  1. Just an update for those that were following this thread. Supposed to been leaving Saturday for a b2b2b. Had cabin 6483 bowling alley cabin and for whoever snatched it up right away have fun and enjoy.

Our trip became a no go as she needed a second procedure.

When I called to cancel and get back what I could rep told to send the medical documents to review@carnival which I did. Received email saying to give them 7-10 days to go over documents and would get back to me whether any future cruise credit could be issued, not holding my breath on that.

Didn't let us get us down immediately booked b2b on miracle, unfortunately did not get same cabin for both cruises but are very close to each other 7258 bowling alley balcony on first leg and 6279 premium balcony on second leg.

For all those those on the Splendor 11/27, 12/4 or 12/10 enjoy and have a drink for us

You will love those two cabins, but I am partial to 6279...Large balcony, and a "Square" cabin ! and you will be on 2 different sides of the ship. Miracle is also my favourite ship (6x), and we have had 6279 2x.

Enjoy your re-scheduled trips, and please wish your wife a very speedy recovery.

  2. Yes he does have a color copy of his license which he received from his employer, he also has the dmv license paper printout, and his birth certificate.

Not to circumvent the correct process/procedure, but a suggestion...a letter from his employer stating his full name and address, along with the dates of his approved vacation couldn't hurt. Also, having passport-type photos taken and then having a Notary confirm the identity based on the documents he does have (confirms photocopy of DL), and providing documentation with their seal may assist him when dealing with Homeland Security.

    Good Luck !

  3. Ok so I never have booked an early saver even though I have cruised carnival several times. We are thinking about booking the vista for June 2017. I am thinking about either the family harbor or an interior. Typically do all rates go down in categories to where we might see the fare go down this timeIf year? Also are we better off booking the 4a because it's not one of the newer categories so it would be more likely to see a price drop?

    Thanks

Given the time you have until the sailing date, book at the Past Guest rate for the cabin you want, and then watch the pricing. If you start to see increases, but the Early Saver rate is still lower than the PG rate you booked at, then lock into ES at that time. You are entitled to the 'best price' right up to final payment without being ES, and with ES, right up until 2 days before sailing.

  4. We have been back from our 11 day cruise on the Dream for just about a week. Carnival was a new try for us as we usually sail RC or Celebrity. Overall we had a great time! But, I am still thinking about the last day on board, we pulled into St. Maarten, attempted to dock for a bit- and ultimately pulled back out and it was announced that the swales were too large to allow for a safe docking. (There were two small ships in front of us on either side of the dock, so we were in second place.) Two large ships were docked on either side of the other dock. We would instead be at sea- which of course if not a hardship, exactly. Basically, it seemed we drew the short stick and got a crappy location on the dock and we couldn't tie off because we were sticking out too far beyond the dock. Later, as we enjoyed the poolside fun and drinks- a fellow cruiser told us she and her fellow cruisers received notes the previous night that their Carnival excursions would be canceled for the St. Maarten stop, due to bad weather. Hmmmm- now this is rather strange, I am thinking. Canceling the night before for bad weather for an ATV excursion? We later confirmed ALL Carnival excursions were canceled the night before- not just the ATV excursion! The weather was gorgeous- sunshine and barely a wind.

Now we have been to St. Maarten several times, so we were fine with a sea day. Many cruisers were very angry- as this could be considered the best port of call. One cruiser said that Carnival was on the cheap and did not pay the required dollars for a front spot- a risk which would pay off if the waters were calm, but not with the slightest of swales. Could this be true? If this is true, then I have a problem handing over my hard earned dollars to a cruise line that would gamble a port call in this way.

Makes a bit of sense when you combine it with canceling the excursions the night before, I am sure Carnival has to pay big bucks if they don't bring all the cruisers to the excursion without proper notice.

Anyway, this has left a bad taste that has lingered since returning home. We are booking our next cruise for April- and am thinking not another Carnival- just curious if anyone has any insight into this situation?

We have friends who were on a Celebrity cruise about a week ago, and they too were denied docking at St. Maarten because of swells.

As for the excursions being cancelled the night before, I'm sure the Captain was well aware of the sea conditions he was sailing into, and the likelihood that docking would be a challenge. While the weather may seem perfect for us the cruisers with blue skies and sunshine, it is not always perfect weather to be sailing/docking in.

While I would not be pleased to miss a port, I certainly understand that it is a judgement call that the captain makes for the safety of his ship, crew, and passengers. I would never think to second guess a captain's decision (whether Carnival, Celebrity, Princess, or any other cruise line)...they are put in charge to make those types of calls for the safety of all.

  5. We are going on a B2B cruise in Feb. We have 2 different cabins on the same floor and close to each other. Do we need to set our luggage out the night before? Any B2B hints would be greatly appreciated.

Let your Steward know near the end of the cruise, and remind him/her the morning of disembark that you will be moving just down the hall, and provide the cabin number. Ask if you can leave your packed suitcases in your first leg cabin until you need to move to the new one, or ask if they have a better suggestion.

What a shame you have to change cabins :( it's so much easier not to.

  6. Love the Miracle !

We have sailed her 6x = 63 days onboard, and love the layout, crew etc. The decor didn't bother us. There are lots of areas around the ship for quiet contemplation, people watching, sun bathing, and with 3 pools there's lots of water fun.

We haven't sailed on her since March/April, 2014 (Hawaii Cruise), and I understand that there have been some upgrades since then. We do enjoy the Spirit Class (Miracle, Pride, Spirit & Legend), and have a 14 day Journey's cruise booked for this March aboard the Pride.

Make sure you check out Gatsby's Garden (Deck 3 forward), a great place to sit and read, or sit in one of the port hole windows to watch the sea go by. Also check out Nick & Nora's Steakhouse...well worth the extra $.

Enjoy, and have a great cruise

  7. Hello Everyone: Some reviews state that the French Doors in a 4K cabin have been nailed and cannot be opened and some state that their doors did indeed open. Can someone please verify this one way or the other?

    Thank you so much.

Was specific cabin number(s) mentioned ? We will be on the Pride in March...hopefully this is not the case. My experiences on the Miracle in 4K's have all been positive, and all doors worked (4140 & 4146).

  8. My anger is misdirected when I made a one time payment of $104.65 and Carnival decides to hold onto my visa debit card information and attach it the folio without my permission? I didn't authorize them to touch the card... What don't you get? Then they proceed to charge the visa debit card $604 and $659... And then when they charge that amount they don't release the holds of another $1300 which are in various amounts? Give me a freaky no brake! Carnivals cations are unforgivable and fraudulent

If you had the AMEX card as the designed card to be applied against charges incurred on the ship, and Carnival ran into an issue (hence why you had $104.65 due and you were unable to charge your coffee). Obviously they were seeking an alternate payment method because your AMEX card had been declined.

Did you ask why the $104.65 hadn't been charged to the AMEX card ?? No, instead you proceeded to provide them with an alternate method of payment, and they continued to use that for any additional charges for the remainder of the cruise because your AMEX card was useless.

Should Carnival have offered you the information regarding the AMEX card ? probably, but if you didn't ask and just whipped out another card, then they must have assumed you knew why (over limit, etc). As long as your S&S is being paid, Carnival frankly doesn't care, as long as it is paid.

As for having a lousy cruise...your cruise is what you make of it, and if you went into it with a bad attitude, then it wasn't going to get any better !

I too have waited for a ship (Miracle) in LB, and most of their areas are exterior of a building...however, stating that because you were in an OV on Deck 1 is the reason why you were treated as "less desireable" is ridiculous. You may have status with other lines, but as a new cruiser to Carnival, you were not entitled to Priority boarding; you would board with everyone else except Diamond, Platinum and FTTF guests, who are entitled to Priority boarding.

As you can see in my signature, I have sailed on the Miracle 6 times (63 days onboard), and would book her in a heartbeat if she wasn't on the West Coast. Most of your comments regarding decor, food, etc I find almost laughable. Our waiter(s), if asked, would have replaced anything we found to be unpalatable in a heartbeat, and would have gone above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied with anything else we ordered for the remainder of the trip. As for the Comedians, you are at the mercy of the Entertainment Dept. that books them. Some people find a comedian funny, others may not...it's what makes us human...not everyone likes everything.

Enjoy cruising the line(s) of your choice.

  9. Carnival started our addition to cruising in 2008.

We will continue to cruise Carnival for the Fun we have on board to the cost we pay for the cruise (compared to other lines). Others try to persuade me to try a different line, but I am happy with the product we get and the bang for our buck. However, with the Canadian dollar tanking and the exchange rate at 41% (as of today), it is becoming difficulty to justify a holiday in the US. We may look to Europe for our next vacation.

  10. We are planning a cruise to Alaska for our 20th wedding anniversary in 2017. I have been given permission to go all out! We have cruised before but best room has only been ocean view stateroom. I am debating between a premium balcony or a vista suite on the carnival legend. Can anyone advise please? If we do the vista suite (back of boat, extra large balcony) will we still see wildlife or should we book along side of ship? We usually book in middle of ship to avoid too much movement due to sea sickness, would back of boat have a lot more movement? Any help would be great. Should I skip the suite and just do balcony to save money for excursions? HELP PLEASE!

The best Vista Suites are 4228 or 4237. They are aft wraps, and have an over-hang that will protect you from the elements if necessary. You will however, feel movement more there. The alternate would be a premium balcony such as 6279 (my favourite), 7301 or 8237... lots of room, and an extra long and wide balcony. These 3 are classed as Aft, but are more like a mid-ship cabin :) I have had 6279 twice, and love the location (right at the aft elevators)...you will not hear any noise from the elevators themselves, and very little from passengers. You are 4 floors up from the Main Dining Room and 3 floors down from Lido (comes up right outside the buffet area).

Have a fantastic cruise no matter which cabin you choose, and Congrat's on 20 years !!

  11. Thank you, everyone, so much for the helpful replies! I just sent my PVP a quick email, and he said that it was no problem to go ahead and book and then add the baby's info later? I would hope he knows what he's talking about.

Regarding the adult in each cabin, I was under the impression that was the rule (one adult in each room with a child)! If it isn't, then am I right to assume that the only advantage of doing it that way would be so we don't both have to buy Cheers? Any perks of having my husband and I together and the kids together otherwise?

Yes, you can book 'baby' ahead of time, or you can book 1 adult in each room, and your other child with either of you...the capacity for each room would be 2.

The advantage to booking an adult in each is:

    1. Cheers Package pricing (one drinks, the other does not).

    2. Past Guest pricing (unless your other child is also a past guest).

Hopefully your PVP will book you into the cabins and fare category that will assist you the most :)

Best wishes on a smooth delivery and healthy baby ! Come back and let us know who he or she is :D

  12. We refused a $20 "upgrade" because it was from a 4k to an OV. No, thanks!

Totally agree...why would they even consider an OV as an upgrade from a 4K !

Love the 4K's, as you can see in my signature, we have spent many days in them, and have another 14 booked next March on the Pride.

  13. I have posted this in the Ask a question board also...

As you can see I am from the UK and have been booked on the Vista for a while. However I have recently learnt that NOLA flight prices have dropped and if my magic our desirable Vista cabin is now available for an August Dream sailing. Husband particularly has wanted to go to NOLA as have I and we are both quite keen to go to other Carribean places (only been to Cayman on our PC cruise). I know for many on this board a Med cruise seems exotic but for us this side a Carribean cruise is exotic also so I guess I am asking if its worth getting over my fear of flying again to spend 5 days in our Dream US city and cruise or to stay safe and take a train to the Med and sail Carnival's fab new ship. I actually asked this on my FB roll call too and they were helpful.

Carnival Dream 7 day cruise to Belize,Roatan and Cozumel and 5/6 days in NOLA

    Positives

    - More exotic and visiting countries we have not been to

    - Belize (Our desired Carribean port due to history etc)

-NOLA is our numero uno US city to visit (Food,Alcohol,Music and History)

    - Still cruising on a large ship (That had a tandoor yippee)

    - Our flights give us a long layover in NJ so we can do some city stuff there or in New York

    - We would be cruising on our Wedding anniversary (we always seem to be doing that with Carnival)

    - Husband gets a land holiday and I get a cruise

    Negatives

-Flying on 4 planes there and back which is terrifying for me. I know I have done it before but as soon as I book flights I go into panic mode

-We will lose our £300 ($450) Vista deposit I think (not sure if you can change)

    - Older ship with No Guys or Mexican place

    - Less days at sea and many sea days

    - £500 ($750)more expensive due to staying in NOLA

-Possiblity of ports being cancelled as its Hurricane season

    - Out of our comfort zone as we are so used to Europe (TBH this is also a positive)

Carnival Vista 12 day cruise with 3 days in Barcelona

    Positives

-We keep the £300 we have already paid

-No flying as we go by train

    - Brand new ship with Skyride and Guys/Mexican place

    -More days at sea

-Get to go to Croatia (one of the few places we havent been to yet)

    - Cheaper by £500 due to no flights

    - Husband gets to see his Italian volcano (Celebrity cancelled out tour last year)

    Negatives

    - We have been to almost all the countries before

    - We have been to 4 of the ports before due to our Celebrity cruise last year

    - Too much in our usual holiday vein (this could be seen as a positive)

    - I takes us to Italy for the 5th time

    - Possibility of Croatia being cancelled (thus no new countries seen)

    - It would end the Vista build up I have heavily been involved with

    - less time on land for hubby although we have been to Barcelona before.

Velvetwater...have you considered doing a Transatlantic on the Vista, then a short flight (or train ride) to NOLA and doing that cruise...would solve all your dilemmas :D

  14. Looking at booking a 7 day for next year. Does anyone know of a link or from personal experience of the best view room?

We have been on Miracle 6x, and 3 of those in a 4K (love our view from 4140).

The between the lifeboat cabins are:

    4114/4115, 4122/4123, 4132/4133, 4140/4141, 4148/4149, 4196/4197.

We usually have 4140, but for our upcoming Pride (sister ship) voyage of 14 days, we have 4148 booked (someone else booked OUR cabin LOL).

The 4K's are a great alternative to a cave-like interior cabin (which I will never do again). Best value cabin going !

  15. After your final payment, price drops are given to you as On Board Credit. You pay for everything on board with your room key and the refunds go on your account as credits.

There is no limit to the number of priced drops you can get unless changing to an advertised rate requires you to change from Early Saver to the new rate package (rare) then you no longer get the Early Saver price drops. Sometimes taking a root upgrade instead of credit can also move you out of the Early Saver rate.

Just a note to the above...

once booked Early Saver, always Early Saver. You cannot move from this fare type (price matching can be done to any rate EXCEPT Pack & Go and 'Guaranteed' Cabins).

Also, with Early Saver you can upgrade your cabin (i.e. go from an inside to a balcony), but cannot downgrade (i.e. go from a suite to a balcony). You can however move within the same category (i.e. 1A to 1A or 7K to 7K etc) if a cabin comes up that you would prefer over the one you have booked.

  16. Thanks for your replies! Sorry I guess asking if it is worth it isn't he best way to phrase it. I just wanted to know if you personally thought the food and service was $35 better per person and worth missing a night in the MDR to experience it or if you rather use that money on something else. Sorry I don't know how to word it better than that and I hope it makes sense. Thanks again for your answers. I know something being "worth" it means something different to everyone

We have dined at Nick & Nora's. Usually we do not book ahead, and since our last few cruises have been 15 or 16 days, we check out the MDR menu's each day and determine if it's a 'good day' to miss the MDR. We have enjoyed our experiences at the Steakhouse, and would certainly do it again.

Someone else mentioned the portions, and I do agree, they are very large. Usually I do a surf and turf so that each portion is smaller than say having just a steak, or just the lobster/shrimp.

Enjoy, Miracle is our favourite ship ! Love the Spirit Class layout.

  17. I know you go to see the scenery. I know the seats in the Lido for viewing are taken early.

    What would YOU do?

    I would probably book a 7C

we have had them on the Legend before and like them.

Very quiet on the Upper Deck.

what ABOUT the cabins on Deck Four With French Doors?

Thank you for any information and /or advice.

Love the 4K's (Interior with French Doors) on Deck 4 Main (we have 39 days in 4K's on the Miracle). However, while you do have the doors to open, and some cabins have a view between the lifeboats, if you are going for the scenery and want a balcony to view it, you should choose one of those. Balcony cabins without an obstructed view would probably work best (avoid deck 5 above the lifeboats as you can see "out" just fine, but cannot see "down").

  18. He actually wouldn't have navigate elevators because we'd either be one deck below or above the lido. This will be the first year he can check himself out of the youth activities. Since I know he'll rather be at the pool once he makes friends, I'd like to have a room near the lido so he doesn't have to go to far.

I spoke with a representative that said I would still have to pay the upgrade fee but that doesn't make any since when I paid $2300 for a cove and a Vista is $2002.

There should be no cost to upgrade...and once Early Saver, always Early Saver. Just remember that you cannot downgrade to a lower category, but CAN upgrade.

Call back and tell them you want to change (not upgrade) cabins. and see what pricing they give you. Act surprised when they tell you the lower amount, and then say "then that should give me $$$ in OBC right?...have all your facts and figures in front of you (do a mock booking and see if the taxes have increased since you booked/paid), and if they don't give you what you think you are entitled to, ask for a Supervisor.

    Good Luck...keep us posted.

  19. Has anyone stayed in cabin 4232 or 4297 on the Pride? Wondering about view and if 4232 is considered more forward than midship. I am booked in that room for my future cruise, but 4297 is available to move to if I need to switch rooms. I have a problem with motion sickness and will change rooms even if view is not as good.

    Thanks for any insight!

You have indicated 2 cabins which are not 4K's (and 4297 is not on the deck plans). I am assuming that you mean 4132 and 4197 ? If so, 4132 is pretty mid-ship (we have stayed in 4140 on the Miracle 3x + have 4148 booked for next year on the Pride)...we have never felt a lot of motion in that area of the ship, even crossing the Pacific to Hawaii. 4197 is quite Aft, and yes motion can be felt more so there than 4132/4140 area (have been in 6279 2x which is only 4 cabins more aft and 2 decks higher, and we could feel motion there).

You shouldn't have an issue with 4132, however the probability of rough seas always depends on the time of your sailing (hurricane season etc).

So, personally I would not change from 4132.

  20. I have read many places that people prop open the door for fresh air. They suggested moving the bed a little and propping it open with that, using a heavy duty doorstop, or using the back cushion of the couch.

You will find that the 'dominate' door (the one that opens first) can remain open unaided. If you open it first to the maximum, then have someone else open the second door and prop it open with whatever (we used a shoe), you can then let go of the first door and it should stay.

The above worked for us in 4140 on the Miracle, and we have stayed in this same cabin at least 4 times.

  21. We ended up with 4195, none of the others open for Jan 31

Keep checking back (mock booking)...some people upgrade as they get closer to, or after final payment.

4148 came up about 4 weeks after we booked, and I only found it by checking every day lol.
