard to tell if the difference is the exact location of the cabin, how light/ heavy sleepers people are, or how careful the noise the crew is being.

We booked it because we had never had a suite, never had a cove balcony, never cruised on a lower deck, and it was cheaper than 2 standard cabins. The suite is big enough for all of us, but a standard cabin would not be.

Five rooms towards the aft, where your friends were, sought of puts them under the wall between the dining room and galley.

I totally agree, so many factors that could affect one person's experience vs another.  I definitely am a light sleeper.  The noises didn't wake my kids or husband.  A cove balcony is also a different experience than a regular balcony as you're so much closer to the water.  I'm hoping you have a fabulous experience!

  4. We stayed in a cove balcony, 2429 I believe, which is right across from the Family Harbor Lounge, on the sister ship Vista.  Pros: My kids loved playing video games in the lounge & the ease of a quick breakfast & snacks was great.  Cons:  Being so low we took the elevators way more than we usually do & felt the room was far away from the action.  The worst part though was that I believe the room is under the kitchen galley.  I'm a light sleeper & this was the worst room for hearing noise...banging & thuds all night long.  I'll never choose this room again for that reason.  That being said, our friends had an oceanview room for 5 a few rooms to the aft & didn't hear a thing.

  5. I use the Cheers package as an opportunity to try new drinks.  If I don't like something I simply don't drink it & don't feel bad about it.  Sounds like you could take advantage of the same situation.  Mixing your own drinks isn't as easy/relaxing as ordering from a bar.  I also like knowing exactly how much I'm spending...Cheers allows my mind to stay calmer & that helps make vacation more relaxing.

I’m in Green Bay.  There definitely was a time when it sucked to go to the DMV but their number system now seems to get people in and out fairly quickly.

I think WI has done away with a road test to get your license.  That definitely would free up some DMV workers to help others.

  7. My husband and I have been on about a dozen cruises, 1/2 with Royal and 1/2 with Carnival.  We love them both.  Royal wins on dining room food and slightly better service.  We've taken my kids on only Carnival - mainly because of itineraries on the dates we're tied to and the casual food options.  5 days on the Paradise was enough because it was a smaller ship with less to do.  7 days on the Vista was great and we're looking forward to 7 days on the Vista.  The Family Harbor Lounge on the Vista was a huge hit when my boys were 7 & 10.  They'd get ready for dinner, we'd send them to the lounge, right next door, then my DH & I would get ready.  We had a Cove Balcony room that was plenty big & decorated very family friendly.  The only thing I didn't like was that I heard noise from above our room (I'm a very light sleeper though).   I also agree with the comments that Royal and Carnival have a lot of similar guests and it really depends on the length of the cruise.  The quietest cruise DH & I have ever been on was a 9 day Panama Canal Cruise on Carnival.  I'm sounding like a broken record here, but do the longer cruise, less time at Universal.  We went to Universal last year. (boys 14 & 11)  We bought tickets for 2 days, and got 3 days free.  2 days was enough to see everything.  We went back for a third 1/2 day, but then the kids had had enough.  Riding the same ride over & over just isn't as exciting.  Plus it will cost more & not be as easy as being on a cruise ship.  Good luck with whatever choice you decide!

  8. So after thinking about this there are a few answers. If the tumbler has the wine you brought onboard, then no issue. I am not sure about carnival, but on royal you can purchase alcohol before your cruise for in your room (not from the onboard store) then that would also be fine. After trying the mix your own drink…. Done that and I was not for us.  I never wanted to leave the pool deck just to make a drink. We just save up for the drink package now, I am on vacation, I don’t want to be bar tender also!

  9. Maybe for flying?  I know that you need either a passport or the enhanced DL to fly domestic in the US.  I just know that because we have to fly for our cruises.  Never have had a problem before we got our passports. Wife had the DL, birth cert AND marriage cert for the cruise. I had DL and birth cert and had no issues.

  10. We book balcony when we have the kids, it was nice to sit outside when they needed a break. We normally are never in the room and now that the kids are older (teenage) it would not bother us to pick inside again.  We will do inside to save money also, we just sleep and shower in there anyway.  The other time we get balcony's are if we are with some friends, then the ladies can sit on the balcony if they wanted to.  When it comes down to it, if you just use the  room for sleep and getting dressed, then I say save the money and go inside.  If you are one to enjoy a cup of coffee and do not want to get moving in the morning OR you just don't like being around people that much....get the balcony.

  11. Hello all, we are booked for a cruise in Feb 23.  I am wondering what the best way to check for price drops are?  I booked by calling Carnival direct as that is my preferred method.  I know that I can "book" another cruise to see if the price when up or down but I am looking for other ways to do this as we have never really checked into lower prices because we alway book so far out... most times well over a year, so we kinda forget about the cruise until a few weeks before the final payment is due.  Thanks
